John Ehmann said Larry should listen to a demo called "Diet Mtn Dew" by an artist named Lana, who Sony just passed on. Larry loved it! says he met Lana 2 months after he himself moved to Los Angeles. she came in looking like she had walked off the set of the BTD album cover! Lol. he was enthralled by her. Says the night before she signed w/Interscope, she got a deal from SONY UK for 2 times as much money, and she said No! and signed the next day with Interscope !!!! (our queen) Larrys says lana means so much to him and Interscope. He says at that point he was willing to help her do anything to help her artistic vision come to life (especially understanding that 2 times amount Sony offered was a big deal to a artist trying to make ends meet) He says she told him she wanted to be "Gangsta Nancy Sinatra" and he was sold! Ed/Ben/Lana signed officially and INterescope helped them make BTD with Emile Haynie and Justin Parker. BTD cost only $183,000. says he got an idea to write a letter to Jimmy Iovine to send to Lorne Michael of SNL about getting Lana on. Discussed how being an A&R is about believing in the vision when no one else does. Says the Brian Williams article was very hurtful to him and to lana (bc at the time Brian Williams was a respected journalist - which is funny now because he got fired and lost journalistic integrity for fabricating a story about jumping out of a plane in the Iraq war in 2003 _ LOL did "did anyone else die for you") Larry talks a bit more about how she and Chief Keef at such important musical figures who have shaped music and provided a breath of fresh air to a time of stagnant music. Larry says he felt extremely motivated after SNL and so did Lana.

I think it was touched on like once in the past a very long time ago I mentioned it in a thread 2 months ago so this is so cool to know that it hasn't been a forgotten fact... though a little misleading because though she wasn't signed with Sony, she had a deal with them and had a lot of sessions under them (late 2010-mid 2011), I believe this was just for her to work more and bring new music into them to potentially sign her but they weren't feeling anything she was doing. Then Video Games blew up and Sony probably wanted to sign her then but she was like nah and went to Interscope There was a guy at Sony who was in love with Lana (thought she was hot) and opened up closed studios just for her to record free stuff queen shit...

I was so gagged at all the love and nominations and mentions that I needed to take some time to think of how to respond, campaign, etc..... i truly thought i had entered my Kardashian era here on LB in the sense that I feel like overexposed and loud and annoying sometimes. almost as if the thought of posting meant people would see it and be like "ohhhhh brother this guy again?!??!" Maybe that's bc i spent a good portion of the year on Mod Queue..... BUT! I love Chemtrails. It got me through some really tough shit. I remember living in a hotel at the time (had broken with my bf of 5 years), and the album dropped, and I was listening to it in bed and White Dress literally brought tears to my eyes. Is it her best album? No. Is it her shortest? Yet. Is it the most cohesive? Kinda! This is a quiet record, but the production is on-point, and all the songs go well together thematically and sonically. Also, Chemtrails (the single) is one of her best this decade, and Wild at Heart is MEGA UNDERRATED. My only issue is that it feels incomplete (For Free and Breaking Up Slowly are clearly filler tracks, and the album needed a few more great songs).

Same. I get the feeling a lot of fans don't listen to it front-to-back but every time I do I'm always taken aback at how tranquil, calming, and peaceful of a listen it is. It's a special album to me. Lots of travel, existentialism, longing... I get the feeling TRPWS is going to be in the same vein, honestly, and I'm okay with that (pls keep Tough AWAY). Honestly, I've been pretty shocked at how much dust Lana pays the Chemtrails album considering it seems to be the most fitting to where she is in her life currently (LMLYLAW, Wild at Heart, NAWWAL, etc). Long story short, I think Chemtrails was marred by the COVID era and the turbulence Lana was feeling in her life at the time. Question for the Culture and the vitriol she was met with couldn't actually be further from the sound and vibe of the album we received.

I'm glad that the album only has 13 songs. Albums with fewer songs tend to be more consistent, to have a more coherent sound. Fewer interludes, fewer well-known unreleased songs or fillers. But she has also said that the album will not be ‘half-cooked’, so it will probably be polished. But we also know that there's always something for everyone on her albums. I think it will become another milestone, an album that will be enjoyed for many years to come.

I see you but i think Ocean Blvd really gave us a nice diversity, we got some ballads, some beats and even some gospel. I think it’s probably my favorite album right now so for me an acoustic album would feel nice and refreshing after the sounds we got from Ocean But I think we should just wait and see what she has for us, that “Mirror” song really sounds promising and maybe she has something else with that style on the album

I'm glad someone considered this. Chemtrails is simple, short, but it works and is very round. I find it very interesting. It has this COVID-era seclusion feel, like if you were taking refuge on a ranch, you put it on at night and listen to it while you watch a fireplace crackle. Lana had been flirting with country for a while now, but she didn't feel ready to embrace the genre once and for all and sound like a caricature. So, I like Chemtrails, because, even though it is predominantly folk, it has this nod to the country in a safe way, without forcing it to make Lana have an identity that is not hers. So I was excited about Lasso because it felt like an extension of Chemtrails. Now, I don't know what he's really going to be. I only know one thing: saying that it will be bad because it resembles Chemtrails is untrue.
