Well, we’ve made it to the post-release! This record is absolutely amazing and she’s truly done it once again. It feels fresh but so familiar at the same time and every song blew me away. Wow. Here are my thoughts on each individual track: White Dress What a stunning opener. The vocals on the chorus are an artistic risk for Lana, but the desperation in their delivery are perfect for the song. A song like this demands to have a more experimental creative output and I love that she does just that while still retaining her signature melodic style. The production during the outro of the song reminds me of the ending of the audio for Patent Leather Do-Over. Lyrically, it’s also very evocative and I was reminded of Venice Bitch actually. Beautiful track! Chemtrails Over the Country Club This song goes so well after White Dress. The way White Dress trails off, only to immediately jump into the beautiful opening couplets of the song with their pulsing mid tempo rhythm. Gorgeous. Loved this track from the start and it sounds even more beautiful (if that was even possible) within the album! Tulsa Jesus Freak Wow..this song totally did not go where I thought it would based on the snippet. I absolutely love it. It’s sultry, it’s pensive, it’s a little bit serious and thoughtful, but it’s still fun at the same time! Also - the mixing on this is GORGEOUS. I think this is one of the smoothest songs I’ve ever heard - it flows together so seamlessly and truly swells. I love how the smoothness of the beat is juxtaposed with the harsh vocals of the “we’ll be white hot forever and ever and ever” motif. Stunning track - we finally got it! Let Me Love You Like a Woman I was always a huge fan of this song, and I love it within this album. I think it’s the most earnest sounding on the album with its very determined piano chord progression (being F-C-G) and its vocal treatment being very 80s heartland rock. I definitely feel like this is the heart of the record. Wild at Heart The vocals on this damn song. I love that Lana is flexing her range so much more on this record! The lyrics are very cute while still being so meaningful, which I absolutely love. The message is really important and I can tell that this is a special song to Lana as well. The chorus is one of my favourite moments on this record and I like that she sampled the bridge from How to Disappear! It works so well in this song and really is a standout for me. Love it! Dark But Just a Game The intro to this song is so smooth and bluesy...I love it so much. I definitely hear the Portishead comparisons from MOJO in full effect here during the verses, but the pre-chorus was very Beatles-esque, with those beautiful layered vocals and major-key harmonies. I also like that she interpolated the original melody from the Bird World demo she sang on IG live on September 4, 2019! I also think the lyrics are really cool and do an amazing job of switching between this cool, flippant attitude and this reflective, self-preserving affirmation. Beautiful song! Not All Who Wander Are Lost This song is beautiful. The vocals during the chorus are beautifully layered and I love how anecdotal it feels with her talking about being in Nebraska and wearing the same clothes for three days. It’s really earnest and stripped down, which truly conveys the mood perfectly. I was reminded of Pawn Shop Blues upon my first listen, so I feel like this song is definitely one of the moments on the album where Lana is reconnecting with her folky sensibility the most! Yosemite Well, we finally got it! What can I say, other than what a beautiful track. The guitar is very bittersweet sounding, it almost weeps with hope as Lana delivers a very vulnerable set of lyrics in her head voice before coming down for the chorus. I love it so much, it reminds me of Change, in that it feels anticipatory for something, and I think Lana probably felt that way too upon putting it onto this record. Definitely a beautiful song, long-awaited for and it does not disappoint at all! Breaking Up Slowly This song is beautiful. The guitar is almost sexier sounding than what I thought, but it’s perfect - it’s bluesy, meditative, a little bit gritty. So good! Nikki’s voice goes so well next to Lana’s - they both harmonize perfectly and I love the flutter of Lana’s voice when she sings “flowers”. I love this song so much! Dance Till We Die I think this song might be my favourite from the whole album. It feels like a career song, in that she weaves so many important people and aspects of her life to reflect on her loneliness in the past and makes this affirmation to never stop dancing till she dies, walk on the sunnier side, etc. It’s hopeful but also contains this sense of impending “something.” I don’t know what quite yet, but it feels very important. And that bridge! Oh my god. I loved that. Beautiful lyrics, imagery, vocal delivery, production, all that. Just wow. For Free Such a beautiful way to end the record. All the girls’ voices sound so clear and beautiful here. The harmonies when they all sing together are beautiful and I love that Jack added a little bit of extra production just to distinguish from Joni’s original and the live version Lana sang on tour, without making a parody of sorts of the song (not that would Lana would EVER do that - she always nails it, no matter what). I love this interpretation, I’ve loved both Lana and Joni Mitchell for a long time so this feels very cool to me. I also like how this track thematically connects to White Dress (basically every song on this record could be connected in some way and I love the cohesion and the narrative that is present). I think this may end up becoming my favourite album EVER, even upon first listen. It’s purely who Lana is but invites us to take an even closer look at her life, her love, and her thoughts. I love everything about this project and I can say with sincerity that without even knowing it, this is the record I’ve been waiting for her to make, and I’m sure it’s the one she’s been waiting to make her entire life as well.

SALVATORE'S UPDATED THOUGHTS ON YOSEMITE yosemite- i lied above. i listened to the entire record with the incense and the breeze but yosemite i saved, i saved until the dead of night, and drove to an observatory be alone in my car outlooking the silent city sparkling on cliffside, engulfed in pines and hibernating wildflowers and i played yosemite on repeat for 45 or so minutes staring silently into the dead. this song is everything i've ever wanted. it's what kept me alive in a year i tried my best not to be and i built a fun following around it, i emailed interviewers, writers, tried to find photographers and collected every bit of information of the song i could. bought magazines that referenced yosemite, i did an entire paper around Yosemite by John Muir. I have two shirts from the 70s referencing yosemite, i've stumbled upon bottle openers from the park out in the roads where i'd walk alone at night hoping i'd be at the wrong end of a desperate persons violence for no reason other than trying to find feeling, yosemite is a lot to me and when we didn't get it in LfL i was heartbroken and decided to crave it more than ever before upon her interview of MAC/VB i knew Architecture was the theme of Norman. Even though the song said to not start the new record i felt she wouldn't give up the past title track of Lust for Life that easy, or at least her muse wouldn't. The description of norman as a cocky artist with an ego that needed settling, the rejected scraps of White Mustang's music video, it all felt too coincidental and i called it that Architecture would have inspired, or be on the album (i was right), following i felt Yosemite would come to fruition here, having Lust for Life be this disjointed parent record of Norman Fucking Rockwell, i figured it'd stay similar for 'White Hot Forever'; the attempts at social commentary, the deliverance into an acoustic side to her discography, they'd be messily glued on Lust for Life and then refound in their own spaces, and now they have been. and Yosemite is the song of Chemtrails. The music itself is everything i had hoped, it was brooding, optimistic, enchanting, emotional and methodical. Her rescinding the song out of vocal vulnerability in the same breath she killed malibu out of fear of transparency found a funny way into an album full of airy and broken vocals. White Dress being a thread laced through Wild at Heart in the way it is through Yosemite through Dark through For Free. The a capella she sung in 2017 obviously didn't do it justice and how anyone thought it could was laughable and that is their own fault. Her voice here is gorgeous, the song writing is beautiful, the atmosphere created in this song is so . fucking. beautiful. I knew this song was my favorite she's ever made before hearing it and I've heard it and it's still the best song she's ever created. The bridge is like a god speaking through the sky in thundering tongues and lightning flares. The imagery i suspected years ago of desert-y folk songs you'd look out over the desert and see an impending storm rings true, this is the calm inside a storm, it's an ignorant and threatened peace. i see nothing but rainless storms and sharp winds light by the invincible glow of candlelight. Yosemite is immaculate, a highlight, and a mission statement for the record. It couldn't be without Chemtrails and Chemtrails couldn't be without Yosemite. She wasn't quite at yosemite in 2017, and being able to confidently proclaim enough that she could put a song about doing things for free on a record bookended with a memoir about making art for free, and a collaborative homage to a song about lovingly observing others making art for free is quite powerful. Her never mentioning Yosemite in the lyrics is powerful Yosemite being the only 1-word song on this album is powerful. She's so powerful, and so very realized

Pre-Pre-Release Threads are typically created once there's an indication than an album is in the works! According to her recent MusicWeek interview, there's one (maybe even two) in the works! Usually this doesn't happen so quickly (except for NFR) but because there is indication and another Pre-Pre-Release thread was highly requested, it will arrive in an hour or two so everyone can have fun in this thread for awhile. Pre-Release Threads come once there's a confirmed title or release date, which could be awhile. & I can't wait to show you all the new theme! There's a few things I need to adjust and I'm waiting on my design partners to wake up to help me skkkk. But I think you guys will really love it! I'm already using it on my account and.. it's so pretty

I was expecting worse from Pitchfork. Her highest score before NFR was 7.7, so this is just back to normal for her. Which is fine, considering they basically low key called her an Evangelical Christian Republican racist without specifically saying it.

My husband was really looking forward to hearing Lana’s take on For Free and after I played it for him he said he liked it but whoever sang the second verse was the weakest of the three and I had to tell him that one was Lana

omg i feel like if reviewers have nothing new to say then they should just not review it even the good ones...every single one is like “for better or worse this is definitely a Lana Del Rey album the whole thing is about the 1950s and 20th century America and wealth and opulence and drugs and sugar daddies yup that’s all she sings about but she’s good at it now but we still hate her but Joni Mitchell inspired her now instead of hip hop so yes it’s good but she still sucks! 8/10” like CAN YOU COME UP WITH SOMETHING ELSE

The bridge in Dance Till We Die is legitimately brilliant. I’d kill for an entire album with this energy.

The record is really lovely, and feels more introspective and special than NFR. Overall I appreciate the album is really pushing her boundaries and she is experimenting with things she hasn’t done before. The whispering vocals on White Dress, the autotune on Tulsa Jesus Freak, the choral patch in Yosemite, and the very long phrasing in Wild at Heart are the things that really jump out as ‘something new’. They’re hardly ground-breaking but combined with the demure sound she’s occupying they feel really fresh. I really appreicate it in her body of work. My favourites are White Dress, Chemtrails Over the Country Club, Not All Those Who Wander are Lost and Yosemite. The only thing I dislike about this album is the standard edition artwork, but there is the alt cover and hundreds of great fan edits to chose from.
