I’ll always love her music... but I think I’m temporarily revoking my stan card. Something ain’t sitting right with me.

she should post about this regardless if people think she's selling out because the point is awareness for the racism that persists in society against black people. her not sharing with her base is disappointing.

I've been thinking a lot about the LDR-FKA twigs comparison...
Back in 2014, Ultraviolence and LP1 were released. Two outstanding, brilliant, extremely emotional, intimate and sexual albums. Both were acclaimed, but we know which one got the absolute round of applause and who got trashed with sexist comments by a number of critics and co.
LP1 literally kicks off with the line "I love another, and thus I hate myself", and no one said a thing. To make things worse, twigs stated: "That’s a sentence I think will always resonate with me, probably for the rest of my life." Not as direct and headline-worthy as "I wish I was dead already", but you get the point.
Then, the masterpiece "Two Weeks" features this verse and chorus:
"I know it hurts, you know I'd quench that thirst
(I can treat you better than her) You say you're lonely, I say you'll think about it 'Cause you're the only one who resonates That chase, mouth open like high Higher than a motherfucker, dreaming of you as my lover (Mouth open, you're high) Flying like a streamer thinking of new ways to do each other (Mouth open, you're high) Pull out the incisor, give me two weeks, you won't recognize her Mouth open, you're high" "Sad Girl", anyone? "Shades of Cool"? In the beautiful, experimental ballad "Hours", we're delighted with this phrase: "Am I suited to fit All of your needs? Master of all of your needs" If Lana sang this... "I'm a sweet little love maker" and "So lonely trying to be yours", from "Pendulum" "Now I yearn to follow you in everything I do All those years in isolation helped me want for you Lead me to a place I'm free from all the wrongs I do In return I'll live my life forever lovign you", from "Closer" (not only this is submission at its best, but also she's rhyming "I do" with "you" twice in the same verse, something Lana has been criticized for) "Tell me why I act this way Tell me that I'll change someday I'll be the one that can satisfy you", from "Give Up" "So I tell myself It's cool for me to wait for you Just for you I collect my thoughts and breathe Because I take your lead", from "Kicks" Then in the next release, Melissa EP, she's singing "I'm your doll" while being abused as a blow up doll. The short film was acclaimed everywhere and even got some nominations. But Lana has a man with his fingers inside her mouth and it's a scandal; a video of Lana being raped in a Marilyn Manson video leaks and it's an anti-feminism statement. Anyway, you guys get the point. One of the reasons I have loved Lana for so long; I'm a very dominant guy, in every single way, and seeing someone being so, so open about her choice to be submissive, to be fragile, to be delicate, was amazing for me. I know quite a few guys and girls who are extremely submissive and fragile and have to pretend they're not or have to hide their kinks. Of course it makes people uncomfortable. And Lana stood for her art and her emotions. I've been following twigs for so many years now, and it's obvious she has a delicate heart like Lana. I hope she doesn't take her comment in the wrong way. Edit: With this post, I don't mean FKA twigs hasn't suffered in her career, not at all. As a black female artist, she got trashed for dating a white multimillionaire celebrity, and we can see the damage it caused her, mentally and emotionally, in Magdalene. -

Her post could've been good if she learned how to edit. Idk this whole situation has me very jaded and I find it really embarrassing that someone her age who has been high level famous for so long still pulls shit like this. She's so hyper privileged and oblivious sometimes. I guess I'm just glad I can separate the art from the artist.

because she needs a pr team and pr training and not this mess that she’s posted online a few times already, the delivery of her message was extremely clunky and i don’t understand how it’s been 84 years and she still hasn’t learned that when it comes to important messages or announcements there’s no room for messiness like this

I don't see the problem with her seeing her friends as family but whatever. We don't know the extent of her issues with her mom. Let her be.

i'm not the one to usually complain, i try to stay as neutral as possible - but of all the things she could of posted, she gave a quick little shoutout to a tornado in nashville and then advertised some skin care products. i know her heart is in a good place but it's really disappointing, especially considering she has her poetry album as an obligation, would it be that hard to take a quick video and update us? even just to say that she's not ready to release it yet. she's so out of touch. honestly getting tired of the white california affluent mommy matcha blogger aesthetic it's so corny.

I think that the whole idea of her being "un-PC" in her early days (as a certain member loves to talk about) needs to be talked about cautiously and carefully and with a lot more nuance than often given to it, but I think it plays a role in why she attracted the demographic she did in the BTD and Paradise days that has been sustained with leaks from her Lizzy era since. There's that quote from a critic about her (earlier) stuff being desperate, shirt-tugging, "don't leave me" that the critic hated, and I definitely think it's there.
She presented love as an undying devotion with elements of desperation, doom, death etc. that really didn't fit into the zeitgeist at the time because of shifting discourses. The whole femme fatale themes of film noir and to some extent, the 80s (so a lot of the films and ideas she grew up with) weren't popular at the time. I think a big part of why so much of her *active* fanbase is LGBT people and women (and of course the overlap) is because she was a contemporary female artist singing about that destructive and obsessive love while no one else really was, and making it look (and sound) glamorous and sexy. For LGBT and/or girl teens and young adults, there were relatively little artists willing to explore that side of love that you feel so strongly, because (for good reasons) a lot of discourse about love and attraction has been critical. That's probably why there's a lot (a LOT) of overlap between Lana fans and people who want to uncritically enjoy things like Lolita (particularly the Lolita "aesthetic") and CMBYN. Lana gave people spaces for people to be desperate and completely devoted with BTD and Paradise, and then followed up with UV as one of the best break-up albums. Most of the diehard BTD and UV stans don't really like HM as much, as far as I've seen, and I think part of this is because HM is a lot less dramatic in its lyrics and themes and is where change started to happen.
I'd add some more about the reclamation of things like religion (e.g. Tropico) and power (e.g. the national anthem video) but eh.
Might be misunderstanding but her detachment from the fanbase is kind of unprecedented in the stan age. The whole "Lana hates us and that's okay" thing definitely contains a grain of truth. I think she has a very understandable disdain for a lot of her fanbase, because a lot of her fanbase have very little respect for her and so she's kind of broken away and doesn't share much of her life now. She doesn't hate her fanbase imo - she clearly likes Win Edwards, who despite all the jokes is in some ways the ideal fan from her pov; clearly adores her but respects her boundaries. A lot of people here see going to every show as weird and obsessive but she's had much worse and much more dangerous than that, which is probably why she doesn't really interact with her fans much unless she's got something to sell. This inactiveness inevitably gets caught up in the "Lana hates us" narrative though.
I'd also say that her change in dress and habits put people off. She's not an Ariana or Taylor Swift in that her success drives her to want to do more and better. Her success made her wealthy and she grew out of the more dramatic narratives, maybe got some therapy and didn't need or want to peddle that type of thing anymore. She's a wealthy white woman living in California who goes to church with her friends, wants a couple of kids, dresses comfortably, (probably) wants a husband and, going by what Sean was, doesn't want that husband to be an artistic type, but more on the boring suburban dad side. AKA she's living a very normal and basic heteronormative life, just with a bunch of money. That added to the fact she never really comfortably embraced her LGBT fanbase is what is turning some people off imo, and with stan twitter culture this switch can be read into ad nauseam.

This is an excellent thread and something I think many of us wonder. I am a bisexual young woman and something I noticed, that I hope has some value in the conversation, is that I am not sexually attracted to Lana. And I have almost always been hypersexual. She is the most beautiful women I have ever seen and intelligent and talented, yet I don't want her sexually. And I like it that way. Now, because the fandom is made up of primarily straight women and gay men, maybe there is a correlation between the not being attracted to her? maybe? like we can recognize that she is gorgeous, but we wouldn't want to be involved with her. maybe there needs to be less of a focus on the daddy issues and more focus on mommy issues. if a straight woman and gay man both are attracted to men, maybe we are craving more woman figures in our lives? from a person we respect? idk.
i think the feeling like we don't fit in plays a huuuuuuuge role and might explain why the more Lana has been accepted by the critics and the public, the more fearful we become. we don't want to lose the person that made us embrace our perceived "flaws." Lana gave us comfort in an age where most of us were/are young which can be a scary time to face your sexuality and face the world that may not accept it. maybe that's why we have felt less connected to her since Lust for Life, because critics gave it good reviews. i basically just think the feeling of acceptance and being able to face and even embrace the darker sides of ourself resonates with us. i would like to see if there's a link between campy gay men and lana vs more "traditional" or masculine gay men and lana and what type of traits they look for in a partner. and she talked openly about sad subjects where gay men may have been criticized for talking about the same thing because it's seen as more of a "woman-trait" and society demands more masculinity from them. idk but it's definitely interesting and i liked the responses i've seen so far and can't wait to see what others say

I want to make two things clear:
I'm firmly in the anti-Sean camp. Not because he's a cop, but because of the kind of cop he is. In short, because he's Part Of The Problem™. To my fellow LanaBoarders who dislike him, I'm 100% with you on the substance. I'm down with dragging him to hell all across this forum and back. Lana says something on social media that reminds us anew why her dating him is problematic? Light her up. I'm down with that. He says something problematic on social media? Call him out and light him up. Tag Lana if you want. I'm good with that too. I'll probably even like or retweet those if I see them on my timeline. And my offer to wear a #DumpTheCop shirt to Lanaroo (if it's not canceled and if y'all wanna design and get me one) still stands.
But if you're harassing either of them about it just to harass them, I'm not down with it. At all. That crosses a line for me. Some of you even seem to be on a deliberate campaign to bombard them with harassment until they break up. That is really fucked up. And I'm not even sure what that achieves. Certainly not a moral victory. I mean, if Lana breaks up with him due to a recognition that she will keep receiving good faith reasonable criticism until she does, that's great, but if one or the other breaks up just because the harassment isn't worth it, on some level I'll still be happy she's not dating the cop, but it will be a pretty hollow victory where nobody's grown or learned anything, via means not justified by the end.
Yes, I'm absolutely sub-posting(?) some people here. Y'all know who you are.
