Imagine hating an artist so much that you keep spreading negativity instead of just listening to something else -

14 likesFor any other artist this would be a fair point but Lana is truly an outlier when it comes to record label discourse, she’s proven her label wrong many times during her career (see the whole Ultraviolence mess) . at this point im certain that they just let her do whatever the fuck she wants . This is also justified by looking at literally any interview w Ben where he talks about her process . In recent memory i think the only time the label stepped in and said ‘no’ to her vision was the original NFR artwork , but now they let her release those MESSES of single artworks for this era .. but mostly what im tryna say is if Lana wants something to come out at a certain time or a certain way i rly think it all comes from her mind . Because her label 1. Doesn’t care enough to step in bc she costs them zero budget in promo anyway so if it fails it’s barely a loss bc they know she has a huge fan base, and 2. She’s just too fuckin stubborn to let them change her plans

We can all agree that Jack should have stopped producing music after Lana released Venice Bitch. that song took all the talent he had -

Agreed. This album sounds like she stumbled into Jack's studio after suffering sunstroke and rambled into a microphone about forks, crystals and her hypothetical daughter for 30 odd minutes. Big yikes. Turns out that going to Antarctica to find inspiration for a summer album is, in fact, a terrible idea. -

This might be unpopular, but I think Jack‘s production is solid on this record. I like the atmosphere, instruments and summer-vibe. For me it‘s more about the weak lyrics (I can’t really relate) and her high(er) vocal range that doesnt match the stripped back sound -

12 likesI caved and listened to G**d O**s…. Y’ALL THIS IS SO GOOD!!! The beat is giving Sweet Dreams Are Made of This by the Eurythmics which is a CLASSIC if you’ve never heard that song. Charli’s singing in her higher register and she sounds so amazing omg… I only wish the song was maybe 20 seconds longer. A cute outtro like Claws had would’ve fit perfectly. I WILL be PURCHASING & STREAMING & TELLING ALL MY FRIENDS!!! This song has so much potential with the nostalgic beat & catchy post-chorus vocalizing. I’m so excited for the music video omggg.

I'm so surprised by the extreme hate, people are so melodramatic. It's one thing to say the music's not for you, but some of the things people are saying... I went for a nice long walk last night and listened three times and it's so lovely! Very late 90s/early 2000s pop, mixed with Chemtrails energy, with subtle touches of 60s/70s. Not a big acid album like she originally set out to make, but the leftovers of that idea are sprinkled throughout, stoner vibes for sure. This polarizing reaction upon release will only ensure it's cult status in the future. I imagine the whole album will be a grower that gets better with each listen, but it's already great. -

10 likesCOCC is a staggering achievement, so fucking slept on by the fandom, and will prob be praised and adored 10-20 years from now (i really do think QFTC and all its related shit killed every ounce of public goodwill she racked up during NFR era). esp after spending time w new lorde i am in awe of lana's ability to write the most beautiful, intricate vocal melodies, which COCC highlights so beautifully.

I finally got to listen to it and here are my thoughts (I didn’t hear the bonus tracks yet). She did say that the album was a mix of 2000 pop and hippie 60s-70s folk. And it becomes an excellent summer album. And the album works best when the two meet perfectly: Path, Fallen Fruit, Oceanic (very mellow and smooth, though the lyrics are a bit all over the place on first listen), Mood Ring and even Solar Power. But the album also lacks something when a song relies too much on one influence: secrets sounds like a B-side song from a Natacha Bedingfield record (only the Robyn cameo makes the song cute) and many songs mid-way feel like unfinished demos (hell, stoned sounds like a lyrical finished masterpiece in comparison). And Man with an Axe is way too heavy for a summer album… Lorde has three problems against her with this album : Her 4 year hiatus; The lyrical genius of PH and MD; She gets lost in too many themes not necessarily well developed (summer, emotional baggage, fame) that Lana developed better on Norman and Chemtrails. So not a bad album, but a 6-song EP would have been perfect. -
