I have to say, I'm loving this soft pastel yellow '70s vibe.

And her piano ballads are always best with a bit of reverb, IMO.

She's serving a little Kate Bush, a little Weyes, a little Have You In My Wilderness Julia Holter and I am so into it.

The song sounds dreamy. I can't say shit about her cause I love her with my entire life.

In (somewhat) chronological order, I *think* these would be mine: Ride, Black Beauty, HIADT, California, Fine China, Get Free, Change. Out of the 7 songs I listed, I think California has the most semblance to my life:

The month before NFR! was released, I decided I wanted to “propose” to my now ex-boyfriend when he returned home from a trip. The day I decided this, he cheated on me before I had the chance to ask. His mental health was rapidly deteriorating (which played into him cheating), and he then told me that he was permanently leaving the US to start his life over.

It’s a little embarrassing to think about now, but I begged him to stay, looked after his mental state for months, pick him up when he was drunk in places, etc. The record was released the next month, and hearing Lana pleading with the song’s emotionally unstable subject to come back to America was rough. He cut off almost all communication, but one day I saw a post of his on Reddit—I almost didn’t notice it but remembered we followed one another. The post was mostly about how he lost the love of his life and how terrible and unstable he was becoming. “I wanted to reach out, but I never said a thing,” later took on a different meaning, and it still freaks me out how much the song mirrored my life.

side-note: now in a much healthier, happier relationship lol

oooh yes! i took it more literally like she'd just been found wandering the beach (reminds me of The Ocean - "the ocean makes me cry" / "i'm in love with a dying man, i'm in love laying in the sand") and that's where she'd been found before being rushed to the hospital, although i like your interpretation better!

though if we were to take the literal interpretation and do some hashtag Lanalysis, maybe a lot of things link back to this day for her? she's clearly a woman predisposed to mental health issues or depression, but maybe a breaking point for her was the day that she describes in Kill Kill / The Ocean, when she finds out she's gonna lose her lover and that she's "in love with a dying man", so she's laid in the sand until - as she describes in Wildflower Wildfire - she's taken into the hospital, sand still on her feet.

Sorry, walk me through your logic here. Britney- and the entire GP at this point- is flaming her conservators, accusing them of grievous acts of abuse, gaslighting, manipulation, etc. Don't you think if her medical records actually showed deeper mental illness- thus casting doubt on her accusations- her conservators would have been the very first to publicize said records, not only to help clear their name but keep them in control of Britney and her fortune? Their adamency on keeping them private speaks volumes about the situation as a whole. I highly doubt they care enough about Britney to keep supposed "severe mental illness" a secret at the cost of their own reputations or income.

Thirteen years is a hell of a long time to recover from a psychotic break, especially given she has been on medication for years now.

The most amazing thing is that post SNL she didn't throw in the towel and stick her head in a hole. I think we all helped her through that so congratulations everyone.  Nice job !

Her ability to mythologize herself in a way unlike any other female artist alive today. Most female artists today are naturally compared to other pop artists, often those who are alive but Lana’s been able to immortalize herself alongside other great artists/pop culture legends like Amy Winehouse, Marilyn Monroe, and Kurt Cobain. To be alive and be celebrated in a way that’s usually reserved for dead artists is an impressive feat.

In Venice California there are these giant murals on the Ellison Suite Buildings which Lana has been dignified on alongside Marilyn Monroe, Jim Morrison and John Hurt. Lana is the only one of these four who is alive to witness them.

In early interviews she stated she idolized “the greats of every genre” and within a decade she became just that. She is truly the greatest alternative artist of all time.

her freedom to do whatever she wants at the caliber she's at. she's at the perfect point between artistry and success. quality work enough to make a lasting impact, without needing to burn out but still get a lot paid. any artist's dream

I have a feeling this is why she's scrapped so much of the tracklist, maybe she's had some epiphany and she's feeling just as bored with the stripped back lazy hazy vibe that took away so much of COCC replay value. She's probably genuinely interested in changing gears and experimenting... because at the end of the day I truuuuuuly don't think she'd be petty enough in dealing with critics and toxic fans to let the music suffer.. she's always been about the music. However, yeah she should speak up a little.

Had she not challenged her conservatorship, I can see them wanting to avoid making something like that public knowledge to prevent a scandal/cancellation/whatever that would threaten the money she makes for them. But that's not the case- they're losing their control over her and her millions. They're animals backed into a corner- I'm reasonably confident they would disclose any information that painted her as mentally ill no matter how scandalous or dangerous to her brand.
