I'm sorry, again I'm really really really trying my hardest to keep my composure here and not come off in any sort of way, but it was extremely inappropriate of you to speculate my expenses, which by the way, have been made up of things I've bought over the past 9 years. Just because in the past I was able to comfortably buy some things does not mean it has always been that way, or is still that way. Also, a cumulation of things bought over the span of 9 years isn't really a concrete display of my current state - especially given the times we're in. I'm a human, I have debt. Aside of LanaBoards related things that people may request to know, are my personal debts/expenses really anyone's business? No. So, respectfully, please do not speculate on them. Furthermore, I opened the floor on this matter to gather opinions rather than making a decision without consulting you all first (which I totally could have done by the way and would have had every right to, but I did not feel comfortable doing so.) This wasn't me being desperate for cash or begging for donations, this was me recognising a good opportunity for the site so I wouldn't have to pay as much out of pocket for the site. But I wanted opinions from those who make the community what it is. I'm not rich. Far from it. & while I willingly pay for this site and will continue to do so no matter what, I just wanted to gather opinions on the possibility of generating more revenue to go into the site - not to profit from. I believe there was a more respectful way to share your opinion against the vignette ads. Hi all, So, last night's thread about the proposed vignette ads turned a little dramatic. I decided to lock that thread and pick up here, also because I've thought of a different proposed option. I've heard all of you who are against vignette ads for whatever reason - technical issues, general annoyance, etc., and I'm listening. That being said, over 2/3 of members who voted in the poll said they were willing to tolerate the vignette ads to generate more revenue for the site. While I had proposed a $2 monthly cost for an Ad-Free version, I know some people were not open to that either, and that's completely understandable. So I've thought of a third option: Vignette ads will be implemented for all members and will be kept for those who are willing to tolerate them. Those who do not want the new vignette ads but are still willing to tolerate the regular banner ads we've always had can request to have the vignette ads removed from their account for free. There is the option of a $2 monthly Ad-Free version that will remove all forms of ads. With this new option, I'll be able to generate more revenue from those who are willing to tolerate the vignette ads, but those who do not want vignettes yet are still willing to tolerate our regular banner ads can have the vignette ads removed at no cost. All they would need to do is message my @admin account letting me know they would not like to see the vignette ads. I will also not have vignette ads be available for guests as I heard your concern about possible new members being deterred from registering due to vignette ads. I will update the terms users must agree to upon registering, and inform them that the site runs vignette ads, but they can choose to have them removed at no cost so they only see our normal banner ads. Let me know your thoughts on this different option. The vignette ads will be a great help to generate more revenue for those who can put up with them, but members who do not want the vignette ads will have the opportunity to have them removed at no-cost while still seeing our regular banner ads. I'm hoping this option is a bit more receivable, and I want to make sure users are not deterred from using the site or are tempted to use Ad-Blocker. Ad-Blocker can greatly harm our revenue, and banner ads are not intrusive and a free way to help support our site. So, instead, I can just block the vignette ads from being seen for certain members who wish to not see them. I'm going to repost the info included in the OP from my other thread for those who missed the last one so they can see the information about the implementation of the vignette ads: So yes, please let me know your thoughts in the replies to this thread. There is still about a week left of this automatic experiment implemented by Google Adsense, so I still have time to gather more thoughts and opinions before I make a final decision. I've added a new poll to this thread where there are four options: Yes, implement the vignette ads for members, and I will tolerate them. Yes, implement the vignette ads for members, but I will request to only see banner ads for free. Yes, implement the vignette ads for members, but I will pay for Ad-Free for no ads of all types. Finally had the time to read through this thread and... Ellen had to apologize multiple times for NO REASON? For financing the website we are all using? For putting a lot of work in it? I first clicked "No" on the poll, but after reading her post switched it to "Yes". Some users had some good ideas though and I'm pretty sure the mods will take them into consideration.

Okay idk how srs this is but this is Elle's site at the end of the day and she is absolutely entitled to buy things she likes AND run ads to pay for her site. Like she could take this shit doen tomorrow if she felt like it. I don't like ads either - as I said they crash my laptop - but I totally understand her asking the general populace. I just wanted to note on this since the thread took a weird turn especially after the budget conversation (and this is not directed at you, but towards the people speculating budgets. Your post is just a reason for me to explain this further, but this is not geared towards you.) I shared my site budgeting after someone asked because they thought it would be helpful to them to make a decision. What I had a problem with was then other people speculating my personal budget. I found that really inappropriate. My personal budgeting shouldn't be brought into a conversation about LanaBoards, even if I am the one who pays for it. Just wanted to explain a bit further why I was upset over that. & again this response is not directed to the user I'm quoting, but just a general thought I thought I should share since the topic of budgets has been discussed for a bit x

I've said it here before but Charli XCX made an entire era/album with a few cute homemade MV's during an pandemic. Dua came and fucking owned 2020, so did The Weeknd. I get Covid-19 fucked up alot of things planned for Chromatica's campaign but CLEARLY others were capable of adapting, even flourishing during these difficult times. No excuses, her team are at fault and so is she for the lack of adaptability. Okay all, well this was quite weird! The worst and most ironic part about this whole hoopla was that it has been severely distracting me from work I'm meant to be doing for my actual job that actually pays me, which is how I pay for LanaBoards roll-over costs in the first place A bit of a paradox there it seems. That being said, please continue leaving your thoughts in this thread, but I will probably be pretty spotty the rest of the night until tomorrow. Then, we can regroup. I've also proposed Option #3 in another post, which is something to consider for the possibility of a different middle-ground solution: Perhaps I'll make a new thread tomorrow discussing this other proposed option to see if this is more satisfactory to those opposed to the vignettes while the opportunity still exists to generate more revenue for the site with those who are fine with them, but again, if the bottom line is no vignette ads altogether, I completely hear you and understand. Hearing your thoughts and taking them into consideration was the purpose of this whole discussion anyway. I apologise for all this drama, and I really wish it didn't take that turn, but I know this is a difficult matter. Maybe this isn't the proper time to discuss all of this given the nature of this discussion, but I'll note a bit on this since the question was posed. For a few months now, I've been talking with some people about the possibility of LanaBoards merch through a store. The profits from the merch would go into the costs for the site. I will also hold the opportunity for anyone who would like to contribute their art to the merch designs as well, and they can receive a percentage of the profit if they wish. All and all it would be nice to generate some more revenue for the site, and if vignette ads aren't the way to go, perhaps merch could be a possibility. I also have thought about taking inspiration from other forums who do offer subscription packages (that can also be paid in lump sums) for users who want to donate to the site for fun incentives like coloured name tags, exclusive site themes, profile-card badges, etc. This is something I do intend to do just to offer fun perks for those who want to donate. With this, I won't be taking away anything that free Members have access to, but instead offer fun little extras as a thank you for donators x

Damn, you know I was just reminded of the line where Lana says “You thought I was rich and I am but not how you think.” I normally try to not get involved in the drama and just clown around instead but the speculation and, consequently, the extrapolation on someone’s personal and individual expenses/finances absolutely hit a remarkable low. It’s one thing to discuss your opinions on whether or not to have ads but it’s truly another to target and attack someone because of the way you perceive them. The discussion in this thread was never intended to be personal and I would urge that it stays this way. In my perspective owning a wide platform like Lanaboards is what makes them rich - rich in making friendships, in the ability to bring people together, rich in the way it can provide a voice for us introverts and an outlet for the extroverts, etc etc you get where I’m going. I look forward to reading each and everyone’s opinions on where you stand on the ads and I personally won’t attack you for them, and again I would urge you do the same...especially toward someone who simply wanted to hear your thoughts.

Hey hey hey, now I'm not deliberately asking for money here! I'm not trying to throw my hands in your pockets, nor forcefully shove ads in your face. The whole point of this thread was to ask your opinions on this before I did anything. Yes this would be a great opportunity, but it also isn't imperative that I do this. Yes it would be nice, but this isn't a life or death matter. Also as I've stated, I gratefully and willingly choose to host LanaBoards. & if sometimes that means paying out of pocket, then I gladly do so! Again, it is my pleasure to host LanaBoards. It is also my responsibility. I will continue to host LanaBoards no matter what, and no matter the cost. I'm not desperately struggling here, but more revenue for the site is never a bad thing. Again, I am not forcefully shoving ads in your face, or even requesting that users donate. I'm simply asking if running vignette ads would be tolerable so I can earn more revenue for the site, or if users are strongly opposed to it. No matter what, I will always continue to fund the site, even if Adsense doesn't completely cover it. I took on that duty when I bought the site in the first place! I have a great love for Lana, and part of showing that is by collecting merch and hosting a fan site. Nothing in this world comes free! But again, I do it all willingly. I am not complaining. I wanted thoughts about a possible opportunity. If I really didn't care or if I was super desperate, I would have silently implemented the ads permanently without saying anything at all. & this post isn't even me saying, hey I'm going to be implementing these ads for sure, leave some thoughts if you wanna. I think its my forth month on this forum? And I've been loving it. Chatting with other collecters, going delulu about nothing with crazy stans and talking about our favorite artists with other besties. This forum is very diverse and fun to use. I got to say I only go online once a day, so it could be different for full-time users. But clicking on a X to keep this amazing forum going really isnt that big of a deal? I voted yes because the adds really arent that annoying. So far I've only gotten them when I open my first thread or when I'm going through a lot of pages. So in conclusion, Elle you're doing great sweetie and you dont deserve to put your own money into this site

If they aren’t sketchy I don’t really mind them that much cause they’re closed in a second, but I do think it’ll probably lead to new users avoiding this site. If I were to find a new forum and the first thing I see is an ad taking up most of the screen I’d probs hesitate on making an account. It gives a very 123movies vibe. We already know it’s nothing scammy, but idk if new users will.

The ads are annoying, but not so annoying that I can't click out of them. I am willing to pay a small fee to disable them. I think guests should see the ads. I would rather our regular members not have to experience the ads, or see them less frequently. Webhosting is really expensive and I really sympathise. People complaining about them . . . you need to go outside for a second and remember how expensive it is to live lol. Elle is basically paying $100 extra rent a month so we can shit post 24/7. Could you afford to do that?
