bby we need to unlearn the association between women owning their sexuality/expressing desire and a lack of virtue or "quality"

well, we all have our opinions on things of that matter, personally, i really don't care to see lana's boobs every other day, however, it's 100% her choice to share photos of her body as much as she'd like to, some people like to be modest, some people like to show off more of their bodies, everybody has their own preference, she's still worthy of respect regardless of what she decides to post, & it isn't like she's never been nude or revealing for photoshoots before, so this isn't 100% something different for her

"Lana’s music did not just reflect the desire to numb oneself, it also offered a dreamscape for the era’s disaffected youth: drawn in by its monochrome shades of beauty, the nostalgia for an America that no longer existed (if it ever did), the siren allure of total submission to a lover, maybe even death." I like that summary a lot. Also:

some of you are doing too much on her, as usual. she's exuding confidence, her skin is glowing, hair looks healthy, titties out and she'll continue wearing shein dresses and yoga pants to important events and i love that for her.

I want her to retire her dancers in general... They were cute for a minute but I think that they distract too much from her and she doesn't put as much effort into her singing when she's too busy doing choreography. I want her shows to be more like they were in 2012-2015. Just her and her voice.

why are you trying to make it an "ego" problem when she's just feeling confident in showing a little skin? 2 paragraphs of sugarcoating when you could basically call her a slut and it would make your point even clearer

not to be rude or ageist or whatever but you're a 40+ year old man thinking his opinion on what women do with their bodies matters, grown ass man on Lanaboards talking about some "when she posts something raunchy her quality/class drops" "Humans are decent and well-bred creatures" like pls you're So pathetic and weird lol like genuinely..

People need to stop judging others for showing their bodies. Humans are beautiful and sexual creatures, if Lana wants to flaunt her titties that is absolutely her right. We should be admiring the fact that she feels confident and sexy in her own skin

Let me keep my mouth shut because I'm worried I'll lose my warning point virginity otherwise Just know that if you're a man who comes on this site and talks about what women should and shouldn't be doing with their bodies, you're fucking sexist, point blank.

How is her posting an underboob picture on Instagram and making an OnlyFans joke any different than literally any part of Tropico or when she moves her skirt up a bit on stage while dancing? That's not to say one is worse than the other because that's straight up not true, but it's nothing new for her, and I don't know what would be making it different now. Lana being confident in her body doesn't take away from her value as an artist or a person.

100% agreed! i imagine it might be hard though bc she has such a close friendship w her dancers. but yeah - i hope she really considers the atmosphere and vibe she wants to create for her new shows. a focus on vocal performance and her band would ofc be a dream

Yes and tbh Alex and Ashley don't really fit with the singer/songwriter vibes of her past two albums Like what are they realistically gonna dance to? DBJAG maybe but for most of the other songs it just wouldn't work imo

"Largely misunderstood by critics upon its initial release, Born to Die was ahead of its time. Blending genres like hip-hop and rock ’n roll, merging orchestral riffs with beats pulled from rap music, Lana layered flowery, breathily-intoned lyrics inspired by classic literature in a husky, sexy voice to complete her fusion. She sang uniquely of heartbreak, love lost and the murky depths of abuse..." That is the same person that accused Lana of overlooking the gentrification of New York in Brooklyn Baby. Ngl her hypocrisy is funny.
  26. 13 likes
Not going to preface this with an “I’m sorry, but…” because I am in no way apologetic, but Iman Sultan writing that article is hypocritical. You do not get to act like Born to Die’s tenth anniversary celebration is something you can partake in when less than a year ago, you were vilifying her lyricism to suit your fake-woke agenda. You were part of the witch-hunt at its peak.

adding onto this: not owning sexuality/not expressing desire also doesn't make women less valuable either both are equally valid

National Anthem was ahead of its time while speaking to lost time. Legend things — one of her most brilliant tracks. Lyrically, it’s genius, and the overall atmosphere is luxe to the nth degree.

i guess this is an unpopular opinion within itself but i could honestly care less if lana posed completely nude because that's her body and she has the right to feel comfortable in it regardless of other people's opinions the only downside is that elle wouldn't be able to post it here cause of adsense
  34. 12 likes
i get what you're saying but she should be free to post whatever she wants without fearing that people will think is dirty or sexual in a bad way, i mean isn't that one of the key parts of feminism?

This thread is obviously just for fun. 1. PRE-HISTORIC PERIOD, MMV—MMX Early experiments and drafts. Some ideas were taken and/or perfected afterwards. Themes of love, innocence and loneliness. Notable works: "Yayo", "Pawn Shop Blues", "Kill Kill", among others. 1. Lana Del Ray a.k.a. Lizzy Grant Simple, bright compositions, focused on mood and melody rather than words. Recurrent colors: yellow, orange, white and black. 2. CLASSICAL PERIOD, MMXI—MMXV The original Lana Del Rey sound. Known for its emphasis on visuals, aesthetics and vocals. Image often more important than meaning. Themes of doomed love, drugs, mystery, desire, status, sadness and death. Notable works: "Video Games", "Born to Die", "Summertime Sadness", "Blue Jeans", "Young and Beautiful", "Ride", "West Coast", among others. a. Baroque Era 1. Born to Die 2. Paradise "The Baroque style is characterized by exaggerated motion and clear detail used to produce drama, exuberance, and grandeur. Baroque iconography was direct, obvious, and dramatic, intending to appeal above all to the senses and the emotions." Recurrent colors: blue, red, white and gold. b. Romantic Era 1. Ultraviolence "Individualistic, emotional and dramatic; A turn towards the mystic; a focus on the nocturnal, ghostly and terrifying; discontent with formulas and conventions; the use of new or previously not so common structures; a greater tonal range." Recurrent colors: black, grey, white and red. 3. MODERN PERIOD, MMXV—MMXVII Also known as the Retrofuturism era. A shift towards the latest sounds and visuals. Known for mixing the old and new, inclusion of different collaborators, abstract concepts and synthetic production. Themes of self-discovery, escapism, the future and the world. Notable works: "Love", "Cherry", "High By The Beach", "Get Free", among others. "Diverse reactions in challenging and reinterpreting older categories of music, innovations that led to new ways of organizing and approaching harmonic, melodic, sonic, and rhythmic aspects of music, and changes in aesthetic worldviews [...] Its leading feature is a 'linguistic plurality', which is to say that no one music genre ever assumed a dominant position." a. Early Retrofuturism / Minimalism 1. Honeymoon Total emphasis on voice. Abstract ideas. Older sounds from the Baroque Era subtly mixed with newer trends. Recurrent colors: light blue, red, lilac and green. b. Retrofuturism 1. Lust for Life "Retrofuturism may be summarized as the future as seen from the past and the past as seen from the future." Continuation of the previous sound but more emphasis on new-fashioned production. Subtle political discourse. Recurrent colors: red, white, blue and green. 4. CONTEMPORARY PERIOD, MMVXIII—present Also known as the Singer-Songwriter Era. The new Lana Del Rey sound. Known for its humorous, poetic lyricism and stripped-back production. Elimination of older ideas, images and sentiments in turn of newer, more personal interests. Emphasis on words and musicality. Themes of everyday life, adulthood, trauma, sociocultural issues, friendship and family. Notable works: "The greatest", "Venice Bitch", "Hope Is A Dangerous Thing", "Mariners Apartment Complex", "White Dress", "Dealer", "LA Who Am I to Love You", among others. a. Postmodernism 1. Norman Fucking Rockwell! "Is, on some level, ironic; challenges barries between high and low; shows disdain of the often unquestioned value of structural unity; considers music as relevant to cultural, social and political contexts; includes references to music of many traditions and cultures; considers technology as a way to preserve and transmit music; embraces contradictions; presents multiple meanings." Known as "The album of the end of the world" due to its apocalyptic nature. Recurrent colors: blue, red, white, neon green and brown. b. Postminimalism 1. Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass 2. Chemtrails Over the Country Club "Postminimalist works are usually everyday objects, use simple materials, and sometimes take on a pure, formalist aesthetic. Steady pulse, general evenness of dynamics, without strong climaxes or nuanced emotionalism." Vastly interested in escapism and existentialism. Recurrent colors: white, black, grey, green and orange. c. Casualism 1. Blue Banisters 2. Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd "A new type of postminimalism that features a self-amused, anti-heroic style. Interested in a studied, passive-aggressive irresoluteness that reflect wider insights about culture and society. Works might appear unfinished or incomplete, intentionally awkward, physically fragile and unstable, rejecting the display of conventional skills." Notable for the random, unpolished nature of its lyricism, composition and vocal styles. Recurrent colors: blue, brown, beige and yellow.

Me, IanadeIrey, defending the real Lana Del Rey:

She really represents the absolute worst kind of journalism. Someone with no opinion of their own who is willing to jump on the bandwagon and write about anything, with no consideration of the damage that writing can cause. Last year it was trendy to jump on Lana for everything she did, so she wrote something so destructive and unfair. Yesterday it was cool to praise Born To Die, so she gives Lana a glowing review. I still don't think I've recovered from the stupidity of her take on Brooklyn Baby LOL

I think that a lot of writers tend to just go with whatever the popular opinion is, and since people were celebrating BTD's anniversary positively, Iman hopped on the bandwagon

it's crazy to me how she already gets called old at 35... do people expect women to die at 40? she has literally lived 43% of the US life expectation of women

Performance wise, she peaked in 2012/13. Not every performance was golden but the ones that were good were godly. The voice, her vocal styling, the outfits, the atmosphere, the musical arrangements, etc... were perfection. She'll never top the performances of that era

Flu vocals? That’s just her voice? Please listen to No Angel again lmao

Literally what the hell...?!?! Charlis vocals are not in a single way flu vocals... She sounded extremely good and y'all just can't accept that she tried a different style of singing instead of screaming in an autotuned microphone, like??? The slandering for NOTHING AND NOTHING. The bitterness...

I'm never letting her live the Brooklyn Baby thing down, there's a line between being critical of an artist and just straight up making zero sense. The song isn't even about Brooklyn itself

i see where you're coming from, but when people feel confident & happy with their appearances & bodies, they sometimes want to show their body, they feel confident & attractive with themselves, i think it's natural, i love how i look & i can understand it, we all just express it in different ways, being confident doesn't necessarily mean you want to take revealing photos & share them to the world, i do agree, that people are a lot more than their appearences, or how sexy they are, i think we should focus more on people, especially women, for who they are, their talents, skills, & individuality, rather than just focusing on how sexy they are, we live in a very objectified society & it's still a huge issue for women, even men, because our society is so looks-based & it can lead to objectification, people not feeling beautiful, & a negative sense of vanity, but that doesn't mean it's anybody's fault because they felt comfortable in their own skin, some people like looking at it, some people don't, it's a complicated subject, whether or not you agree with lana's recent post doesn't really change the fact that she has the right to post it & she shouldn't be shamed for it, i'm just trying to offer you a different perspective, because we all come from different cultures & backgrounds, & sometimes they can clash & cause a conflict if we believe it isn't correct, i think a lot of issues in general have multiple sides & truths to them
