If anything, I want this album to just sound beautiful and truly "light" in its atmosphere, more in the style of Let The Light In rather than Not All Who Wander Are Lost.

ocean blvd’s was full of muffled songs, that henry snippet sounded so clear, so I hope the other songs sounds as clear

Some people are just sensitive--it may be in your DNA, or some might attribute it to astrology, Myers-Briggs, or something along those lines-- there are people who are extremely emotionally sensitive, and there are people who are intuitively or physically sensitive. Some are all. I am intuitively sensitive but not emotionally sensitive. As we know, some people are insensitive--not sensitive at all. 

 

The only Lana song that has made me cry--multiple times--is Old Money. The Greatest has come close to making me cry--how can a brilliant song about the end of the world not? And Swan Song too. 

But if you've been a member here a while, then you've seen how many members have reported crying to Lana songs, especially on first hearing. I recall a member saying they were crying so hard they had to pull their car off the road on their first listen to Fingertips. I recall a member saying that the title song of Blue Banisters made them cry. 

 

Crying is good. It's good to have a release, to get it out. For me, that's one of the uses of music and art--to counter our natural repression response to hurt and life's many other unpleasantnesses. 

 

I don't know what to expect from TRPWS at all--musically, thematically, or lyrically, as Lana has said so many varied things about it and we know it's been reconceived, and maybe more than once a la Lust for Life--but that also makes it more exciting. For me, almost every one of Lana's albums has had a Lana Classic on it, one or more. Will TRPWS make us cry? Maybe.

She wasn't sure about the production of the album in August but she allegedly finished and mastered it in September so I guess she went for the folky and acoustic route 

I kinda want another guitar (non country) album from her so I'm happy

i have a bad feeling about past present future song's fate on the album because it seems to be a super lush 'banger' and then there's also henry which is an acoustic song. like they don't seem to mesh together sonically but i still have hope because it's the same woman who put peppers and fingertips, cherry and change, the trio and beautiful on the same album.

Could Past, Present, Future be a cover of the song made famous by the the Shangri-Las and brilliantly covered by Marianne Faithfull about 15 years ago?

We know Lana is a fan of the Shangri-Las.

I still don't think that Henry is going to be an acoustic song in the end. I mean, if it's acoustic I'm fine with it, but I think we'll be surprised with Henry

Have I missed something? We do we know Lana's PPF is an original song? 

 

The Shangri-Las song is pretty grim, and while I can see Lana covering it, it doesn't seem to fit with the theme of the album title or her marriage.

But about The Shangri-Las, I do remember that Lana or Jack Antonoff said that the original direction for the NFR album was the sound of 1960s girl group songs like The Shangri-Las, so maybe, it's just a theory that the song originated from those earlier NFR! sessions.

Thanks for the clip--I had heard it but didn't realize that was Past, Present, Future. 

 

I thought it was Lust For Life that had the acknowledged the Shangri-Las influence, on Cherry for example, and Get Free. Maybe it carried over to NRF!?

The group also influenced the songs in Lust For Life but I remember it was said the same about the original direction of NFR as well. Many of her album's first written tracks are influenced by the previous release, for example the sound of the Lust For Life demo is very similar to Honeymoon but also Old Money's production (the earliest Ultraviolence song) is very similar to the sound of Paradise.

 

That also makes me wonder how similar will The Right Person Will Stay be to Ocean Blvd

I can buy that theory, but I don't subscribe to the theory, mentioned many times here, that the last song on every Lana album predicts the thematic, lyrical, and musical direction of the next album. 

 

Since TRPWS was put together over some four years, I don't see how OB's colorings could influence it in a major way. Since I'm not an OB fan for the most part, I hope it doesn't.

I wouldn’t be mad at this as Ocean Blvd is my fav album of all time. But also I really want something new a fresh and OB did it’s job I don’t rlly need more of it

Definitely old money for me also,  in The Grants the lyrics ‘My grandmother's last smile, I'm gonna take that too with me’ made me bawl I won’t lie, I had recently lost my grandmother too so it hit too close.  I have a feeling TRPWS will probably have a few tear-jerkers, hopefully more the happy sad kind.
