Lorde is fun to listen to but looking back she looks soooo bad saying allat. Her criticisms about Lana mean nothing in the long run. I'm not talking about streams or success really; I'm talking about the long-lasting legacy Lana will leave behind... and Lorde's lack of it. Lana changed pop culture and has cemented herself as one of the best singer-songwriters in American history. Ultraviolence is another sound that I wish she'd return to, I admit for nostalgic reasons, but I remember hearing it for the first time and having a moment with myself and thinking, "Music can sound like this???" I was youngggg but even ten years later I really haven't heard anything like UV. Cat Power's Moonpix maybe, but there's something about UV's psychedelic production, mixing, lyrics that really nothing can compare to. And quite frankly I don't even want to listen to an album and think "Oh wow, this sounds like Ultraviolence"–– it can stand alone and be its own thing. In terms of Ocean Boulevard, I don't really know why people are convinced that her lyrics and ideas are so different from how she started. I'm gonna have a hot take here (if you disagree pls don't flame me but I've been thinking about this for a while) I think Born To Die / Paradise is a collection of songs chronicling the epitome of naiveté and youth. Her music is NO LONGER NAIVE. She's wiser. I think this is why people claim she's being pretentious in her new music... when really, I think people want her to stay young and stupid forever especially in a society that celebrates youth. She has different priorities now, and even in her more mature age, she STILL sings about those similar ideas

i remember that in the pre-release thread someone said something like ''wait until 2 weeks after the album release and then all the praise will be gone ''. and holy shit was that person right. and btw, whoever is saying she didn't do anything new in Ocean Blvd is either lying or tone-deaf.

216k sales worldwide first week. 3rd highest debut for her, only behind UV and BTD , although there is a ton of vinyl orders backlog.

Or maybe people just have different opinions? Why does everything have to be “you’re right and I’m wrong” on internet discussions these days? I’ve been a Lana fan since 2012 and Born to Die is probably literally one of my most played albums of all time. Yet, right now, Ocean Blvd is my favorite album of all time and I haven’t changed that #1 album for me since 2016. Just because Ocean Blvd doesn’t fit your tastes but it fits mine doesn’t mean you’re right and I’m wrong or vice versa. We have different opinions.

She says the following words out loud in the song: Father, Sister, Brother , Grandpa, Grandma and only thing missing is mother. it’s truly a statement.

people saying ocean blvd feels like the true follow up to norman is just like back in 2017 when people were saying lust for life felt like the true follow up to born to die. but we all know that's not true and it isn't this time either. i feel like all lana's albums have something special and important about them even if some of us don't like some of them. i don't think ocean blvd could've existed in its current form without lana getting thru chemtrails and blue banisters first.

She would use a standard album track to promote the deluxe. If we thought she hated Tunnel Vision, she despises Milk of the Sirens Also…just had a thought how Cry Baby (the song, and first track of the album) has a line about let them drown, and that’s the last line of the last track of the three album run for Cry Baby on MOTS.

Powder’s one of her best songs tbh. Def my fav off of the album next to Milk of the Siren. I can understand why the vocal effects might not be everyone’s thing but they make the song more special tbh. I love it a lot.

I’m feeling like Kintsugi might be the ultimate LDR song. It’s one of those songs like Hallelujah and Take Me Home, Country Roads, like the pinnacle of classic songwriting. That chorus is straight from God and the collective consciousness

Candy Necklace has an ethereal melody, it works really well with any kind of instrument. Can't wait for covers or remixes people come up with it: I need to hear it on flutes, strings or cello

can't believe she used the word 'daddy' again but not in the way we'd be ready for Kintsugi keeps on winning

Her post on IG stories the good news is PORTALS seems like the end of this concept/trilogy/saga, and that there can only be new beginnings from here

i love how the chorus of Grandfather has literally nothing to do with the verses, she's talking about the media and her reputation then randomly starts belting out about her dad going fishing, then goes back to the media and her reputation. it's catchy but how did we get there baby? gotta love her!

i think the pitch in powder makes it sound so emotional. it makes the song sound so lost and desperate to me it adds to the story of the lyrics. powder might be in my top 3 its so beautiful

There's not a single skip on this record but Kintsugi and A&W alone made the record worth it for existing

Anyone else hear her born to die vocals creeping in during the second part of kintsugi? i knew there was a reason i loved this song so much those vocals have so much character... it really defined her as an artist (in my mind) i need more of it in the future pleeease

alright you guys idk what happened.. but something clicked. im finally getting into melanie i downloaded all of her unreleased last week and now i’m listening to it and they’re good??? i was not expecting to like them but they’re not bad at all. so just a question - in your opinion, what are her best unreleased songs?

Cherry blossom, NOTG and living legend are cute for unreleased demos but NOT for release on an album... they should have at least been properly mixed or reworked. And despite the fact these 3 songs desperately needed reworked, she chose THUNDER which didnt even need it. Furthermore, she could have at least re-recorded the vocals for Thunder so there wouldn't be audible mic bleed from the original demo (which actually had superior production??). Overall the album features some of her worst vocal performances - so many off key and off beat moments on songs like Arcadia. The mixing on the album as a whole is appalling. Textbook , Black Bathing Suit and Wildflower Wildfire also feature dreadful percussion which totally ruin any vibe the songs had going for them. I have so many issues with Blue Banisters - definitely my LEAST favourite album Lana has ever released by a mile. I appreciate she was going for an imperfect, messier, more experimental sound but still... Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd achieved the same vibe but a million times better.

Hi all, so I'm new to Lanaboards and I just saw this thread, I'm so happy to see all of the support for meemaw, I've been a stan since Golden Age came out and I honestly think she's the next big voice in alternative music, maybe that's why she's been compared to Lana which I think is kind of ridiculous tbh. I mean Lana has been an inspiration for probably every pop/alt artist since 2012 so comparing ethel to her is basically the same as comparing Billie to Lana... If you listen to lyrics, production, aesthetic etc she's very different from lanita. On another note, I'm so happy and amazed about how quickly she became big like it's kind of insane, in December 2022 she had 90k on Insta and 500 000 monthly listeners on Spotify and now she's at 200k+ and 1.8 mil listeners. She's doing runway shows, magazine covers etc, I just know she's gonna be even bigger after all the festivals she's gonna do this summer. I'm also very interested to see how she's gonna play festivals. Her shows are so intimate, unique, she finds her strength by creating a safe bubble and connection with the public which is so different from festival shows so can't wait to see how she plays that. Also, she is the nicest human being frrrrr I've been a journalist for 2 years now and I've met and interviewed other artists and honestly she's one of the kindest I've met, I usually spend 20 min for an interview and we literally chatted for an hour she's very cool. I'm so happy we got to talk, I knew she would be big and I feel It's just the beginning Anyway, stan Ethel, stream preacher's daughter and we are NOT ready for preacher's wife, I think It could be her breakout album.

The way she phrases “honey” in Jon Batiste Interlude scratches such an itch. The album has so many ear worms
