I'm kind of hoping for no re-working on Nectar of the Gods, I listened to it last night while driving down the empty highway and it was just beyond gorgeous. If it is reworked I hope it's minimal because the spareness of that track is really powerful. I do hope Cherry Blossom is reworked though, it has so much potential but still feels a bit incomplete.

I really hope for some form of a reworking on NOTG and Cherry Blossom, even if its just remastering the originals. The versions we have right now almost sound too live to be on the album. Like, you can tell they were just recorded right there in one take (and not in the same way PWYC was). So even if the instrumentals are the same, I think they just need a little reworking so that they don't sound entirely out of place from the rest of the album.

Hello, I evaluated the stream statistics from Spotify to find out which are currently her most popular songs there. To be fair I didn't just take the absolute numbers, but also took into account when the song or album was released (assuming that the song was uploaded to Spotify at that time). So I divided the stream count (in millions) by the number of days since the release date (see rate in parenthesis). Chemtrails is eligible for 2022, but Blue Banisters would probably go to 2023 if it were to be nominated (and I don't think they're too concerned about songs or albums being a few months to a year old as much anymore, Lizzo's "Truth Hurts" was nominated quite a while after it was released). I do think it'd be nice to see Lana get recognition like that from the Academy, but it's not something I really expect after LFL and NFR lost their categories in 2018 and 2020.

thunder is more stripped down in the beginning. it starts with just piano and vocals really and as the song goes on it builds up and there are guitars and other instruments that are similar to the version we've already heard.

There's something so comforting about this album. It's so beautiful and the subdued production is exactly what was needed. It's hitting even harder as the seasons change and we face the anxiety of another long winter.

Sam at Turntable Lab wrote me back and said they're not sure what color the indie exclusive vinyl will be, but they don't think it's the red Target variant the other indie stores are copy-pasting. I think that Spotify overall is growing in popularity, and it is normal that albums get more streams just after the release, so that would explain lower counts for the older albums. Also, the popularity of songs changes over time. For example, on NFR, Happiness is a buttefly was initially one of the songs with lower stream count, probably because of its place near the end of the album. But while other songs were gradually losing popularity, the number of daily streams of HIAB was staying more or less the same, so in the last year it has been the second most streamed song of the album after Doin' Time.

I don’t think of BB as a fall album, but more of a spring album. There are a lot of references to flowers, including cherry blossoms that only bloom around March or April, the title track itself mentions the weather turning to May, Thunder sounds like a windy spring or summer day… A spring release would’ve been perfect! On the other hand, COTCC is a perfect fall album. I’ve adored this album since the beginning, but I’ve never loved it more than now. I wish Lana could’ve released it last year in September, and BB around May this year, or next year, but I understand why Lana didn’t want to wait to release it
