The Right Person Will Stay - Pre-Release Thread (OUT: May 21st, 2025)

This being produced by the same team that did Ocean Blvd gives me hope that Zodiac will be on it. From what we've heard this album's gonna be lighter and more toned down but at the end of the day Lana did almost put Dealer on COCC so like...

Not seeing Rick Nowels in the producers lists kinda broke my heart though </3 My Honeymoon heart always hoped that he will come back at least for one song, even an unreleased one...

it looks like she’s been gathering country songs for the past few years (nothing on blue banisters and ocean blvd is country, but we know she’s been wanting to put out a country album for like 4 years), so the record as it was in january was quite country-oriented, and since then it was a changed a bit there are probably some southern gothic elements to it now, but overall what we know about it isn’t contradictory. melodic songs, an Americana flair, less personal lyrics, it all sounds good to me :oprah3: i can’t wait to find out if loved you then and now is on the tracklist

Honestly I do wanna see a whole American Songbook-esque album with a Lana twist and knowing her she would so pull it off. Henry... might not be a production feat but it sure is catchy as hell! :true: The snippet has never left my mind and i'm so freaking happy it's seeing the light of day, interesting choice for a lead single though. With that being said, I hope we get the song soon and at least the pre order so we could get a hint of the album's true visuals so we could speculate

i would loooove for the fenway song to be the opener of this album :legend: in my mind the album opens w/ the fenway song and is followed by a bunch of cool tracks that are aligned with the somewhat chaotic energy of the fenway track summing up the wild ride that is her fame/success/life over the past two years since OB. then, RBFY comes along as a sweet little interlude before the title track, which is at the heart of the album. the rest of the songs focus more on the simple joys of love and married life - not to say they're boring or all just cute ballads, but that the overall lyrical theme and sentiment is more "the right person will stay and im happy and this love is my peace within the chaos of everything". just my lil dream and my way of figuring out how a track as stripped back and simple as Henry could be on the same album as that crazy dramatic fenway opener :teehee:

Your ear and mine hear very different things. It's a matter of personal aesthetic, not fact.

I rate OB very low, with the what seems to me like a silly opening to The Grants, the pointless interludes—the one on BB is no better—the redundant songs (Fishtails, Sweet, The Grants), the maudlin title track, the strained vocals on Grandfather, the wanna-be-hip A&W, the many-times bettered Candy Necklace, and the muffled sound on Let the Light In (among others).

I hear BB as clear, controlled, straight forward, and honest—though I don't care for the BB title track—a monument to and from a strong woman who knows who she is and is in control of her life--while I hear OB as the opposite of that.

If you like Blue Banisters more that's okay! I've always defended the album and think it's underrated. But some of the criticisms you point out on Ocean Blvd are also true for Blue Banisters- Living Legend, NOTG, and Cherry Blossom are terrible quality, the ending of Wildfire Wildfire is muddled, the production on Thunder is layered on top of the demo- you can here some of it in the background. These things are fact not just personal aesthetic.

Thematically they are similar: heartbreak, family, and legacy.

My personal opinion, and this is entirely opinion, she does not come off as strong on Blue Banisters. To me she comes off as wanting to an appear as strong, and tell the "haters" to F off, and unbothered, but it doesn't come across that way. In a way it kind of humanizes her. In Ocean Blvd I think she drops the mask a little bit and it seems like she knows she's bothered, she wants her flowers, but she's not being very whiny/demanding, it's very vulnerable and real- again humanizing. Again this is just opinion!

Yes, the 'downloaded from Youtube rips' are a big problem on BB, but when I think of the album, I think largely of the new songs or older songs like IYLDWM that are presented for the first time. To me, Arcadia, BBS, IYLDWM, Textbook, WFWF, and VFR are all statements of a strong, independent woman in control of her own life while acknowledging her suffering. I vastly preferred the guitar version of Thunder.

It remains to be seen which Lana will manifest on the new album, and what it will sound like sonically. Maybe it will be a new or unrecognizable Lana altogether. Tough received, it seems to me, a ho-hum response, and didn't really point to a specific direction, and we don't know for a fact that it will be on the album. If we do get another single this year, hopefully it will provide some insight.

The mixing quality on both albums is bad in different ways, but one isn't worse than the other. Even though the execution of sound could be better on both, I think the production/soundscape on Blue Banisters is better. Ocean Blvd is very soft, piano-heavy, and relies on multiple samples of ambient artists like AK and SYML. The interludes are unnecessary, and the song structure on the album is lacking. Long intros and outros means less substance, making the album feel a little like there's too much filler and not enough Lana. On Blue Banisters, the production is stronger and bolder (aside from a couple songs like the title track). The piano-heavy songs are still fuller than Ocean Blvd's, with warm and acoustic instrumentation. The addition of the UV outtakes may be lazy, but I think they work perfectly on the album and don't stand out at all. The album feels cohesive, and I think its only downfall is the actual mixing and sound quality. Thematically, I don't really think she comes off as "strong" on either album. Both albums are her two most vulnerable ones in her discography; however, Ocean Blvd just deals with heavier topics in a more free-verse, poetry style, stream of consciousness type of lyricism, while the songwriting on Blue Banisters seems a little more polished and traditional overall.
