really really sad... please take care of yourselves mentally and emotionally today/tonight wherever you are. Try not to get trapped in endless twitter scrolling and reading news articles, you don’t need overexposure to something so upsetting. For some of you it might be most beneficial to take some time offline and reflect on what SOPHIE, her music, and her artistry meant to you. For me, I’m reflecting on how impactful Product was on me and my friends when it came out and how things have changed and I have grown. Continue to be good and kind to one another

I think it would be really respectful in the futur to never mention Taxi or XCX World to Charli ever again. Yes it became a meme inside the fanbase, but it will now be attached to Sophie's terrible passing and for her to receive messages remembering the lost of her friend would be awful Edit: And to Sophie's fan too as seeing these messages will remember them of Sophie's passing

In case it’s not abundantly clear already - please allow Charli to respond in her own time. She’s made it very clear how impactful SOPHIE has been to her music, career and artistry. It’s going to be a sore topic for many in that circle for a very long time.

Since she died in Athens, her death literally sounds like a myth of a girl trying to reach and talk to the moon. I hope she did see what she wanted. Sophie was indeed a goddess. Love her always and forever

She really deserved so much better, her influence and talent went so unappreciated. XCX World never got to see the light of day and her work with Gaga got scrapped because people weren’t ready to embrace her artistry, it’s sickening.

Official Statement: "It is with profound sadness that I have to inform you that musician and producer SOPHIE passed away this morning around 4am in Athens, where the artist had been living, following a sudden accident. At this time respect and privacy for the family is our priority. We would also ask for respect for her fanbase, and to treat the private nature of this news with sensitivity." https://mixmag.net/read/musician-sophie-died-news a fucking accident it was an accident it wasn't anything more the chance of life that's always there you've got to be fucking kidding me i can't fucking believe this

it feels so weird to me i actually kinda processed that she's gone BUT i feel devastated everytime i see someone refferencing to her in the *past* tense... she IS the icon she IS the industry she IS the pioneer she IS the inspiration i just refuse to refference to her in the past tense, because of her art she and her legacy will live forever, there's no past tense for SOPHIE, she's here and now forever

i think one thing that should be commented that maybe isn’t brought up - sophie not only had a huge influence on the entire industry but a huge influence on local music cultures in glasgow as well. every indie, electronic, max-msp wielding art school student in this city is in the likeness of her. a true legend locally and internationally.

I'm gonna be moderating this thread pretty closely for a while. Please be respectful about what you post and be kind to one another. Obviously all the information is not out there. Consider not messaging her friends and family at this time, as if something has happened they need some privacy. Any trolling or bad taste jokes in this thread will have you instantly put on mod queue pending further action. I understand how important SOPHIE is to the community so if any of you are really struggling mentally my PMs are open.

Fuck! Just heard the news about Sophie and honestly kinda speechless... really hope her family and friends are coping, can't even imagine how they and Charli must feel. Like, Charli XCX wouldn't be Charli XCX if it weren't for Sophie! So many great songs together, Vroom Vroom, Paradise, Trophy, Secret (Shh), Roll With Me, Out Of My Head, No Angel, Girls Night Out and god knows how many more that have leaked and remain unreleased! They were truly ahead of the times... I'm kinda not ready for when Charli addresses the situation, cos its gonna be super emotional.

Such a devastating loss to the LGBTQ+ and electronic community. A legendary icon and queen of PC Music. Is It Cold In The Water is dedicated to her today. (My favorite of hers) I thank her so much for the wonderful music and being the voice for many trans artists to pursue in this industry. WE LOVE YOU SOPHIE. ? ?

to me SOPHIE and charli are so connected this feels twice as painful, i'm losing one of my favourite artists and my other favourite artist (charli) lost her biggest inspiration. i fear for charli's acknowledgement of the death, it's still so early in LA she might be sleeping and i'm breaking for her already

I’m having a real hard time accepting the news, like it still hasn’t settled in that she passed away. This is a set back for the music industry, like I truly believe that this girl was about to change the whole music industry with her sound (esp. with the transnation tracks). I’m also mad that in a way she wasn’t celebrated enough during her lifetime. It’ just cluster of emotions that I’m feeling rn and I just want this to be a bad dream or even a sick joke...

I really can’t believe this.. it’s so heartbreaking & surreal. She’s truly the most unique producer + artist I’ve seen since Björk. The way she breathed new life into pop music is so special and I’ll never forget her or stop listening to her music... I’m so heartbroken that she’s gone. I couldn’t cry last night before bed because I was trying to convince myself it wasn’t true / she’d be okay. Now I’m fighting off tears at work. This is truly such a devastating loss for the LGBT+ community and the music industry... rest in peace + power, queen of the full moon ♥️?

i don’t think i’ll ever get over this. she means so much to me and this is just so heartbreaking. her music honestly made me feel like I was levitating. her sound is so unique and truly revolutionized pop and electronic music. im so glad i ventured into this whole new world of music and discovered her. my heart aches for her closest friends.. charli, ciciaran, evita, arca, and so on. she’ll always be my forever rest in power

The bells from I Wanna Be With U keeps resonating in my head ever since i heard about her passing, such a sweet and endearing but also euphoric production. It's the music equivalent of ascending to heaven, SOPHIE was a musical genius. I don't think i need to mention that her energy, especially with Charli, was unmatched. What a loss for the art world. I really hope Charli is doing ok, such heartbreaking news could damage her mental health forever.

I'll never forget how powerful and embraced she made me feel listening to "It's Ok to Cry" before and after coming out, devastating, just devastating

SOPHIE taught me that a free being lives by no labels, and most importantly, doesn’t fit into a box. They simply keep filling and collecting boxes. Rest in such immense power.

its just so heartbreaking that we'll never get another chance to deep dive into her mind like we did with product and oil. a huge force in pop music was lost and it truly hurts to think about a future without her. she was so meticulous about her craft and we were all so lucky to get to experience it

Here's a tiny piece from an assignment I had to write today for my English course on a writing that's affected us recently: "SOPHIE, a music producer I’ve known for years now, had passed away early in the morning. I began reading the dozens of writings from her close friends to fans to music critics, each of them intertwined with distraught and empowerment of her being. I felt liberated from the sadness I had held onto and instead started to empower her memory as well and honor the work she’s left behind. People’s words they left for her helped me realize that this is not a situation to feel sorry for her, this is a situation to share her mind with others and thank her for being as powerful as she was." Her passing has weighed heavy on my mindset today, combined with other things, it's kind of made me feel a desire that I hadn't recognized before. I hope she's on the ethereal plane we all hope to get to one day.

Omg I think this too. She has always been casted out in a way or another. XCX World being scrapped for the lack of trust in her sound, Nothing is Promised and the Rihanna tracks too, her production on Bitch I'm Madonna and 1,2,3 Days Up being overshadowed by other safer producers, and lastly, all her work on Chromatica (that would've been her trampoline to mainstream) completely trashed in favor of Bloodpop basicness. Now it's too late, even if a postume project ever comes out

I am beyond devastated. Truly at a loss for words. She was the first artist I've ever heard who I truly believed was a visionary. I'm not sure how we're gonna get over this. This is the first artist death that has really shaken me. SOPHIE is a part of my life every day and I just can't believe this is real. I will love you forever

she truly created a fortress for PC music and hyperpop music combined.. i remember hearing her music in 2015 thinking of how adverse her music was to the "normal" pop industry. she changed and created an entire sub/genre of music. she did so much for the LGBTQ+ community with her presence and music, and her legend will live on, i know that for a fact. i'm still in shock over this. i'm wishing the best for her peers. this seemed to happen out of nowhere and she was so young

it’s really a strange feeling when one of the girls dies. it happens so irregularly and it really faces you with your own mortality. the kind of emotions that come from a situation like this are really complex. i’m really sorry to all of her really big fans, i wish we could bring her back.

If you feel like you've lost hope hearing about her death - please don't. Look at how much support she's got, even from mainstream DJ's, performers and singers - this is huge! Everyone using the correct pronouns, acknowledging her work and legacy - truly a progressive icon for LGBT and creatives. It's amazing - we can grieve but feel relief that everyone is here for her and the community
