I really like how Lana is using an extended metaphor to describe her feelings for L.A by comparing it to a past lover a lover who was probably prosperous, came from money, successful and her lover is a somebody in life which is what L.A at the surface level embodies.

This is very reminiscent of the idea of the american dream which is prevalent through a lot of her music e.g the song Hollywood where she dreams of becoming that somebody and becoming prosperous in that way mentally and spiritually yet in this poem she questions who is she to dream when she is only a dreamer and has nothing else which creates a sense of self-deprecation and almost calling herself a burden in which she idolises L.A and thus idolises this lover especially in comparison to San Francisco and N.Y which are most likely her long lost exes.

In the later part of the poem she is also reiterating the idea that she is the other woman who belongs to no-one etc. which she has expressed in songs such as Ride and she describes herself as being an other woman to all these places and because of this realises that she can only belong in this lover's hands because 1.A lover in New York or New York itself has treated her so badly leading her to hate it and San Francisco or the lover there probably does not attend to her needs and makes her feel even more lost and more than anything it seems like Lana needs a sense of belonging and commonality which only L.A or that lover can give her.

Because she is that way being what she describes an orphan, belonging to no-one she says she must love L.A/him the most and she says to this lover/place that they do not have to offer anything more than what they are and in return she will love him/L.A deeper than the surface level which most people do and love deep and eternally.

In this poem she allows us to she her complex relationship between L.A/her lover and lets us visualise it in a highly memorable and tangible way making us visualise her lover, the way she loves and their general relationship as striking and very heartfelt and allowing the readers to thoroughly feel the sense of vulnerability we feel in love.

I'm more excited about the little changes to this site than a pre-order announcement at this point   Thank you Elle and co for all your work behind the scenes.

    Hi all!

We just completed Phase 1 of our updates. This was all behind-the-scenes stuff that will ensure a much smoother process to the big site update and server upgrade, so you all won’t notice any physical changes yet, but they’re coming! Because the site is so outdated, there’s a lot of bumps in the road we’re having to get by, so I apologise for the time this is taking.

We’ll have a waiting period before we’re ready and able to start Phase 2, so I decided to put the site back online until that’s ready to begin. I want to give you all as much time online as possible!

I’ll notify you all before we go offline again for Phase 2. (I apologise for not giving you all more of an immediate update on the boards before we went offline when Phase 1 started, I didn’t realise it was going to go offline so suddenly )

I’ve been posting these updates to the LanaBoards Twitter, so again if you haven’t followed it, I would recommend doing so to stay in-the-know during this process.

Thank you all again for your continued patience & support!

    Xoxo,
    Elle

she described born to die as an underground new york sound, ultraviolence as west coast, honeymoon as southern california, and nfr as laurel canyon (los angeles)

i want another record by her that's inspired by her new york upbringing

Bro, he openly supports Blue Lives Matter. That is a movement that conflicts with, and harms, the Black Lives Matter movement, thus it harms POC.

That's without even mentioning all his other shit.

She attended Black Lives Matter protests, plastered it all over her social media and acted like an ally ... so if she is now turning around (unconfirmed) and dating a Blue Lives Matter cop, that's performative af. The actions of rich  people with millions of fans DO have an impact, for better or worse, and they both fit into this category.

Your post is somewhat confusing, because in the first paragraph you're saying she's making a difference with her actions, and in the second, you're saying it doesn't make any difference what she does. Which is it?

She can visit every Native American community in the US and splash around her millions, but quite obviously, she doesn't get it, if she's with Sean.

One of the reasons POC disproportionately die at the hands of cops all the time is because white people either don't give a fuck, or pretend to give a fuck but don't really.

I'm done, so you can all breathe a sigh of relief.

God bless and fuck off if you don't like the posts.

Tulsa Jesus Freak should be a band or summit, like LANA DEL REY + THE TULSA JESUS FREAKS... Give us that satanic rock album, Lana!

Either way, the fact that she's still going on about it irks me. Even if they didn't fund her career directly, I would argue that they still did so indirectly.

What I mean by that is, it's easier to pursue a career in music, or whatever you want, if you have well-off parents to fall back on, and she has always had that. It's clear that she hasn't always had the best relationship with them, but I also don't think they ever would've left her to live on the street or anything. They, and their money, were always there if she ever needed it.

A lot of people don't have the privilege of choosing what they want to do with their lives, and have to do whatever they can to pay bills. It's not her fault that her parents are well-off, but I also think she should stop whining about people pointing out that they were.

You know, and then there's "they say that I'm rich, and I am - but not in the way that they think". As several critics have already pointed out, she IS rich in precisely the way we think. She has millions of dollars. We all get what she means but she didn't communicate it well, so it's difficult to argue that this is "good" poetry. In some cases, it's difficult to argue that it's poetry at all.

It is what it is, and I'm glad people are enjoying it, but I don't think anyone should be acting as if she's the Next Best American Poet.

Lana should do a Christmas album, but original Christmas song and by that I mean depressing songs about the holidays!

she def came from money and is privileged from her family. but i'm assuming at some point she started being entirely financially independent. so i think the (true) accusation that she's privileged and the (false) accusation that her dad bought her success gets tied up in her brain so she talks about how poor she was every opportunity she gets and pretends to have crawled out from under a bridge

For NFR we got 2 songs a year before release & thought it was going to come in March. This era is much shorter, more coordinated and just feels safer imo. I definitely prefer this era, because as you said, NFR was just super messy.

I can't even believe that the wait might be over in a month

I feel like with NFR I was way more impatient probably because she kept releasing so many teasers for the songs but with COCC I don't feel nearly as the same cuz I guess she's keeping everything on the low which I guess is gonna lead to a more exciting and less messy release idk

for some reason I feel like she's gonna go hard on the vocals with this album at least somewhere inside me secretly really wants that lol

We can only hope... I just don't want it to be all Antonoff... Maybe a couple tracks form Rick or even Emile Haynie
