MARINA (and The Diamonds)
TRENCH and 10 others liked a post in a topic by vrtvie
It would be nice to finally get a thorough album review that would do justice to our beloved Electra Heart. I kinda feel like everyone misses the whole social commentary, the cultural inspirations, and the Greek mythology references. Everyone seems to focus merely on its impact on teenage girls and Tumblr now (still better than the 2012 omg-she-changed-her-sound-and-it's-atrocious rhethoric), while the amount of thought taken to developing this concept album is insane. This record does already feel like reading a book and I still cannot comprehend why Marina's so reluctant to prove her point; I know she was devastated after commercial failure and critics' flashback, but she should've seen them coming. The Metacritic score is a crime on humanity and proves that patriarchic society we live in was not ready for that and seems not to be to this very day. I have no words for the people who praised Charli XCX's Crash but hated Marina for her sellout persona invented a decade earlier. Hypocrates. -

9 likesI wonder if Lana would ever go live somewhere where the first language is Spanish, doesn't have to necessarily be Spain but somewhere in South America. I do think change of scenery can be such an inspiration, and Lana takes so much from her environment and her experiences in those environments. from Lake Placid to NYC and now LA, she has produced some of her best, but i would love to see her somewhere else in my life time. ALSO, i would loveeeeeee for Lana to do something more kitch and campy like Lolita(i know i know, still a fucking bomb ass song) and This is what makes us girls (FUCKING BOP), i use to not really get or admire those kind of Lana songs, but fuck they are something else. IDK i just want something spunky, Lana is such a young soul. Like i expect myself to still be free and have a young mentally even at 30-40-50 etc. And it seems to me that she's that way too FUCK im itching for SOMETHING, just a snippet or picture of her at a music video set SOMETHING. THANK GOD shes still posting on insta. Lana thots during my teams meeting xoxo

This is what I expect productionwise from her... btw it's produced by CJ Baran and Mel posted a story with him earlier this year so we might be winning -
9 likesIf she is entering a midlife state of mind, as she is actually entering midlife, and wants to keep cats, walk home from the mall, and watch TV, it may not matter much where she is. I could actually see Lana living in a semi-rural environment, as Joni Mitchell did for much of the 70s, constantly going back and forth from LA to isolated parts of Canada and singing about “fresh salmon frying and the tide rolling in,” and “the arbutus rustling.” If Lana follows the trend of so many musical artists, she’ll continue to record but will also crave midlife calm, isolation, and serenity ( and perhaps marriage and children), and then, about 50, want to return to the spotlight in a big way, pretend she never left or had a slightly diminished career, and try to impress everyone with a ‘youthful’ sound and physical appearance. This is not a condemnation, but simply something I’ve seen happen over and over.

Honestly I think K-12 wasn't really that bad. Of course the production and the themes kind of killed it a bit, but considering the whole visual project i think she made a good job, since it was her first time also. Of course Cry baby was on another level, but I think K-12 needed to happen in order to grow and then move on, like she's about to do for the next project. We know for a fact that she's CAN write good lyrics, explore darker themes and such things so I'm not worried at all. I also think the allegations played a good part in how she ended up releasing the project, she had a lot going on i guess. Anyway, we'll see in the future... I'm really hopeful. -

Let's be real: Cry baby is the only album that mattered in Melanie discography and it still does. Although After School EP is a decent project, I will pretend that K-12 never hapened. The intention of it all & the effort & her vision for this era i will still appreciate but thats pretty much about it. She just did not executed these ideas well. It felt she was trying too hard to be that typical sjw with all of that forcing wokeness all over the "fuck" lyrics every 5 second - which is a major problem with her songwriting in this era - she sounds like a 12 year-old who has just discovered how to cuss. (Even if this is her intention to portray "Cry Baby" it still sounds wack) meanwhile, her debut album literally serving sharp-pen in lyrical content. I hope she ditch this crybaby thing already, she cant make this her brand forever. It looks like Marina trying to milk Electra Heart for the whole past decade. -

5 likesI know she will never do this but... She should just pull a Jim Morrison (without the tragic ending) and move to Paris and come up with a new outlook on her music and poetry. As much as I enjoyed her last three albums, feels like her artistic tendencies are on a route to repetition and living in LA doesn't seem to help either. These are just the ramblings of a fan though, in the end it's her life and art.

Slut poop not only killed her career but is nowhere near the excellence that is Clarity, which is also the last time she still had majority of the gays on board with her despite everything. Her retconning Clarity from album -> mixtape was the final nail in the coffin.
