Anyone obsessed with a certain era of a musician just because they were "skinny"/skinnier are not real fans and they're full of hate so we don't claim or accept them <3

They can’t just say “see you in September” and then leave us with summertime sadness sped up and silence

they're not lana stans, all they listen to is BTD and UV lol, and their understanding of lana's lyrics and messaging is about on par with that of her detractors much like i guess mina puts it (been a while since i watched that particular video), the "coquette" girlies are just rehashing what the "sad girls" did on tumblr ten years ago, but they're self-aware and pretending they're not, which takes all the air out of it it comes across, frankly, like when corporations and businesses put pride flags on their social media during the month of june lol basically, i think the sad girl movement was sincere, because we were a lot more naïve a decade ago, wheras this coquette trend is just commodifying this naïvety for "clout" there's a weird sort of self-importance about it, devoid of irony but all the same insisting that it's elective - a taking-back of power, not an immutable personality trait (which would still be unhealthy, like it was presented back then) but a means to define your existence, which why are you defining yourself by mary jane shoes and UO copies of UV solely as aesthetic implements, rather than what they might mean to you, what power does that actually bestow (insofar as a pair of shoes and an album sleeve can mean anything to anybody, but you get what i'm saying)

No new album info in this :/ the Don't Forget music video does briefly come up though. I'm sorry but her interviews these days are kind of annoying. At least we still get pretty shoots I guess.

I know we all like to take the piss and hound her for music she’s promised and delayed continuously but it’s so discouraging to see how defeated/reserved she is nowadays. She’s admitted to playing her own part in her career’s decline but so much of her potential was also crushed by the machine, I can’t imagine what album we’d be on by now if she was in a more respectful deal that inspired in her even a little bit of confidence on the material she makes. I guess she just says the same things in interviews hoping to gain back the little agency she’s been denied? Idk I hope people in here are at least a little more empathetic before downplaying her involvement in her own music or making fun of an addiction she’s already denied, she seems to need all the good will she can get at this stage. It’ll take a miracle to get this album out

I just really really wish people like that would leave her alone bru. it shows the type of fan they are. only cares about the aesthetic she had back in 2012 and down, but not now in 2021-2022 with her art and how truly happy she is. She’s always been beautiful.no matter what. it just really pisses me off. they are just straight up being f4tph0b!c tbh. & twt is the worst abt this situation.

Their interpretations of Lana and her work are shallow, lack actual knowledge about Lana and her music, and they only listen to her and artists like Fiona Apple because of how they represented that modern day Bonnie & Clyde esque bad girl Hollywood reject persona. Their social media presences are toxic, they’re cringe worthy and are literally just rehashing Tumblr posts from 2012 but in pastel pink and using Whisper. I have no problem with liking a particular era of an artists music because of the styles and aesthetics they adopted at the time, but these people in this group purely like 2007-2014 Lana because of her body type at the time, allusions to drugs and alcohol and bad girl image. I don’t have a problem with a few of these coquette people, because a few of them genuinely just like that aesthetic but also treat Lana with human decency and respect and admire her less mainstream work also. However, as a broad generalisation the reason above is why I think this subculture is really toxic and I lowkey hate that Lana has become indoctrinated as some kind of poster child for this social media movement when she has never really aligned herself that way. I see them romanticising things like calorie counting, headaches and other effects of malnutrition, suicide, mental health and it’s treatment centres etc and it doesn’t take a genius to understand how harmful that is. I know Lana’s career benefits from people like this, and Lana has been a polarising figure for singing about some of the topics mentioned above before, but I feel like these coquette fans and Lana show the difference between romanticising and awareness/art.

Personally, I feel like Lana during the earliest moments of her career was super glamourous. She had a team of stylists by her side, I suppose, but I think that she looked gorgeous nevertheless and feel like the glamour was there, and that some people might move towards that time because of it? Maybe I'm being too naïve. Lana is beautiful no matter what, that's obvious, and if we're here I guess we all think that? She was gorgeous when she was skinny and she's beautiful now, too. But I do feel like some people romanticize how depressed she was.

i see all of these girlblogger coquette whisper app girls all over pinterest and i find them very immature, toxic, and annoying, some of them aren’t that bad but there’s some who are very discriminatory towards fat people and also extremely full of themselves in the most annoying way, and honestly these accounts and their aesthetics kinda creep me out, but maybe that’s just me and i’m becoming more hypersensitive about everything btw i don’t really think there’s anything wrong with liking a particular era, my favorite era is the lizzy grant era because i feel a deep connection with the music, photoshoots, music videos, and performances, but it has nothing to do with her appearance, i think it’s totally fine if somebody prefers or especially enjoys her earlier albums/eras but if it’s because she was “prettier” or “skinnier” then that’s fucked up

I wonder if sky reads her interviews and enjoys them because they're honestly terrible and repetitive. Masochism being largely about label drama is so lame. I want boy troubles!!

I don't have a problem with people only liking certain albums of her cause I understand how BTD (or any particular album) could be more accessible to the average listener or to people who like more upbeat music (it even happens with NFR, some snobs people say it's her only good album)... my issue is with people who are fans only of BTD-UV Lana the person, not the music... like if you only like skinny lowkey depressed Lana maybe you don't really like Lana Like it's kinda sad seeing these accounts post Lana news from 2022 using the same old 2012 photoshopped pictures that are totally unrelated to the topic but of course they can't use 36 year old Lana cause it's not aesthetic. Fuck them really

but thanks to talking about it to a different magazine (=different target audience) each time, her issues with labels get bigger recognition, which enhances chances for SOMETHING to finally change. Yes, she talks about the same stuff each time, but she wants to be heard, and I think this is what she tries to achieve - to bring about change in the subject matter.

Today, Ferreira seems to be in a better place – or at least more optimistic. While she doesn’t give much away about the status of Masochism, she ensures that the long-awaited album is basically done, save for some final finishing touches. Once again, she has joined forces with Ariel Pink for production, as well as Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie and Mexican Summer’s Jorge Elbrecht (the mastermind behind “Don’t Forget” and her sweeping, 2019 chamber-pop single “Downhill Lullaby”). A video for “Don’t Forget” is also “definitely” on the way, but Ferreira grows visibly frustrated when talking about it – there’s still work to do. “It's my first music video in like seven or eight years, I just can’t let it just be okay,” the singer says. “It makes things weird for me because some people are just bound to be disappointed.” I found it weird too but maybe it's them the distributor on UK? Sky is Part of UMG? Idk

tw // ed hi baes ♡ i am curious to hear everyone’s thoughts on this recent wave of lana stans. within the last year or so, a lot of “coquette” (i have absolutely nothing against that aesthetic, i actually consider myself a little coquette) and “femcels” have been obsessed with lana. if you aren’t aware of this new aesthetic, i would recommend mina le’s video called toxic femininity which explains it pretty well in a more neutral context. usually, they’ll only listen to lana’s earlier music. most don’t like lana now because she’s not super skinny (these people romanize eating disorders). long story short, i would love to hear everyone’s opinions on this. please try to avoid being hateful, please respect everyone <3

there’s also some fans who think liking the lizzy grant era is wrong and problematic because it was apparently a bad time of her life or that it’s romanticizing poverty, prostitution, drugs, domestic abuse, all of this stuff that had nothing to do with lana’s life during that time lol… when i think of that era, i think of fireworks, amusement parks, beaches, sparkly things, nostalgia, happiness, my own life and memories, nothing bad

Can we at least have another magazine cover this year

Her latest interviews are so repetitive re: label strife but there’s also this undercurrent of like… pure sadness. It seems like she’s just now kind of realizing what big great things she can do, I feel bad she seems so unsure of herself. That part about being made to feel “demanding for wanting to have a room to change in on shoots, rather than change in front of like 30 fucking guys” is especially telling of the subtle degradation that not just her but many female artists are still subject to.

Everything’s so quiet that’s not normal, the magazine cover was four months ago, has she scrapped anything at all? I was convinced the neil shot was for her lol what does that mean? we are starving STARVING

i mean................... nothing new........... she doesn't even talk about the album anymore. i feel sorry for what she's gone through her whole career and she has the rights to speak about it but.... these interviews are ALL identical. even when she talks about her past and label drama, it's always the SAME thing over and over.... ugh

I think earlier in her career the LDR persona was just super intense. I dont mean that it wasn't authentic, just that she was most in tune with the person she wanted to portray to the world during this time. she wanted to seem like a "gangsta Nancy Sinatra" so she simply did. She was especially polarizing and at the height of her controversies (snl performance, lolita, etc) during this time. It's not surprising at all to me that this is the era of LDR that a lot of fans flock to. Of course we all love her in all of her eras and appreciate her deeply as an artist, but we are super fans lol.

I'm not really sure how it works but if sky is a known perfectionist, who tries every possible sound, does 100s of vocal takes, requires all sorts of help... that would require soo much money. VS spending on an artist who is easily satisfied with a lil pro tools bop and heads back out there swiftly. It makes sense that her dilemma is so brutal because the rewards don't seem clear. Obviously I think a label who is invested in cultivating sky and quality music so that there is better stuff circulating in the mix is important but again that seems so expensive. She really would need to hit the jackpot in order to do things on her terms to the degree that she requires.

Its sooo hard to avoid that community on tumblr now. I reblog/like anything Lana and ill start getting those blogs as "recommended" for weeks. The girblogger thing is tied in very closely with coquette too, so thats another thing i cant get away from. I think they are taking the parts of Lana that people used to take out of context early in her career (music critics, for example) so i dont think of them as fellow lana fans, but rather young girls who are using bits and pieces of Lanas art (when she was skinny, and only then) and distorting it x10. Its kinda like when Lana was used on Lolita blogs in 2014/2015, but now theyve added more to it and made it even worse. I personally cant imagine appropriating an artist so much just to fit an aesthetic, and a toxic one at that. So i hope theyll grow out of it. I think its gotten worse because of tik tok and peoples expectations on how they should live an aesthetic, not just have some aesthetic in your life. I love Mina Le's videos tho.
