33 likesI know I’m always in this thread but I swear - the writing on these songs is just phenomenal. It’s truly lightyears ahead of anything else she’s done; she has always been an amazing, gifted writer, but you can objectively feel the growth in these 3 tracks (as if there was anywhere to go for an artist who is always at her lyrical peak, in all honesty). They’re just so stunning. This record already feels really special in that the writing is confessional, revealing, and poetic at the same time. The words sound so euphonious and her vocals are strong as ever. I love all her records and she’s always been a genuine, true artist, but there’s really a weight of emotion that we’re really lucky to be hearing from Lana this time around. I can’t imagine baring it all to the extent that she did to anyone.

29 likesI don't know if this has been discussed, but in regards to domestic abuse/heartbreak: the switch from blue banisters to green + grey banisters: When you get a bruise, it is usually dark blue/ back. And when it is in the process of healing it turns grey + greenish.

29 likesI really don't think it was added as a throwaway lyric, it fits perfectly. She's been through a brutal year where a bunch of idiots who know nothing about her have called her a racist, a Karen, a Trump supporter, etc., and obviously none of that is true. The lyric is sincere and places the song in a very specific and challenging time. She's solidifying the fact that that's who she is, and then brings it back to the theme of the song by wishing her father was with her, and reflecting on the disconnect on the lives they live. Not to mention the fact that Lana fans will be singing along to the song forever now. Having people repeat "black lives matter" even if it's just in a song is a lot more powerful than people who post on social media and then do nothing beyond that to support a cause. People dragging her for that will drag her for anything.

28 likesI don't know if it's just me, but lately I've been kinda let down by Lana's production? More specifically, how some songs are just piano chords and her Now don't get me wrong I love the piano (hell I play it lol) but I feel like Lana's lyrics and voice shine best either with a more orchestral production (Honeymoon, Born To Die) or with a jazzy, psychedelic one (Ultraviolence) Now I do believe in some songs the piano is really effective at conveying a certain atmosphere (with hope is a dangerous thing or Cherry Blossom), but I can't help thinking that a rich sound like in Salvatore, Venice Bitch, West Coast, BB, SoC, Blue Velvet, etc... would really turn the songs around Thoughts?

26 likesI really think this album is going to be all about how her relationship with her mother affected every facet of her life. Our relationships with our parents truly do inform our relationships with others and our relationships with ourselves. I’ve said it before but I really, really appreciate Lana being this open and honest about that lately. Sending love out there to everyone who can relate to what she’s feeling in these songs. ♥️

26 likesI have been reading through the last couple of pages of this thread and I totally get that some of you don‘t like the songs. They have a complex melody, are not catchy on the first listen and not easily accessible. I was struggling too when I heard them. So it‘s absolutely ok if you don‘t like them and if you want share your opinion! But please keep in mind that for some users (including me), this is peak Lana. She has probably never created something so unique and never shared lyrics that are so vulnerable. Sometimes they feel like poetry and after stanning her for ten years I see a new side of her as a person and musician. They also show how she has created her own place in the music industry where no one else can follow her. I hope you consider this before you post „We will never get the old Lana back“ or „why did she work for Mike when it‘s not for a hiphop record“. And that the rest of the album could sound quite different and that it’s too early to write it off.

22 likesive never felt so empty listening to lana songs before; these songs are so bleak and personally tragic I really connect and feel what Lana is trying to say. one of my biggest fears is deeply regretting the life I lived and all three of these songs scream that exact same emotion "So I ended up awkward but sweet" ;( the way our parents and our relationship with them affect who we are as adults so heavily and how difficult it is to separate yourself from the way they made you think and feel when you were young is such an untouched struggle in music that im so glad Lana finally feels comfortable laying out on the table for us.

21 likesI would collapse if the final track of the album is called "Question for the Culture" lowkey manifesting I honestly have complete faith that she could pull it off.

21 likesi know we're getting off-topic at this point, but while i agree with the sentiment that we shouldn't expect "the old lana" back after almost a decade since her debut album, i really dislike the narrative that all she sang about was sugar daddies, depression, and cocaine, her music from that era was a lot more melodramatic in a way and it did talk about troubled love, sadness, and drugs, but she wasn't just a depressed sad girl doing drugs with older men and nothing else, i'll never understand why people view her music that way

21 likesI think I lowkey understand what Lana meant by "revenge" on this album. She seems to be giving a background story to her personality/songwriting style, explaining why she is the way she is. Something she failed to in the past (Annie interview, or even her Instagram posts, etc.) I might be wrong, and I don't want to make assumptions. But Lana explaining her tough relationship with her mother makes so much sense, in my opinion, and are a reason why to her songs about "domestic abuse" and "toxic relationships". If that's all she's known when growing up... I can see her being drawn to, once she was older. For her, that seemed "normal", even though she knew it was wrong and would hurt her. Those are her experiences, something she already said multiple times, but never fully developed. But now she is, in form of lyrically deep haunting melodies, and it's helping her heal I think we're definitely in for a ride with this new record, and we will hear many more personal stories

21 likesA lot of people, mixers, and engineers worked on this project including Melody Perry she did background vocals for text book according to her ig stories. They all are very proud of it. I did some looking and found additional details about the birth of this album-Gabe Simon says that “Lana had a dream for a record to follow chemtrails and that week in october we started on that journey. “ So she did start then on those sessions with Zachary i am assuming And on Dean Reid’s post someone said I hope u and Rick do more tracks in the future and he replied “stay tuned!”

20 likesI love all the songs for their own reasons BUT the sheer ambiance of TB is everything I’ve wanted back in a Lana song WW’s last minute and a half is MAGNIFICENT. Those background vocals that swim around the whole ending really help you feel her urgency and desperation BB took me by surprise, the storytelling is unlike she’s ever done She really did THAT and I’m more impatient for the album than I already was. I also think I’m more excited than I was for Chemtrails

20 likessome of you are committed to misunderstanding/mis-innerstanding her, and sure you can, but why do you stay around ? textbook (to me) is clearly one expressing a lot of vulnerability; equally one to provoke journalists, who ALSO create the narrative of labeling her as a ‘glamorous’ woman who sings about fake abuse/fake daddy issues (which those of us know is not true) the song to me read as a whole “she’s back to singing about daddy, lana is back at complaining about daddy, she has daddy/father issues, wah the thunder bird she likes OLD MEN, only privileged men drive old cars” it’s clear the me the line “let’s rewrite history, i’ll do this dance with you, you know i’m not that girl, you know i’ll never be’” is a SLIGHT jab. at least that is how i took it. so the journalist of the past who like extrapolating she is a fake sad girl or only likes a certain type of man has always been bullshit. she knows it. she just wrote how things WERE. and NOW she is writing how her life is NOW. she’s surrounded by girlfriends, she is at Black Lives Matter shouting into the crowd (which everyone was shouting in LA as it was a painful event & one where the collective wanted to help be there in a small way) i do not see how it could be offensive other than extrapolating her small line into something it is not. something white male journalists have done since 2013.

20 likesOK a couple thoughts about the release of the album - 1. The use of the term “buzz singles” in the press release is probably the same thing as NFR. I remember when MAC, VB, and Hope were referred to as “buzz singles” and it sent everyone into a frenzy about whether or not they’d be on the album, and they of course ended up on the record so I think these 3 tracks are going to be on the album and the term “buzz single” is probably used very loosely. 2. A few days ago, one of the ATRL insiders (I think @/issgoulding) said that the album is out in less than 2 months ( @Nikogo posted it pages ago <3). People knew two weeks ago that the singles would come out this week so I imagine that they would also know when the album was coming, especially since they have the songs. I really think and hope July 4th will happen, or at least the album will be released this summer.

20 likesOk I have finally been able to listen to the three songs with headphones, and read the lyrics, and here are my two cents for this album so far: Blue Banisters seems like the continuity of Chemtrails, its yang side. It’s Violet X Chemtrails X Norman. This explains why she wants to put it out rapidly, since it’s the follow-up to Chemtrails. Both Chemtrails and Bb remind me of Taylor’s folklore and evermore. Evermore is way more personal than Folklore, and the second one is more « experimental » at moments than Folklore. I expect a bit of « experimentation » with the other songs of this album as well. and she really is telling her story and this could be her sweet revenge. I don’t know how her team feels about a Grammy submission but if it’s on the table, the album should be out before the end of summer. The production of the three songs is still a bit « minimal » but the way the structure of the songs shifts is closer to what we got with Norman and that I loved (that’s my biggest problem with Chemtrails: the melodies are too simple, not really shifting from chorus to verses). Blue Banisters is Lana at the peak of her songwriting. The narration is simply superb. And the way she thinks about her new man and the music becomes so dreamy And when she eludes later that it didn’t work out Also love how it begins similarly to Chemtrails (by the way, both album titles are so beautifully poetic, put side to side). Text Book has an incredible story as well. It’s really « Daddy issues » Lana acknowledging it. The melody is a bit harder to follow, but I’m loving it more with each listen. Wildflower Wildfire is so beautiful in its vulnerability. I only wished that the last minute of the production began earlier in the song. If there’s a cover for this album, there’s a high probability it could be a Joan Baez one, since she referenced her at least twice already (Dance Til We Die and Bb).

Wildflower Wildfire
LOVE and 19 others liked a post in a topic by AW Pussy
“Comfortably numb but with lithium came poetry” Lithium is a mood-stabilizer, It is used to treat bipolar disorder. As a med student this line hits.. because this medication has no euphoric or relaxing effect like most of the drugs used to treat mental disorders... so she taking it, means that she had sever manic and depressive episodes in her life, and that breaks my heart -
19 likesWW is the saddest song she’s ever written and god it’s not like she’s ever really written happy music. However its not a downer because lana has always had an inner radiance that illuminates the darkness. The music is cathartic rather than depressive. She’s not afraid to delve into the shadow of society, and that’s why she’s never been the darling of the general public and also why she’s so precious to us. I can easily say Id probably be dead right now if I hadn’t given her music a fair listen, that’s terrifying and powerful and beautiful. I think the full album will be an actual triumph. End Rant

19 likesLana's made it very clear for a long time that she's telling her life's story through her art, so let's accept that and embark on the journey that she's taking us on. If the music isn't for you anymore that's fine, but people need to stop minimizing her work because it's not what they want. Personal tastes don't indicate the quality or artistic value of what Lana's doing now.

The lyrics, her vocals, the production, the entire last minute where the production goes crazy... all the shit it revealed about her relationship w p*tty and mental health and stuff. I’m just so destroyed
