33 likesI just don't understand what's so difficult to wrap one's head around the concept that Lana releases music for herself and for music, not to release the biggest "chart smash" or to appease others and that's okay. The fact that she continues to go the less obvious route by releasing The Grants instead of something like Taco Truck should be the most glaring example of that

26 likesLet's review the clues he gave us... “personally I’m happy as fuck” Weird, but ok. "I jumped when I learnt the news so let's get the hype going!" Valid response to jail time, just not getting the hype. "The album is not surprise dropping tonight and none of y'all are guessing it right, just wait" Literally nobody guessed it. "there is no surprise second album, or any new music project coming already" "No, this is something not related to any Ocean album tracks" Maybe not from Lana, but maybe Boz gets his Johnny Cash live at Folsom Prison moment. ""But for once, they are doing something right, for the fans" Ok, you're wrong for it, but i see where some of you would strongly agree here. I didn't want to believe it, but....

20 likesHow can some of y'all see a problem with everything tho... She's literally just saying she has been kissing that person so she probably got it too, how in the world is that disrespectful? I doubt people in 2023 are going to drag her for that, literally no one will care except for the 10 woke twitter users as always

20 likesThe Grants isn’t a bad single choice, they just wanted to show how versatile this album (and Lana) is. Ben and Ed posted a picture of the album with these captions: “new ldr song, ‘the grants’ , a different world from A&W but another piece of beautiful songwriting from a special album coming March 24 […]”. / “Beautiful new song ‘The Grants’ out now. Demostrating how diverse and inventive this record is @/honeymoon is incomparable”.

20 likesthe back to back Rocky Mountain High John Denver & Don't Forget Me Harry Nilsson interpolations are so brilliant, the synergy of it all there is the overarching/general theme of memory which ties it all together but then she tackles two separate thoughts on it in each track: remembering vs forgetting, specifically: wanting n choosing to keep the memories of her loved ones VS. fearing they won't (want to) keep theirs of her & sonically, it's also beautifully paralleled in the way "like Rocky Mountain high, the way John Denver sings" & "Don't forget me" both get echoed throughout the entire songs in their choruses but build bigger & turn into something grand towards/by the end, of course with the help of her talented background vocalists. there's something very symbolic in that too i think, like these are such important things to her (remembering her loved ones/being remembered by them) that she can't help but get louder & almost "shout" it out to make her point undoubtedly clear. it's very passionate actually. tldr: The Grants & Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd are just such perfect sister tracks & the way by using those two 70s songs to help convey her own feelings on the matters, in turn she also made us remember/take note of them 50 years later is this sweet little bonus. i wonder if she knows that 50 years from now the world will also still be listening to hersorry for the articulation skills on level -5000

20 likesgonna ramble a bit here on the grants so just ignore and scroll pass if you don’t want to read long scattered thoughts. there is so much depth to this song oh my god it’s unbelievable. there aren’t a lot of lyrics here but the lyrics that are present convey so much meaning and so succinctly and perfectly that honestly i think any more lyrics would just muddy it. i know a lot of people don’t like it when she sings about her family and to a certain extent i get it! but i personally love it like i maybe i’m just uncultured but i don’t know any singer who touches on topics like overcoming familial and generational trauma like lana does (i guess bjork does it a little in songs like quicksand and ancestress but not as in depth as lana does). it’s so beautiful and inspiring and i really relate to it as someone overcoming my own “karmic lineage” and just trying to be a better person. trauma in a person looks like personality; trauma decontextualized in a family looks like family traits. like there’s literal proof that trauma passes down your bloodline and i’m trying really hard to heal so i don’t pass it down to my family and maybe i’m just being silly but it’s so cool to see someone like lana talk about it openly like it’s just such a brave thing to do idk. ok ramble over sorry for cluttering this thread oops

20 likesso I cried for/with tunnel. didn't w A&W, but cried again on the grants. so beautiful. she's singing about that generational trauma n tid tid tidbit on how tunnel sorta mentioned not to be forgotten, it completely built on the theme of rebirth. connected w sweet carolina from BB, to the Grants, it's like a beautiful, meaningful portrait of a world and sound.

17 likesI get what you mean in the sense that this is her first "big" album since then but I also think everything that's come since NFR are important stepping stones to reach this album, I don't think Lana was ready to explore some of the stories that she's telling now. Violet came first and was her first foray into more experimental performance, and then Chemtrails allowed her to wander the countryside aimlessly as she tried to figure out what comes next, and then Blue Banisters had her start digging into her family history. I think all of those experiences were really important for her to reach the point where she can explore her family and her life as a whole in the really theatrical and incisive way we seem to be getting on this album.
