Glamourising tf out of my life rn.. I’m currently filming at a hotel for a movie and they just broke me for a moment because I was too seen in the last shot, so I’m just dancing alone in a beautiful dress that I could never afford to purchase, in a hotel room that I could never afford to stay in, to Blue Banisters (which I purchased 9 copies of.. so that’s why I can’t afford anything else) Thunder just hits different when you’re dancing alone on nothing but a Wednesday night hangover & good vibes x

After digesting the album I truly feel that the standard album cover is perfect for the entire record.

I was upset about it at first, but now that we've heard it, I'm so happy that Dealer wasn't on Chemtrails. It needed to wait for Blue Banisters.

I've been depressed as hell for months, and I'm just sitting here crying over nothing in an A&W parking lot drinking root beer through a soggy paper straw while blaring Beautiful and Violets for Roses on repeat. 10/10 love this album.

Accidentally listened to the radio for a while today n went with it and I think part of what separates Lana’s music from pop radio music is that it’s infused w genuine emotion, and isnt afraid to be slow. It’s infused w nuance and is real rich w its cadences and isnt afraid to sound how it does. It has an original soul the album’s on a tier of its own n im sure time’ll treat it well

Re: the discussion of songs being about Clay —Sure, there are little references to him here and there (maybe two, in all honesty), but I really think this record is about her recalibrating her life after her breakup with Sean. I think the end of that relationship brought a lot of change in her life — good and bad — and this whole record explores that. We see her dig deep into her family karmic lineage and how that translates into her interpersonal relationships, we see her battle inner disruptiveness caused by family-of-origin trauma and how that translates into the public’s projection onto her. I think the end of that relationship was significant and not at all frivolous, based on how she talked about it in her livestream, and how we can see notes of that appear in the songs, the themes of which we can trace back to events in her life that we’ve been privy to over the last 2 years. It’s a beautifully dense record.

I’m really curious to hear a fan who can play saxophone do an actual sax solo in Living Legend in place of lana’s vocals since she said that’s what she was going for on her livestream

this album was released at the perfect time. even though i’m sad RCS never came out June 1st or July 4th i think it’s a very fall album as people have mentioned. i’ve listened in the car on full blast more times than i can count and can’t imagine a more picturesque scene than in the fall leaves. COCC was definitely a late summer / early fall album and i feel like it transitions into this perfectly. cant wait to play it in winter when it’s cold outside with a nice cup of hot chocolate or hot coffee i miss the craziness of the pre release era though (even if i was just lurking) and the thrill of the chaos of this website when we found literally anything because it was so dry! cant wait for the next one but will enjoy this album until she releases her next magnum opus with mike dean, emile and zach

this! like whatever happened to saying "meh not my cup of tea"? now it's like "if i don't like this that means there's something objectively wrong with it and no one else is allowed to like it either" like no there's no such thing as a right or wrong opinion in art and if we don't like things, we shouldn't even waste our time and mental energy on them.

Not sure what’s gotten into me, but I haven’t been able to get Blue Banisters (the song) off repeat. I never connected much with it before these past couple days.

I think BB is another fine addition to her discography. BBS and Dealer are my immediate favorites so far, but everything else is really enjoyable (as is usual for me). Anyways, BBS seems a brilliant companion song to Black Beauty, which is interesting, given the old leaked songs (which I'm highly in favor of) are kind of a positive "referendum" on Barrie. Don't think they'll be getting back together; however, that's no reason not to work together. I refuse to conceive of Dealer as anything other than a hilarious topic for a song (i.e., pop fiction, unless somebody has impressive receipts-- i.e., none of this ambiguous "it's my story" type statements). It's both Lynchian and Lizzyan at the same time. Her "screaming" is impressive AF and is similar, imo, to opera divas having a really bad day in some modern work (i.e., as a kind of singing/acting). Another thing I like her doing is the greater compositional involvement in the production, as in the horn arrangements (and she's also credited with the arrangement of the Trio; so that wasn't just Mike Dean messing around). In the center of the CD booklet there's some music score, with some lyrics, which I can barely make out as from Arcadia. I can't read the music, but if it were for her horn arrangements for that song, she would seem to be making the point: "I did this". I would have rather seen the impressive horn outro for IYLDWM; however, that wouldn't have had lyrics to ID it (so I wouldn't have been able to guess what it meant). It makes me wonder whether all the horn-guitar noodling that ends the White Mustang video (which I've never seen a credit for) is hers too. Finally, I'm totally compulsed to say: it's a harmonica, damn it! (that she makes her voice sound like on LL).

Do you think new singer Laina Del Ray scoops her cats litter boxes and picks up after her dogs herself? I just.... I couldn't imagine, I think she doesn't and I bet she pays someone to do it how much do they get paid to do it? $9 an hour?

I don't think this album is about Clay just for the simple fact that most of the album was made before or right around when she started dating him. Like I said, I think he was mentioned in Blue Banisters, but that's it. Most of the album to me isn't about her romantic life in particular, but rather how that translates into the other aspects of her life. Songs like Text Book and Black Bathing Suit are so interesting to me because they do that. They take something like a break up or relationship struggles and make it into something bigger. They're able to convey such a complex story. Listening to Lana talk about how the breakup with Sean impacted her and how it inspired her to write Arcadia put the rest of the album into a different perspective for me. Even when Lana's not talking about him specifically on a certain song, she's talking about her life after they split and how that impacted her. I almost wonder if she added Thunder and Nectar onto the album because she felt like she was back in that sort of point/situation in her life again. Cherry Blossom I think was added because of baby Phoenix and Lana generally thinking more about motherhood, and then Living Legend might have just been because she saw it leaked and remembered how much she loves that song. The whole album is just so interesting to me in that way. Note: I don't want to speculate on Lana's relationship with Sean or Clay or anything like that because I don't feel it's my place to do so, I'm more so just going off of things she's said and the lyrical content. I could talk about how smart her writing is forever

1000%! That’s why it makes me quite sad, actually, to see people dismiss songs on the record or say that some should have been scrapped — and I know people will read this and think whatever about me — but the reality is that this record is one thing you absolutely cannot dispute. It’s someone’s story — as all her records largely are — and while I understand that people care about the sonic aspects of an album, I think this record isn’t the one where that’s what you need to see its brilliance. Don’t get me wrong - sonically, it’s gorgeous and stunning and layered - but the lyrics and narrative of the record holistically are what make it what it is, they are what make it a groundbreaking, critical record for her. And I feel like when you’re a fan of Lana, you’re not in it solely for the soundscape or the visuals, you likely resonate with/have been touched by the poetic honesty and lyricism through which her character shines. Controversial to say, and I know people won’t like that I said that — but it’s just how I feel about it lol. That’s where I see the magic in this record! Ugh you are the genius! I feel the same exact way, it’s really amazing to be able to witness her life in real time and see it become beautiful art that will live on till the end of time. That’s her contribution to our world and we’re lucky to bear vast witness to it.

Precisely! This is why I find it so unfair when someone says this is just a collection of old songs or that she’s lazy or uninspired… clearly this break-up was a catalyst to a very intense self-analysis and self-exploration that trace all the way back to her family and the impact her formative traumas still have on the current relationships they haunt. That she laced that incredibly layered and dense concept with the themes of sisterhood, newfound stability within the family she chose and her own desire to fix the wrongdoings of her family by not only trying to do right by society but ALSO fostering nurturing and caring maternal reflexes towards everyone she cares about, is nothing short of breathtaking.

I'd argue this is like... in her top 5 emotional moments of her discography. It's painfully bittersweet.

Just started tearing up because I think I finally felt the power of Cherry Blossom on this record—she’s singing to a future daughter, telling her all the things she would need to hear that Lana never heard from her own mother wowowow. maybe I am stupid and everyone already realized this.

@YourGirl666 DUDE this THREAD! i would wish her QFTC was peer-reviewed, clarified, and sharpened i love cocc and bb but i do wonder what she would have made if she hadn't felt such frustration and anger towards the critics, not to mention the trauma of being cancelled by seemingly millions of people
