but who cares about that tho? i don’t get why some people bring that twitter negativity over here. it’s enough for the right people to get the message and see the bigger picture in lana’s lyricism, not everybody is going to understand it :brows3:

I wasn't being serious :toofunny:

There we were

Screaming Black Lives Matter

In the crowd by the open river

& I saw you saw who I am

Kind of wish I wish with my father

He could see as a long last splinter

Of the things I couldn’t want for him

Idk what she says before splinter. I think she sings “this all as a splinter” but I don’t know logic when it comes to this

What’s this devotion? You really seem like a good man
Bodies or oceans, I cling to you like your mainland

I enjoy the ocean sounds in text book a lot but whyyyy the melody of the chorus had to sound like demi lovato's song :crying2:

I don't think Lana's wrong for including it, and I understand why she did it, so I'm not throwing shade, but the BLM line in Text Book makes me cringe because it feels so awkwardly shoehorned in. It's a shame because I really like the song otherwise. Drag me etc, but I'm just being honest.

Yeah. This is what I'm feeling. She mentioned this album would respond to critics who were painting her as conservative so it feels like she put that in there to prove something, which kinda ruins the song for me.

But perhaps the BLM rallies were what ultimately came between her and Sean? There he was, with "shining stars" (makes me think of being patriotic) and "standing blue" (blue lives matter) and at the rally he really saw where she stood and that drove a wedge between them?

After all the comments about the resemblance to a Demi Lovato song, I’m happy that I’ve never heard a Demi Lovato song in my life.

I wish I was you omg

unfortunately the song in question was a hit back then and it played on the radio all the time and I had to hear it everyday because I worked at a store that had the radio on all day

yeah that absolutely killed my vibe for text book, I wish I didn't know this stupid ass demi lovato song :icant:

But hey, the verses are so Amy Winehouse. There’s still hope! ?

And redundant. Since twerking is sad by itself.

(twerking fans, don’t come for me, I’m messing around. Kind of...) :kiss2:
