6 likesI actually think she strains way more in her live performances now compared to back then BECAUSE she’s using the proper technique. Back then, she’d put on different voices (like the baby voice, the deep voice, the screechy voice, etc...) because it’d be easier to hit whatever notes she needed to hit doing those improper techniques. Now that she’s actually singing with proper support, it’s more difficult. That’s why I think her voice used to sound effortless but now it kinda sounds forced. I’m sure she’ll improve though. Practice makes perfect and singing technique is very difficult to master. I’m just glad she’s doing the proper technique now so that she can keep her voice healthy
-
6 likesHer technique is better in You’ll Never Walk Alone than it was in Cola, but she had more ease in Cola because it was recorded back in 2012 and her voice has matured in 8 years. However she strains way less than she used to and it’s actually been noticeable in her live performances since the LATTM tour where she sang more open and healthy belts than before

6 likesI don't like how the start of it is basically acapella and then when the choir comes in she shuts up. It makes it feel like two distinct parts to me, instead of one cohesive song. I feel like the start needed more instruments or layering or something, and the there should've been more integration with the choir. Admittedly I listened to it whilst redoing my Animal Crossing living room so I will re-listen at some point, but yeah

5 likesSo I got to thinking that I thought - Imagine if you were making a TV series loosely based on Lala's life: The Singer [Working Title]. IMO, she's a pretty good subject because her story provides plenty of true, unhinged material, and she's enigmatic enough that you can also fill in the blanks with fun stuff. So with this in mind: who would you cast, what stories would you tell, etc? I'd cast Kristen Stewart as Chunk because she's boring enough to make that work, and Courtney Love as herself because nobody else is crackheaded enough to play Courtney but Courtney. Maybe Gwyneth Paltrow as Patty because she seems pretty insufferable (not that we have any evidence that Patty is insufferable, but I feel like she'd be the "villian" of the series because Lala doesn't get along with her) Gerald can play himself because he's hot despite being extremely sleazy, and I'd want him on the set just for entertainment Ooh Christian Bale as Ben because they're both angry and British I also want Keanu Reeves; I don't even know who he'd play but I want him there so I'd just make up a role for him

Unpopular Lana Opinions
Fingertips and 4 others liked a post in a topic by Elle
thissss lol. I was really going through it when NFR dropped and it essentially defined that mental breakdown for me (which is also why it's now really difficult to listen back to that album) To contribute on the note of UnpopOpins, I think that NFR is actually truly her saddest album. I feel like everyone always goes for Born to Die since that's what defined her as miss "Hollywood Sadcore" or even Ultraviolence, but the songs of NFR are extremely gut-wrenching in their meaning. California, The Greatest, Cinnamon Girl, Happiness is a Butterfly, Hope... all songs that are absolutely heartbreaking, and the sadness is almost.. more genuine, if that makes sense. Like, it's very raw. It's deeper than the songs on other albums in the sense that the pain is really coming out from her heart and soul. It's palpable x The first time I listened to California I was completely fine up until the second half of the chorus ("We'll do whatever you want, travel wherever how far..) and then I just completely burst into a full-blown sob session. It was so sudden and full force, it was like I had just watched someone get shot. While I was crying I was like, what tf just happened?? I was fine literally a second ago?? Whew, that song took me by surprise, and considering the situation I was going through, it hit waaaaaaay way way too close x -

4 likesthere's an episode where they digitize into the site/net and have to chase them and the leaks all have personas to the liking of their composition. they end up on lanaboards for an episode but go thru, and then at the end one leak gets attached to the site and finds its way here. and that'll be a bombastic version of Boom Like That so good it'll warrant some tiktok fiasco so large that Ben'll just want it released and then it will. and then a disco/ dance number at the end credits of that episode. someone credit me when this idea becomes reality her current beau can be a merman that she has to go to the beach to visit, or like he loses his voice for a week like in the little mermaid

4 likesNow we know the final, 4:27 'official' version is better all the way around. It's leagues more controlled and 'remastered' than the earlier versions, of which I have two, which were of 3:00 and 3:12 duration. Now I can imagine myself listening to it from time to time. It still broadens her reach, and that's a good thing for her.

4 likesI don't know what to think about this cover The arrangement is bad. The acapella is so baffling. It seems like they recorded the final track and then suddenly someon*e made a last ditch attempt to get Lana featured on it so she did the take in one go (and it shows) The vocals are a little too strained on Lana, and she doesn't quite know how to control her voice on the descends. I like that she tried and is finally using a whole register. The inclusion - and actually the whole soundtrack - is so naff... who is this for? The footy boys? The gays? BEN??? What's up with that orchestral track at the end? Lana del Rey, followed by indie guitar JAMIE WEBSTER. The pop song opener??? That 'Mazza' song??????? WHAT AND WHOMST IS THIS PRODUCT FOR. The piano is really nice and the choir is good but really really doesn't feel cohesive with Lana's vocals.
-
4 likesThank you. Yes it is better quality. Well, just like everyone else seems to have noticed, I too agree that the a cappella part goes on a bit too long before the orchestra kicks in and there’s little cohesion with the choir but there might be a reason for that (of course it’s just speculation on my part). I think that the instrumentals were entirely built around the documentary and the si bf was intended to be heard with it - not on its own like, say, young and beautiful. For example it doesn’t make any sense for the piano chords at the beginning to suddenly drop if not to fit in with the bit of the documentary we saw on IG.

I haven't found the deluxe edition as it hasn't been released in my country yet, but in the meanwhile I decided to listen (for the first time [!!]) to RINA and OMG, the way there is no single song there that is skip-worthy. Not even SAWAYAMA did that to me. Cancel me for finding that damn album just today. RINA is excellence. Magneficient. Talented, brilliant, etc. -
