It’s just so mind boggling to me that someone could still be so attached to Born To Die for whatever reasons and still expect a recycling of that sound and aesthetic 10 years down the road of an artist who is well known for completely changing her sound from album to album. Even Norman and Chemtrails (which many cite as similar) had crucial differences between them (the former being a harrowing, dazzling surf rock look at a dying America/falling culture, the latter being a quite more introspective, neo-folk incursion into a desire in escaping to a simpler reality, where fame doesn’t exist). Over the course of 10 years and 8 albums, Lana has given us an all-changing variety of soundscapes and concepts, always evolving and maturing as a singer and songwriter. To ask or expect her to return to previous eras and/or sonorities is completely negating and ignoring how much her writing, singing, producing and melody arranging has changed throughout the years. She’s not the same person as she was in 2011 - and she has explicitly affirmed she has no intention to. It’s absolutely fine to not love or support this album. Like, whatever. I myself dislike Arcadia and most of the fandom seems to love it - different opinions are bound to happen within any given fandom or corner of art criticism and consumption. Just don’t put your views and perspectives on a pedestal to the point of becoming condescending and pretentious. They’re absolutely useless and detrimental to the healthy and constructive conversations that can be born from our differences. We’re not 13 anymore, fucking hell.

Your constant negativity is irritating in general, and this post is lacking clear perspective. You’re acting like Lana didn’t just sell 75K first week this March? This is her *second album this year*, and there are multiple valid, legitimate reasons why the sales are what they are.

Sorry but this is such a bad take. There are tons of people here who are genuinely loving the album and are certainly super fans, or we wouldn't be spending so much of our time on LanaBoards. It's fine if the album didn't click for you, but don't act like you're enlightened because of it, and those of us who think the album is brilliant and beautiful are either faking it or don't know what we're talking about. I actually feel like a true super fan is more likely to pick up on a lot of the intricacies of the album and absolutely understand what Lana was doing here. It's a great record with a cohesive and complex story.

This is hilariously condescending. Half of her albums aren’t even above 7/10 in your rankings. If half her output is that mediocre to you, frankly, l don’t consider YOU to be a true fan. A lot of us here genuinely do feel she’s putting out consistently great albums. Your experience with her music, your favorite songs - they don’t automatically apply to everyone else.

I think a lot of people missed the memo that Lust for Life was a gift for the fans and just a transition to where she's going now, which is deeper into a more personal and contemplative nature of writing music

Okay, in all honestly... 1. The album has been out for only 4 days 2. It had the best debut of the week on Spotify and also 2 best debuting songs (IYLDWM and Dealer) 3. It holds the highest score of all time by users (9.7) on Metacritic 4. The streaming numbers are actually good 5. The final sales have been penalized by delayed physical copies - which constitutes the 60% of Lana sales - so that's the only real and practical reason why she probably won't score #1 6. It's her second record in the same year and the 8th of her discography 6. Who cares? Do you know how many artists would KILL to have the results that Lana has today? So, one point is to say "I don't like the album, along other fans" and another is to pretend that "it tanked because fans didn't enjoy it". And aside from all that... I always think that some of you can't properly understand one fundamental thing about nowadays' Lana career. Lana is no longer just a singer. Lana is not just an artist. Lana has fully become a singer-songwriter, which means she will always make more personal and less radio-friendly music. Period. In fact, this was the first time that the album didn't have a "proper hit", a catchy song, which generally helps with charts. And you know why? Because BB is not that kind of album. Perhaps someday she will make something lighter for the GP again, but this is not today and that's fine, thank God for that!

Many users have stated time and time again that they wish Lana made songs like she used to. The user I was referring to reinforced that. I was lukewarm to Lana using old songs as well until I heard them in the project the way she intended us to. With all due respect but simply saying that she’s “lazy” or “unimaginative” because she’s readapting old songs (which leaks she had no autonomy over - what in and of itself doesn’t make it a RE-USE as you said) is just looking at this project through very strained and close minded goggles. I can’t imagine a previous project of hers being able to fit in Cherry Blossom and Living Legend within their narratives and concepts for instance. Both songs are so intricately tied to the themes of motherhood through very different meanings and perspectives - considering this is the very first project of hers in which she openly talks about her difficult relationship with her mother and the overall impact her family ties have had in her own perception of intimacy building and how the failures of her romantic relationships are intimately tied with her own upbringing, I’d say this is the first time CB and LL (for example) actually make any sense being included in a LDR album; CB is a lullaby to an imaginary child and LL is an homage to her surrogate mother… which then flows right into SC which itself is a direct reassurance towards her sister who’s about to become a mother herself: these three songs in succession being positioned at the back half of an album that gently delves into the toxicity and abandonment of her own strained relationship with her biological mother figure is a good enough reason for those songs to be included. It’s not just going to a vault and picking up whatever demos she thinks are cool enough to be released - there’s a distinct narrative purpose that is very new in her discography and it makes perfect sense that she would feel like those songs found a home in the vision she wants to share with the world. With that said, I don’t want to keep trying to explain whatever concept or narrative reside within this album. Either you get it/relate to it/appreciate it or you don’t and that’s fine. What I think it’s unfair is to try and extrapolate general conclusions about what’s a real fan or not based on individual responses and opinions towards Blue Banisters. I know you weren’t the one who started out this conversation but you intervened and here we are.

So we're not true fans for liking the album, but you were literally on here a few months ago going on and on about Lana's body in a negative manner and you are? This just in: people are allowed to like new things and still be a fan of the artist! I don't care whether or not you like the album, this is a weird mentality for anyone to have on any musician. I agree that most of those songs you mentioned are outstanding tracks, but that doesn't take away from there being tracks people like on Blue Banisters too and to claim that it does makes absolutely zero sense. This is just a general thing to everyone, myself included: your opinions do not equal facts, and you shouldn't present them as such. Okay, rant over

Cherry Blossom hits different when you think that Lana's singing for you directly almost as if she's looking out for us especially when things get complicated or hard

But the album isn't even underperforming like ?? There are thousands of artists out there that would kill to have Lana's numbers. Even labels would kill to have an artist like Lana that doesn't need much budget and still manages to maintain a loyal fanbase, critical acclaim and good sales 8 albums into her career (and don't forget how good her tours do too). US first week sales were fucked because of the physicals but the full numbers will be good anyway. Lana is set for life (just with BTD royalties) and she does this cause she loves the music. She could have the biggest flop of the universe, get dropped by her label and still continue to put out records every year so who cares

The album got more streams in it's 4th day than Chemtrails did and received 5,339,181 streams yesterday. Of course it's not as high as the streams of other artists, but that's not what matters at all. It's not "tanking" (and even if it was, who cares?). Generally, I don't know why you're so obsessed with the fact that Lana's numbers aren't as high as they were in past eras. Streams don't equal quality, which kind of feels like what you're trying to say. And about Dealer trending, it literally just started getting popular a few days ago, so obviously it's not as big as other viral Lana songs. It's fun to celebrate when Lana does well in her numbers, but that shouldn't be the focus of being a fan. You should be a fan because you enjoy the music.

I feel like i'm in the minority who loves the production choice in WFWF. It elevates the song completely and fits the title and thematic elements of the track

The year is 2091. Lana is already dead and the remaining fans will still cry about her not doing hip hop beats and Blue Jeans 2.0 from beyond the grave

I just received the items I pre-ordered from Lana's US store! The transparent white vinyl, the two exclusive cover CDs, and the red & brown cassettes. (Bad lighting in the photo, sorry.) I also received the Target CD I pre-ordered yesterday too. I'm still waiting on the yellow vinyl I ordered from Urban Outfitters and the signed art cards & CDs from her Canadian store and her Netherlands merchant. I have received notices from both though that it will be delayed, her Canadian store will ship November 12th & Platenzaak NL isn't sure yet. Sounds like that they both will be shipping the CD first and then the signed card when it's ready. I'm so happy! As a collector, whenever I receive merch I ordered, it feels like my birthday (which is ironic since my birthday actually was earlier this month lol)

Haven’t even read the drama, but the facts are this: - The album has an 80 on Metacritic and is 1 point away from “Universal Acclaim” status. - Lana discussing the album on Live showed how much thought and care she put into it. - Her team/label botching the physicals fucked up the sales. That is a fact. - Lana deleting ALL of her socials a month before her album release helped nothing. - If her sales aren’t where you want them to be, ask yourself “Did I buy the album and support my fave?”, then go from there. We’ve been spoiled with another classic.

I don’t think anyone is challenging your opinion on the record (which you are absolutely entitled to). People are taking an issue with the fact that you invalidated people’s fan-ship based on THEIR personal opinion, that just so happens to be contrary to yours. Nobody has called you a “fake fan” because you dislike the record, so it’s seemingly fallible for you to suggest that people are “fake fans” because they do like it.

chill sis, the album has only been out for 4 days, it's not always about whether or not the fandom loves it. Remember: this album is doing all of these numbers without receiving any proper promotion, no radio plays, no playlisting, no hype at all to begin with, the social media is the only place to promo the album and give it more hype but Lana chose to sign off & deactivated all the socials ONE MONTH before the release, think bigger. And one more important thing, billboard rules change like everysingle day, and sadly the first week physical sales does not even count. Try to understand the situation shall we?

What is all this fighting here oh my god do y'all stan Lana because she's commercially successful? It's so clear that neither she or her team care a lot about chart placement, she's just giving us her beautiful music (TWO times this year). This is what matters, so I will never understand why some here care about her chart success more than her own team. And to those who say that we, who enjoyed this new record, are not real fans - literally get a life. Whether the songs on BB are West Coast/Ride etc level is PURELY subjective and you really shouldn't care about the opinion of others. Let people enjoy things, this toxic behaviour reminds me of the hellhole that the Star Wars fandom is right now.

some of you people are clearly not song writers or artists. her putting the songs out from years ago IS growth. We were never supposed to have them in the first place so if you were disappointed with them being on there, maybe you shouldn’t have listened to them in the first place.

my vinyl arrived today and wow, this is definitely her most sophisticated cover... it's really really lovely to look at the colours are so warm and inviting, the yellow goes really nicely with the brown and the white frame, her dress is silky and stunning, her bare feet make her look so relaxed, open and vulnerable and the dogs look so strong and protective, just beautiful ultraviolence, born to die and blue banisters are by far her best covers

I have the weirdest feeling that her next main album after blue banisters is going to really go all in on stylish, evocative bops something in the vein of the trio, dealer, wildflower wildfire (outro), more summery surf vibes, trip hop, Mike Dean production….. could be totally wrong but I feel like she’s coming back towards a more pop-centred album next time.
