Maybe this is better off as a status or a blog or something, but the world at the brink of war puts my own tiny world into perspective and makes me think about the ways I would change if I knew disaster could strike at any moment. Living with intentionality, spreading kindness, clearing the air of any grievances, practicing more and more empathy… While I personally don’t know people in Ukraine and Taiwan, I have friends who have family/friends there and I’m praying for tensions to die down, regardless of how improbable that might be at this point. My heart breaks for the civilians and armed forces alike who will go through the unimaginable. I wish I could do more. Hug your loved ones gorls

There have been reports of bombings in Kyiv and other cities. Very very bad. Sending thoughts to any users in the region <3 I have spent quite a lot of time in Russia and I have a lot of Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian friends and I'm very scared for all of them rn

there’s something about gen z that thinks we can fix all our problems by signing petitions. people just want to be included in something that ultimately serves no purpose.

Its just wild to me a WAR in 2022? It’s just an archaic thing, we have plenty of ways to go through this, negotiations, a call lmao its just crazy im losing my mind as my history teacher said in spanish “Debemos conocer la historia, para no repetirla” which translates to “we must know the history, so we don’t repeat it” and it’s true it’s true…

i've been watching this situation worsen and worsen, but didn't wanna make a thread about it. idk, it's just so sad what's happening. And then Pootey keeps trying to send threats to the rest of the world. What I don't understand is why nobody else threatens him. Like.... i mean, he can say what he wants but nobody else can? idk, it's just sad. sanctions will hurt the really rich in russia, but it's not going to be enough to make them back off. and their economy is already shit, so it'll only hurt the poor even worse. and the worst part is china is watching this shit go down and how nobody is backing up ukraine, that means they can go for taiwan. same for north korea, the us has troops in south korea, but not as much as we used to. this is hitler level shit. they have a kill list of ukrainians and they want to send them to camps too. what does this mean for other neighboring countries? will they face the same fate? fuck.

they really think the russians will hold an emergency meeting like 'guys, we HAVE to ceasefire, user arianasdildo started a petition that has a million signatures'

THIS is what scares me... he is on a war path... it seems he does not care what the ramifications are? I feel so bad for the people In Ukraine ... also Putin saying the western world will see "consequences greater than any you've faced in history" if we try to stop gives me chills .... like what do they have ??? Grid control ? satellite control?

we exist in a time of overactivism and underaction. with the rise of social media now more than ever we have access to the fastest and most unbias WORLD news. This makes everyone want to solve everything, especially when they exist in a state of privelage/observation, like many people in first world countries. It also makes pretending to care so much easier for everyone. Once you have the proof that you supported said cause because you posted it on said day, its easier to not think about again. I think performative activism especially on platforms like instagram and twitter are perpetually more harmful than just staying silent tbh

I'm no expert on sanctions but if I'm not mistaken, one of the biggest banks in Russia (if not THE biggest bank) is Sberbank - in fact, it's one of the biggest banks in Europe - and it was not on the list of sanctioned banks. It's owned by the Russian government so WTF? That said, the problem with sanctions is that you go too far with them and you hurt normal people, who have done nothing to deserve it. Just like how there are people starving in Afghanistan because of sanctions. All these politicians need to sort their shit out, and fast. We do not want WW3.

The joke is, even Putin‘s own people are protesting against that war. He has nobody on his side frankly - except nuclear weapons and that is really the only fucking problem. One of his goals was obviously to weaken the bonds of Europe and the USA, respectively the NATO but what happened is that countries like Sweden are considering to become members of the NATO now. Exactly the opposite of what he wanted. The bonds are stronger than ever and there’s so many countries, all the way to Australia, that are condemning Putin‘s actions. The only problem are the weapons he has. Btw I just wanna say, I love how nobody is coming for Russians but only for Putin here. Hatred against an entire nation because of what their leader is doing is just furthering the war rhetoric!

The amount of people on Twitter trolling about this and shit is so genuinely disturbing. The lengths people will go to for a fucking like on a tweet astounds me.

You can't just invade a sovereign nation because many of your citizens live there. These people used to all belong to the same country and there are many Russians in Ukraine, and vice versa. It'd be like New Zealand saying they're going to annex part of Australia because something like 600,000 New Zealanders live here. It's the same level of unacceptable. And I mean, it's not just about eastern Ukraine now - it's about all of Ukraine.

That‘s incredibly brave in my opinion. And the more people join, the less a government can do about it. You can‘t imprison your entire country. Like wtf is he even doing, everybody hates him. That man is gonna go down in history books as an asshole, is he aware…?!

small military action happens across the world frequently, yes for sure. but full scale invasion and assault on a sovereign nation by its neighbor, which happens to be the second most powerful military nation in the world, does not. particularly when all pretext appears to be manufactured and is only occurring because a tyrant wants to restore his country’s former greatness. There has been fighting in regions in Ukraine (Donbas, Crimea) for years, which has rarely been spoken about, it’s just that this is an all out attack and attempted takeover of entire cities which have 2-4 million people living in them. It’s just the scale of which this is happening which is making this lead to people declaring it the beginning of a new “war” in my opinion that is

just saw a video of a Ukrainian father kissing his daughter goodbye on twitter and it broke my heart. my heart hurts for the citizens of ukraine and i hope this doesn’t escalate to something even worse and is resolved quickly

What a lot of people need to learn is how to have empathy for situations that don't involve them specifically. Going online and shitposting about a situation that's literally killing people (especially if it's not actively hurting you) isn't okay in any form. All in all, I hope for what we all hope for: resolution and the smallest amount of casualties possible.

I'm usually a v political person but at this point I'm just speechless. It just seems these things never end. What a planet... Wish we didn't have all this sin, wish we all just got along and contributed to the world and loved one another. Before future "inevitable" takeovers i.e. Taiwan and Kashmir, may more people have some fucking mercy on the all the innocents.

My BPD is flaring the fuck up, I hate to be that girl but everything that has happened to me today was shit and this is just the icing on the shit cake. I’ve been dissociating on and off since this morning lol. Verging a panic attack constantly. I got my prescription anxiety meds but they’re not enough and I just can’t relax this is really fucking scaring me. Like Fallout style scaring me

I've literally just woken up to this. Putin isn't scared of sanctions or half baked threats. He's gotten away with violating the sovereignty of other countries and invading before. He won't stop BC he knows damn full well the likes of my country (UK) won't do anything meaningful to stop him. Like seizing all Russian oligarchs assets, money, properties etc and not giving them back at all.

his dreams of a slavic empire are truly disturbing in the 21st century. the entire notion of isolationist empires were done away with after ww1/2 BC they lead to more wars rip

we're concerned about the innocent people living in ukraine who's lives are in danger, i promise that nobody here is "simping for" any corrupt politicians, & innocent people should've have to die for a country to be "denazified" some of the most ridiculous takes i've seen on this website have been posted in this thread

When I went there, we were all warned by our company not to make any negative remarks about Putin or the Russian govt, either in person or on our socials. You can get into big trouble so it is incredibly brave of Russians to go out and protest. They know very well there will be consequences and they're still doing it. Best wishes to all of them.

very well said. i've been also seeing a lot of people on reddit and twitter posting memes about the situation in the name of coping by the use of humor when in reality a coping mechanism isn't even applicable in this situation, not when you're not the victim of a war that will potentially leave hundreds of thousands of people dead, injured, and without homes. not to mention the inevitable economic crisis that has already started, a lot of countries that import wheat, corn, and oil have been going through major inflation (including my country) and people are already protesting and things could easily escalate to violence and even civil wars, coup d'état, etc. it's very damaging to belittle the situation while living in a safe country that'll probably go unaffected by making memes 'to cope'.
