I’m honestly really torn on what the critical reception for this record will be. I’m expecting for her to at least beat LFL’s score on Metacritic as signs are pointing to it being her most mature work to date, but I’m not sure past that!

She’s definitely taking risks with this record, but it’s tough to say how her creative choices will be received. Dealer is definitely going to be a toss-up with critics, but the track’s more atypical elements make perfect since in the context of the song’s meaning.

Text Book’s lyrics have—as far as I’ve seen from music reviewers—been noted positively, but the lines of the chorus have been criticized by less established listeners.

I’m anticipating criticisms of cohesion because of the interlude’s production next to all of the tracks we’ve heard, but it’s worth noting there’s a portion of the album we haven’t heard yet.

The triple singles (in my opinion) have some of her best songwriting to date, but how will critics feel about the lyrics from her earlier works? Will they even notice a difference, or will they have a bias towards them?

I honestly have no idea what to expect, but I would be shocked if she hits below 75. I’m hoping for a 90, but maybe that’s just wishful thinking on my end—a mid-80s is probably more realistic

i attempted to rearrange the tracklists of chemtrails and the songs we have from blue banisters in order to make a more cohesive story and sound. i spent hours on it and i will definitely change it once the album is officially released. currently it’s:
blue banisters  text book tulsa jesus freak dark but just a game not all who wander are lost wildflower wildfire let me love you like a woman  wild at heart yosemite chemtrails over the country club thunder afraid (if it had a rework) breaking up slowly fine china cherry blossom nectar of the gods i don’t wanna go (hypothetical rework) arcadia dealer dance till we die living legend for free white dress its a story oriented playlist so i wonder if anyone can guess what the storyline i planned out for the track list was ?

I don’t think Lana has any problem with NFR, when it got released, it seemed to be the album she was the most proud of and one of her most introspective ones at the time, with how much of her "daily life" was in it. The songwriting was different from her past works such as UV or HM because she was in a different place in her life, and had grown up and matured a lot. But I think that with the amazing reception the album got, Lana might have thought she was finally loved by the general public as a person, when in fact, what people loved was the album, not necessarily her. The general public never really liked her as a person. QFTC is what made her realise people loved her music, but still weren’t on the same boat as her. Chemtrails was her telling how she misses a life without fame and how much of a burden it can be, and also how important her family is to her when times get rough. And now with BB she’s about to tell the whole story. NFR was a statement, it’s where she was back then and where she probably still is in terms of her everyday life, but with Chemtrails and BB, we’re getting a larger picture of her past too, and the damage that the public not liking her as a person has brought.

Something else that I think is gonna be prominent, and already is, in this album is gonna be the fact that NFR was her most critically acclaimed album yet (even if not directly). It's my favorite Lana album right now, but she basically said that it was somewhat pandering to the general public and that she knew people would like it. The fact that it was one of her safest albums lyrically and did amazing in terms of reception, whereas other albums that were more bold were trashed, seems to have really frustrated her. And then you have the fallout in spring-summer 2020 after being loved by the general public. The lyric "They built my up 300 feet tall just to tear me down" in Arcadia felt so telling and emotional to me, so I think there's gonna be more lyrics like that in the album as a whole.

Sorry for the essay lol. This has been on my mind since Wednesday and I just wanted to share

I would like to formally apologize for not recognizing how nice Living Legend is. I listened to it again recently & yeah! It’s simple but a really solid song, and I think it’s perfect for the record!

EDIT: wait, is me discussing this breaking any rules? I can 100% remove it if it is—just let me know lol

As per her tweet (“last 16 months”) I guess it’s safe to say that — despite there being songs from 2013, 2014, and 2017 — she’s had this album in mind since May 2020 (so basically around QFTC). I can’t believe it’s been that long! Time has moved so quickly and we are so blessed and lucky to get this beautiful album from Lana. Every song is just mind blowing.

It was co-written by Zach Dawes so he probably co-produced it as well and judging by the looks of everything he's touched (California, Thunder, Dealer, etc) I think it's gonna be a rock infused moment.

It’s kinda fun to draw parallels with all her releases post BTD

UV/NFR - a big sonic shift from the previous album that sorta cemented her lane with UV sending her down the more dream pop/psych lane and NFR down the folk/singer songwriter lane - both of which are hugely praised as her best

HM/COCC - more introspective, refined and subdued versions of the previous record while also having their own flare - HM blending more jazz and trap influences with dream pop and COCC more Americana and pure folk music with the singer songwriter styles

LFL/BB - a bit of a mishmash of new and old ideas - both of which have her continuing to grow with LFL giving the first tastes of her more mature and introspective style of late on the closing tracks while also having a throwback to the more pop friendly style, while BB is set to have a little bit of everything: fan fav leaked songs, some of her most introspective writing yet and for sure some new sonic landscapes that she hast explored much previous

    end rant

anyways arcadia 12 hours we won
