17 likesyeah as much as i love cotcc it was all about her vocals. the instruments didn’t blow me away or anything which is fine but vocals and instruments are equal to me. like sometimes i listen to songs like pretty when you cry, honeymoon, west coast bc i craveeeee the instrumentals. they send me to a new dimension and i miss that component of her music that is lacking with jacks production. manifesting a new producer for rcs

15 likespeople (including myself, I’m people) were really attached to the image of Marina and The Diamonds up until FROOT which was that of a very cheeky, messy but lovable, shady at times, very talented singer songwriter who made fun of youth culture while at the same time partaking in it and curated her project with the utmost precision from the sound to the visuals to the songs everything L+F was a HUGE paradigm shift cause she dropped EVERYTHING she had been doing and did a 180 turn on us No more interesting visuals, no more curated tracklist (she admitted putting together the album after it was already over and coming up with the concept of love + fear last minute which immensely backfired), no more interesting songs (literally nobody outside of the stans remembers Love + Fear or a song on the album), the production is very lacking, boring and generic and the humour is gone now you CAN and should like the song if you want!!! I’m not here to tell anybody what to like and what not to like BUT I think it’s impossible not to acknowledge that a huge part of Marina’s artistry was gone with L+F, and basically everybody noticed that. The reviews all say it’s underwhelming and fans alike are not particularly amazed by it. In fact she went as far as to fire her own manager, which was on maternity leave cause she had just had a baby, cause the album underperformed and she wasn’t pleased. also I think it’s very interesting and it speaks to what actually Marina feels about the album that not even a year after L+F was released she completely dropped the ball while FROOT as an era lasted for well over 3 years, and the same goes for EH (TFJ had a much shorter run but she wasn’t known back then so it’s part of the reason why) but anyway i really suggest you check out her earlier work cause it’s objectively better musically speaking EDIT: i do wanna stress LIKE LOVE + FEAR IF YOU WANT!!! I am well past “hating” on it I just answered a question that I feel I’m particularly apt to answer cause I was one of the people who criticized her the most and it’s what the post was about

15 likesultraviolence makes me literally insane when i listen to it – there have been points where i have to monitor and reduce how much i listen to UV because as i said it can make me like very depressed or extremely overenergized and impulsive... honeymoon too but less so and other certain songs of hers ALL I WANT is an album or at least a bunch of songs that just make me go crazy and emotional and insane. like hit me where it hurts tie my heart up in a knot knock me around i don't care what toll it takes on me i need it

14 likesAbel called Lana one of his only real friends in the music industry. I don‘t think that the QFTC could change that... no? Edit: Let me also add that Abel follows only 4 people on instagram. Because he‘s edgy and cool (), but not because he unfriended her. Edit2: And asap follows Lana. Are you guys drunk

14 likesActually it's so funny to me because Abel and Lana used to talk about their music and how it almost involuntarily conversed with each other, where they're talking through their albums at each other or answering each other and it's kind of still true to both of their latest releases. After Hours has some songs talking about leaving California just like Lana had, LMLY was her literally saying the same thing "I'm ready to leave LA and I want you to come" where Abel has a song called "Escape From LA" It makes me wonder if Lana will keep going down this path of "i need to get out" and the same with Abel NEEDED TO MAKE THIS EDIT ABOUT ABEL LYRICS ON ESCAPE FROM LA: It's almost like it's about her on these lines. He says: "She's a cold hearted bitch with no shame, but her throat too fire, she got chrome plated hearts hanging from her neck and them shits going wild" Throat too fire could be talking about head but could also be talking about the girl's voice and I believe Lana wrote a similar lyrics in JFK. Also, that last bit makes me think of the wild at heart necklace

13 likesthere was a rumor I think on Reddit that people had it, but I’d take that with a slight slight slight grain of salt, because I think insiders would be dying for the attention if they actually have it. I’m ready for Lana to mention the album again. She hasn’t mentioned it once since the ‘announcement’

13 likesSince it’s been a week & a day since Chemtrails was released, I thought I’d finally give my thoughts now that I’ve given the album proper time to settle. I’ve given the album about 30 listens all the way through so far, so I sort of know what my thoughts are. First off, this just screams ‘end of summer, transitioning into autumn album. The original September release date would have been absolutely perfect, as this album would be a great play from September – November and I really look forward to hearing it then. Last weekend, my friend and I saw another friend for his birthday, and the three of us sat around a bonfire outside while I played Chemtrails and it fit the mood just perfectly. In my opinion, this album features some of her, perhaps even her definite, best vocals. Yosemite is just insane all around with her vocals in the very best way. Not All Who Wander Are Lost also features those gorgeous high vocals she does so flawlessly. The singing style on the bridge of Dance Till We Die is one of the best moments of the whole album, and I hope she makes more songs where the entirety is in the style of the bridge. Dark But Just a Game is a career highlight. Anyone who disagrees with me here is just simply wrong. Immediately, the production on the verses and chorus reminded me of two separate songs, but I couldn’t quite place my finger on it. The verses sort of remind me of Adele’s version of Lovesong, but that’s not exactly what I’m thinking of. It’ll come to me one day in the middle of the night, I’m sure of it. Either way, this was an immediate favourite and I really, really hope she makes more songs in this sort of style. I’m also glad to see Breaking Up Slowly finally getting some praise here and there, because I really do love this song and I knew I would. I’ve become quite the Nikki Lane fan after seeing her open for Lana in Wichita during the NFR Midwest leg, and I think her harmonies with Lana sound really pretty. I’ve been anticipating this song since the live snippets in October, and it lived up to my expectations. I’m also glad Zella Day finally got her moment with Lana. I’ve been a huge Zella Day fan for the past 6+ years, so I’m so happy they finally have a song together (I just wish it was an original rather than a cover!) I haven’t quite decided where Chemtrails lands in my overall album ranking, but it’s somewhere in the middle. I do feel though that with time, this album will crawl its way to an upper spot, especially when autumn hits and it really fits the time of the season. Here’s my track ranking (subject to change over time), with 1 being my favourite: 1. Dark but Just a Game 2. Tulsa Jesus Freak 3. Breaking Up Slowly 4. Yosemite 5. Wild at Heart 6. White Dress 7. Dance Till We Die 8. Chemtrails Over the Country Club 9. Let Me Love You Like a Woman 10. Not All Who Wander Are Lost 11. For Free Something I will say about this album though is that the track order seems so weird to me. Songs like “Wild at Heart” & “Dark but Just a Game” seem like such obvious closing tracks, so it’s super odd and comes off as out of place to me that they’re both right in the middle. Also, the actual closer “For Free” seems much more like mid-track, like a little interlude. White Dress also just doesn’t seem like a proper opener either. As beautiful as it is, I just feel like it doesn’t set the tone of the album either thematically or sonically. I know it’s one of the more unpopular songs, but out of all the songs on the album, “Let Me Love You Like a Woman” strikes me as the most “opener”-esque. I think that thought is really because of how the song both begins and ends. The ending is so abrupt, that it’s almost like a pre-lude to the story she’s about to tell. Especially if it were to be followed by Chemtrails, I feel like those songs would be really nice back-to-back together to start the album. & that opening line from LMLYLAW, “I come from a small town, how ‘bout you?” really is so fitting for the album and would’ve been a great way to open it. I reordered the album to what makes more sense to me and have been listening to it in a playlist & have really been enjoying this order, but I'm still experimenting with it: Overall though, really love this album. I love how all of her albums are distinctly different, she truly is capable of anything. Can't wait to see what's to come next, and will be happily enjoying this album in the mean time x

12 likesOh no I don't want RCS to be in the same family as NFR and COCC. NFR is this older child who turned out fine and is thriving in life COCC is its lovable younger sibling. And that's on PERIODT As for RCS, I hope it'll spark another innovation in her artistry. Let's say COCC is Kate Bush's "Never For Ever" and RCS is "The Dreaming". The serve

11 likesmy TI-84 graphing calculator is finally coming in handy i interpret it in.... a neutral way it might? but i feel like no... because cocc was nfr's sister so why would cocc have a twin, the family's getting too big i could also see it being a sign that rcs won't come june 1st, but if it does AND it has a different sound it'll be very impressive

11 likesI think he’s still mad at us im hoping nobody teases us, I used to really like it but it got annoying for me during Chemtrails. Insiders act like they’re the ones providing us with new music and we should be grateful for the crumbs they give us. I’d rather be surprised

10 likesYou have a point. It’s so weird for me too bc like listening to the instrumentals that leaked is far more interesting than the actual album itself. I mean Lana’s vocals are superb but the focus on her vocals here keeps me from focusing on the instrumentals as much and it kind of takes away from that. Jack needs to learn a good balancing system with her vocals, volume, and instrumentals. Also, I tried listening to Folklore a few days ago and honestly…. It all sounded the same and sounded like the instrumentals and even some of the lyrics would’ve fit perfectly on COCC. Its obviously because of Jack but I mean…. Idk I don’t want Lana to sound exactly like Taylor all the time, the albums sounded too similar for comfort for me. I really enjoy cocc for what it is but I’m really, really hoping RCS can develop on similar sounds shes done in the past. Doesn’t have to be a full on UV 2.0 or a Honeymoon 2.0 but still, something that can hit like a velvet crowbar
