Hi, hi! Feel free to move this, but I am dropping some Lana mentions from the new Rolling Stone interview w/ Jack below...

What have you learned from working with Lana Del Rey? She seems like a very different artist than some of your other collaborators.
Very different. It’s a tough one to answer because I see her and my work as just, like, in a different zone or something. I don’t even remember sometimes how a lot of those things happen because everyone has a different process of getting somewhere. And when we’re together, I feel like we just, like, fuck around, just play some stuff. But I did learn not to do anything with her that I’m not prepared to put out before we leave the studio. Because if she’s feeling it, that door’s gonna close. She’s very vibe-driven.

How did “Venice Bitch,” which is almost 10 minutes long, happen?
There was a more beat-driven three-minute version. My process with her is not super precious. It isn’t, until it is. I remember her being like, “What if you just go play drums on it?” I was like, “OK, well, I’ll play, and what if there’s a long outro?” The way I play drums is very much as a fan of music. I spend a lot of time in headphones playing along to records. So I was playing and having a really good time. And I was like, “This part’s quiet, this part’s loud, this part’s crazy, this part’s kind of like acid-y.” Lana’s fun because she’ll call a sound “beautiful,” or “disgusting.”

    On a Bleachers Track
    What song came first?
It was “Don’t Go Dark,” which was a literal account of the end of a relationship. I love that song. Lana [Del Rey] helped on that. Because I was just singing “Run, run, run, run with the wild,” and then she was like, [singing] “Do what you want.” And I was like, “Just don’t go dark on me.” It was one of those moments where you know, if someone was filming it, it would have been really special. And I was like, “Damn, that is a dynamite chorus.” So she’s a writer on that.

    On Feedback for His Work
Who else is in your feedback group?
The best records are made with a small group of people that really believe in something. My group is like me, my manager, my A&R person who doesn’t even work on my label anymore — he’s just a really close person to me. Then my family, and some artists like Lana. I always play some for Ella [Lorde]. Taylor, of course.

    On His Artistic Direction

It feels like your production both for yourself and your collaborators has gotten more organic lately.
Yeah, for sure. It’s just different phases, different things. Five years ago, I loved nothing more than cutting up samples and playing them on my MPC. That thing has been in the closet for two years now. I think one of the reasons why there’s a group of people I can do good work with is because we’re all feeling a similar thing.
When you make something, you’re at your most valuable if you want something to be out there and you’re not finding it. And what’s not out there is this sort of, like, band-on-fire kind of New Jersey sound mixed with the way I write.
I felt that way. Lana felt that way. Taylor felt that way. And the Lana record and Folklore are very different kinds of organic than this Bleachers rec-ord. But it is on a similar tip of like, “Let’s start to do the thing not everyone can do. Let’s play in a room.”

This is so true and probably one of the worst trends in pop culture. It creates this eco chamber where out of touch celebs say the same thing and pet themselves on the back for being so brave and moral. I would prefer the majority of celebs being "airheads" with only a few who genuinely care about politics than this. The ratings of the Oscars and Grammys shows how the public reacts to bullshit but they can't seem to get it. This has gone so far that celebs have become propaganda tools. How moral is a celeb who knowingly has young fans like Ariana and Billie and encourages them to vote for a democrat president and have a certain ideology? They're all for equality but don't bother to tour everywhere else that isn't the US, UK, west Europe, Japan and AUS.

As for Lana, she isn't far from them. She's trying to jump on the bandwagon but fails to catch the train. Dumping Kanye over being a republican? Kanye is batshit crazy but it's pretty disturbing if you decide that people who vote for a different party don't deserve to be friends with you. She reacted so poorly when people joked that she was a republican instead of laughing it off like in that furry livestream. She can still be a democrat but expressing it in a different way would suit her more. She doesn't seem radical at all giving by her her QFTC statement but I understand the pressure from her environment.

Lana's never going to fade into obscurity, she's already established herself as an icon. And with the way she consistently releases quality art that pushes her creativity further, she will be a legend long past her lifetime. She's one of the few artists today that will last forever, regardless of whether or not she releases mainstream hits.

guys. i did some investigation on BOZ last.fm page and he streamed 3 untitled and untagged albums. two of them have acronyms as titles of the songs and one has numbers (1 to 14). They're signed as Artist 2, 4 and 5. Since and apparently he has the album, let me show u the acronyms.

    Artist 2:
    LG
    P
    SLAH
    UBTMH
    U
    A
    SG
    BOTG
    X
    HFAGT
    LMDS
    SR
    BOTG2
    LC
    WUB
    IAW

    ARTIST 4: numbers to 14

    ARTIS 5:
    GWHSI
    POMM
    H
    DAD
    IK
    FMM
    LAW
    G
    DAP
    A
    IYFIL

as we can see, none of the acronyms is BB, TB or WW, so my guess is, if boz really has the album, it can be the untitled tracks one. Or he did know the tracks were dropping and he didn't play it as a whole for us to not understand. what do u think?

I'm SO FµCKING tired of the lazy cancel culture, ffs

but that's off topic so anyways let's keep streaming 'cause these songs are surprisingly good

surprisingly because they are so destructured lol, they don't sound like anything that could be played on the radio and yet so beautiful

Doesn't she mention Nikki Lane in full because it rhymes with the next line 'i wish that it would rain'?... I didn't want to have to overthink Lana mentioning people by name in her storytelling but here we are on page 799 i guess

I’ve never a seen a discussion thread about a singer writing too much about her life experiences with the people she surrounds herself with

she literally says she’s telling HER story, which includes her friends and family? But that makes it hollow and “reduces” the song

hsjsdbjsndnnsndnndkkxkfksoad your brain is doing jumping jacks, only on Lanaboards, fun to read tho

lana stans when lana mentions her friends in her songs and promotes smaller artists who could really use the boost

It adds a lot to the song. It adds to the imagery, it makes it easier to imagine the scene, to put ourselves in her shoes, it makes it more lively. It also makes it more emotional; Lana wants us to be able to know how she felt in that moment.
If the line had been “someone’s making birthday cake”, it wouldn’t have felt as powerful. Chuck is not just “someone”. She’s very dear to Lana, she’s one of the people she’s closest to. Same for “Jenny jumped into the pool / She was swimming with Nikki Lane”. It’s not just “My friend jumped into the pool / She was swimming with another girl”. She name drops them because they’re important people to her and they’re part of the scene. They are the people who help Lana with her mental health. So yes, technically, we don’t care about Chuck baking something, but describing a scene with such little details that may seem useless at first glance is actually an excellent songwriting technique that helps us understand how Lana heals. The smell of a cake, seeing friends having fun in the pool... these things make Lana happy. The whole song is about how she got better after experiencing something painful. Sometimes, the simplest of words have a way deeper meaning for the writer than you can imagine.

edit: sorry for the change in size, idk why it happens
