Notable works: "Yayo", "Pawn Shop Blues", "Kill Kill", among others. 1. Lana Del Ray a.k.a. Lizzy Grant Simple, bright compositions, focused on mood and melody rather than words. Recurrent colors: yellow, orange, white and black. 2. CLASSICAL PERIOD, MMXI—MMXV The original Lana Del Rey sound. Known for its emphasis on visuals, aesthetics and vocals. Image often more important than meaning. Themes of doomed love, drugs, mystery, desire, status, sadness and death. Notable works: "Video Games", "Born to Die", "Summertime Sadness", "Blue Jeans", "Young and Beautiful", "Ride", "West Coast", among others. a. Baroque Era 1. Born to Die 2. Paradise "The Baroque style is characterized by exaggerated motion and clear detail used to produce drama, exuberance, and grandeur. Baroque iconography was direct, obvious, and dramatic, intending to appeal above all to the senses and the emotions." Recurrent colors: blue, red, white and gold. b. Romantic Era 1. Known for mixing the old and new, inclusion of different collaborators, abstract concepts and synthetic production. Themes of self-discovery, escapism, the future and the world. Notable works: "Love", "Cherry", "High By The Beach", "Get Free", among others. CONTEMPORARY PERIOD, MMVXIII—present Also known as the Singer-Songwriter Era. The new Lana Del Rey sound. Known for its humorous, poetic lyricism and stripped-back production. Elimination of older ideas, images and sentiments in turn of newer, more personal interests. Emphasis on words and musicality. Themes of everyday life, adulthood, trauma, sociocultural issues, friendship and family. Notable works: "The greatest", "Venice Bitch", "Hope Is A Dangerous Thing", "Mariners Apartment Complex", "White Dress", "Dealer", "LA Who Am I to Love You", among others. a. Postmodernism 1. Norman Fucking Rockwell! "Is, on some level, ironic; challenges barries between high and low; shows disdain of the often unquestioned value of structural unity; considers music as relevant to cultural, social and political contexts; includes references to music of many traditions and cultures; considers technology as a way to preserve and transmit music; embraces contradictions; presents multiple meanings." Recurrent colors: white, black, grey, green and orange. c. Casualism 1. Blue Banisters 2. Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd "A new type of postminimalism that features a self-amused, anti-heroic style. Interested in a studied, passive-aggressive irresoluteness that reflect wider insights about culture and society. Works might appear unfinished or incomplete, intentionally awkward, physically fragile and unstable, rejecting the display of conventional skills." Notable for the random, unpolished nature of its lyricism, composition and vocal styles. Recurrent colors: blue, brown, beige and yellow.

So... Maybe I'm overestimating the concept of this era.... But since her comments about Beg For You (basically being the song that samples another which all female singers at Atlantic are expected to do) I feel as though everything about this era has been deliberate. Launching the era with OUT OUT, it's very common that female pop stars have to some sort of smash hit before the label is willing to push ahead with an album cycle. And is it a coincidence that Charli and co. just happened to drop this track before the launch of her comeback single? It did the job, it went top 10. Good Ones was the big shiny pop video, with the very current 80s trend throughout. Kind of debuted an image change from Charli (as we knew her in the last era), another thing female pop stars are expected to do. Everybody loves a comeback! The "iconic" video, the serves etc etc. Then New Shapes, something a little more left field, still pop but feels more alternative? We know labels love to pivot when a single doesn't smash like they expected. And the inclusion of Chris and Caroline feels like the sort of alt pop pandering her label would do. Obviously we know they're her friends but keep in mind that this would be a concept. Then we get Sweat, everybody loves a demo or unreleased track that doesn't make the final cut. Would a pop girl album rollout be complete without an orphaned single or abandoned track? Charli is no stranger to this when we look back at the 2016/2017 album rollout that eventually ground to a hault. The album artwork itself, again a lot of pop stars have a cohesive vision when it comes to singles/videos etc. And somehow the album art tends to veer off into something that loosely ties in. I love the album cover and think it's one of Charli's best... But it's quite different to the single art we've been getting. Then we have Baby, the rumoured 3rd single, the one that's been teased after a quiet period. We've been given a snippet of the music video and yet nothing? We all know record labels love to change their minds last minute when they think they could potentially have a hit with another song. ie. Beg For You. The song that was written for the artist and has a classic sample, screams hit. The sudden third single with last minute music video etc. Whilst Baby sits rotting away. I could be reaching but it feels like this was Charli's intenion, to give us a condensed pop girl album campaign, and an authentic one at best, which details all the shit a female singer has to go through just to be able to release a body of work. And I am thoroughly enjoying the hypothetical chaos.

I genuinely think she just made a more polished/less experimental pop album & is trolling with the whole sellout commentary thing like I really don’t think this concept has any kind of depth to it. She’s just having a more traditional pop era.

I honestly really liked the way Rob incorporated piano on Sweet Carolina! Also, it’s cool that we have confirmation that *something* is in the works (possibly for the next album). That being said, I hope it’s something refreshing sonically for LDR9! I’d love for Emile Haynie and/or Mike Dean to be involved in this one with Rob

this era has had like 4 different aesthetics by now i’m so confused

i'm not saying her new album is actually bland and shallow - i'm saying that she is trying to make it out to be that way, like "the role" of her new album for this era is to be that "bland & shallow pop music" - it's like the concept, and it's brilliant in my opinion, and not many people get what she is doing. You see how some stans complaining about "her going back to basic pop music" and those shits after she dropped good ones? lol like i said, this is psychological intentional - just like Lady Gaga's ARTPOP years ago when she made an ad like "don't buy LG's new album ARTPOP" & "Lady Gaga is over". Charli also tweeted something like "what if my new album is a social commentary on pop music or just that i love to make pop music" - it's all satirical. So if her new album is bland & shallow for you, then that's the point & you'll get it, but once you get it, then this could be one of the best era she ever served. Just saying.

I don't think we're getting a long break from her. She deserves to rest of course but she loves to write and record music, it's not like it's her label making her pump out records every year. Maybe we are not getting the full thing this year but I'm sure she'll release a single or two (even though I still think LDR9 is coming this September )

i feel like when u get rite down to the heart of it, the woman's been creating music in a way that takes u out of the banality of life, to then enjoying life for what it is. and most importantly, caring for it and knowing the importance of being where you are rn and honoring it. if u take out the veil of entitlement that a lot of people see her thru, you'll realize even more that she's been doin this for a long time under the radar. waaaaay before it was trendy. they don't really care, they just wanna be entertained, so her detractors find ways to weasel themselves in disgracefully. time'll prove again and again how her music and artistry is a caring message. they just don't know how to properly appreciate her. so it's really more on them. i feel like if ur gonna criticize someone, at least make it interesting constructive, and most importantly, be self-aware enough to not look like a total ass/ understand ur role in the equation for at least the principle of it. otherwise ur just complaining which is a waste of everyone's time. oh and also down for Rob being more involved on the piano. I think we'll get a single this Summer at the latest. It's already been confirmed that her DNC jacket was teasing a future project, and she's already spoken about the album to fans. I don't think she'd tease the next album 2-3 years in advance. She may have learned from her mistakes with COCC and BB by not blurting out the announcement of her next while it's still very much in progress, but I have no doubt that something will come a few months after her FJM collab

Visions will always be my all time favorite Grimes album i think, she hasn't made anything to top it since and the direction shes going I don't see her doing it anytime soon Halfaxa Geidi and Darkbloom ep I also adore so much, theres something in those albums/ep thats so good even though they are rough and messy. Biggest unpopular opinion though is that I just do not like Art Angels at all LMAO Its so universally liked too so its weird, like I just don't get it?? and probably never will REALiTi demo is fucking next level though I love that version and Flesh Without Blood live with HANA is amazing too Not feeling the new stuff, not that big into the club music. But the Angels On Earth snippet no that, THAT was good.. like if this next era can serve only that level of quality then I'm gonna really enjoy the new albums. But until then just gonna wait and see how it unfolds
