A&W to Judah to Candy Necklace is some of the most Lynchian work she's ever done. She channeled him so hard with this run. Blue Velvet indeed, the seediness of what's below a pristine surface. A young girl cartwheeling, the preacher preaching, and the Candy man himself. But the girl is in danger, the preacher is shouting, and the the Candy necklaces don't taste right.

me needing to take a moment to cry to this album again

NFR is indie rock with surf rock elements here and there. It’s quite cohesive and sunny-sounding throughout. Chemtrails leans heavily on indie folk and its sonority suggests a more autumnal aesthetic. That the GP still manages to affirm these two albums sound the exact same is completely mind boggling to me. Their themes are different and the soundscapes diverge to different genres (although sharing similar sensibilities) but people took Jack Antonoff producing both albums and WAH sampling HTD and ran with it.

I’m kinda shook at how often I find myself intentionally seeking out Fingertips and on top of that in the weirdest moments: when I want to concentrate, when I do cardio, when I get ready, etc. The hold this song has on me is unreal especially because I really didn’t like it at first listen but it really is top tier girls I hope you all see that soon if you don’t already

I personally LOVE "taco truck x vb" I think the way the two blend is so satisfying to my ears and with the: Get High Drop Acid Never Die Not Tonight Lake Placid ... it reminds me of the "live fast die young in RIDE monologue" and this album has so many little "moments" or "allusions" to her past work, so it isn't really lazy in my opinion. in fact its more noticeable to us as a fan than just a general public ear. AND when I first heard it I was like wondering why ... and several possibilities abound of course so someone should ask her..... but - I wonder if maybe whoever the lover was during NFR (the Chase actor guy? mystery San Fran man no one photographed her with she mentioned in rolling stone?) maybe she wrote Venice Bitch around that man & this new "reworked version" is her sort of reclaiming it in a way ?? regardless its an iconic 9 min song... so because it is such an iconic song, maybe its her way of musically speaking to the old lover like "nah, this is no longer about you... im not jealous of YOU & not jealous of not having Your Love" ? idk I sorta saw it as reclaiming the song in a way like her stabbing metaphorically her old lover from his vanity of knowing the song was about him and it's not about him anymore. she's moved on. gone scorched earth? met a new boyfriend at a taco truck??? ending the album more upbeat here and lighter/trappier/fun and getting high in the garden being a baddie vibe idk it just makes sense to me.... of course theres a million other reasons and only lana knows

The latest: Basically, she's had the green light to release Masochism for years but she refused to because Capitol didn't want to do a big roll out for it. At least we have confirmation about that theory now.

My thoughts on this are that this album is the rawest, the most sincere, the most personal thing she has ever put out. There’s so much to relate to or to think about, whether it be family themes, trauma, love, loss, friendship, observing the world, evolving, building one’s life. It’s just so heartfelt and this is why the vast majority of us love it. In 2021, literally none of those 80 minutes existed and she managed to craft them all. It’s incredible because of how much emotion there is in every single minute of that record, it’s incredible to think all of this could have never been created and it still was. I think it’s not moving in the exact same way as her older work was, because I think what she used to do was simpler and maybe more directly impactful so it got more to the point: I think the structures were more clearly delineated, the melodies too, the lyrics were less enigmatic, there was definitely more world-building, and I miss this older style too sometimes. It’s hard to explain, but I think we can all agree she doesn’t make songs like Old Money or Dragonslayer anymore, without being able to pin down what it is exactly there used to be and there can’t be anymore. But her new music has a lot of qualities and I think more of us will be glad she took that path when the undeserved Chemtrails / Blue Banisters hate fades away. I personally hope she’s going to continue to explore whatever she feels like exploring because I’ve been satisfied with and deeply moved by all of her albums. I would also love for her to go back to her lower register, to starting electric guitars again, or to do songs that have bridges with a different chord progression than the verses (an element that used to really enrich the songs up until the Honeymoon era), but I think it’s important to realize the worth of what we got and to be thankful for it and for the unique path she has taken. There’s so much we got (including her unreleased work) and so much that we’re going to get and we can not even imagine yet.

i already pointed out that most of the songs couldn't have been recorded in the same sessions as nfr bc they're attached to relationships/friendships that she didn't have during the recording of nfr. but even still, i don't find nfr & chemtrails similar at all. i feel like people who say that aren't paying attention to the music at all.

Honestly, is there any objective way to tell what her best album is, or which is most loved, most valued, most underrated, most overpraised, most decried? We know that NFR! received the most critical praise from the music establishment, but other than that, there's just a cacophony of Stan and fan voices shouting, arguing and disagreeing all over the internet. And that includes us here.

Almost a month after release and I can say I still love this album The "fresh release" momentum has passed, so the initial hype isn't there anymore and I have a more clear idea of what I like and what I don't. The album for me is very strong, lyrically, vocally and also sonically. I love that Lana managed to get intimate without sacrificing the production. You can go vulnerable and still have a great, powerful production to back the lyrics up I could not possibly rank the tracks, as I'm constantly re-discovering a new track to get obsessed with. But I don't feel the need to change much about the album which is honestly good! I'm so very pleased with the final product. I am extremely grateful Lana delivered a wonderful 15-track album 🩷 I cannot wait to see where she goes next!

honestly when i listen to this album its like time melts away and i wonder where the last hour and 20 minutes went once its done. like even honeymoon and norman feel longer to me and i really love those ones so its not like they feel extra long or anything.

the title track is top 10 in her discography for me, i literally have no words for how much emotion and subtlety there is in every single note it contains. never in her discography have i seen such a beautiful instrumental build-up. the melody and the lyrics are magnificent. it’s one of her strongest songs and to me it’s really unique because of the vocals, the backup singers and the lyrics… i mean even after her vocals end and there’s only the instrumental, it’s still so strong and moving…

Well Ocean Blvd is definitely a career-defining album.

1- i'd say outside of lanaboards, hm isn't a very popular album, at least not in the same way btd, uv, & nfr are 2- lana didn't work with jack at all on bb. it was like half drew erickson and half zach dawes who were both new for her 3- cotcc & bb are only really hated on lanaboards

i feel like taco truck x vb is a lot more enjoyable if you think of it kind of like a venice bitch part 2. like its not meant to improve or replace venice bitch or be a lazy cop-out but like a continuation, a sequel song. idk if that's how she meant it to be but its always how i've seen it. especially with how after all her soul searching and wanderlust of not just this album but her past few albums (i'd say since violet), she's returned to home venice, california (like she mentions in paris, texas) so like our little venice bitch is back.

LDR.fm was a lana forum before lanaboards that was only up for like half a year, the owner (I forgot her name) was someone involved with the first laptop/email hack, she had a zip of songs that we all know and love today that she shared with a group of lana listeners after finding them on last.fm, this group then became the mods on LDR.fm after the owner created the forum. they used the forum to leak these songs, they would do tinychat radio shows and drop the mp3s. most, if not everything, that leaked in 2012 came from them via this way. i think in july 2012, the forum suddenly went offline never to come back. the owner disappeared, most people assumed she got arrested or hugely threatened. the songs from her zip continued being shared around, finding its way to random tumblrs who leaked the rest in 2013-14. a few years ago someone tracked down the owner of ldr.fm and had an interview with them, it was shared here briefly but i don't know if the post is still up. the owner kinda confirmed lana's team probably threatened or took legal action against her and she had to disappear and never mention lana again. a lot of ldr.fm users like evilentity, myself, trash magic etc. migrated to lanaboards. the ldr.fm mods kept popping up every now and then to continue leaking stuff, most notably the 2015 reddit leaker. from chatting with him, it didn't seem like they had much music left to leak but moreso live footage/recordings and visuals.

The way Alone actually had a Lot of hit potential. That chorus sounded very promising. People (especially on TikTok) are craving an early 2010s pop type song, and with a Pink Friday type Nicki verse on it it could’ve been huge. But instead she decided to go for this very dated and tired sound. That latest snippet literally sounds like Jay Park’s act of musical terrorism on Unlock It. Perhaps not as bad, but definitely not good or exciting in any way. Maybe the song will still be big cause of the sample and Nicki verse, but that new snippet is just not it. It would be kind of embarrassing if she were to still flop after selling out this badly. I wish her luck I guess.

I think it’s interesting that people who normally don’t like Lana that much seem to like this album more than her previous work. It’s even her second highest rated album by users on sites like RYM and AOTY. I would think that this album is one of her most challenging ones to get through for casual listeners.
