I’ve seen the video a few times now. It really is fucking amazing, one of her best. Definitely the best concept she’s had for a video, love the footage, LOVE the broken up song with all the extra piano segments. It’s really next level video making. This era creatively is so good.

This is interesting, I just watched the rest of his interview where he talks about Lana. Apparently the American Music Awards wanted him and Lana to open the show with a performance of Summertime Sadness on top of the tallest building in LA with an orchestra but she turned it down, she also turned down appearing at coachella with him. He also said that she blocked the release/radio promotion of his Young and Beautiful remix because it was on track to do even better than the summertime sadness remix but she didn't want that level of attenion and success. This makes sense with comments Lana made in her 2017 Complex interview where she said she didn't like that she had no involvement with the production of what is statistically her biggest hit and that she didn't want all the attention that came with a big hit song. Mind you this was happening in 2013 when Lana was peak depressed and recording Ultraviolence

I love everything about this video. There are so many tiny details to dive into, but one thing I really appreciate is how Jon's 'character' (for want of a better word) is recontextualised, from being this creepy presence in the original song, to being a fully positive force in the video (as the opposite of the nameless old creepy-guy). Also, that magical moment when they are at the top of the stairs sharing a joke/moment, and it's impossible to tell whether they're the 'actual' Jon and Lana, or the MV Jon and Lana, or if those categories exist at all. Speaking of recontextualising - I think we all imagined the line about sitting on the sofa was about being wrecked at home, somewhat like a part 2 of 'Is This Happiness' or something, but seeing it as a therapists couch/seat changes the meaning again. Add to that it being Lana as Marilyn ...

I just don't know how to... not be like a robot, I just need to like ''shoot, shoot, shoot.. shoot shoot''. It's just like not working anymore for me.

literally where? because of all the celebrities i've ever seen on the internet, Charli is the most uncringe and true to herself. She made a Lanaboards account before to tease P4U, She's educated on leaks, She was a tumblr mixtape girl, She makes these incredibly ironic public statements as jokes, She always talks about her experiences more casually than anyone else Imo... so what She wanted to make a private account for personal posting...She's literally just like us

I've watched this video so many times. The symbolism throughout, the styling, the way it's broken apart to reveal the underbelly of the filming process. EVERYTHING IS STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL!!! I can't think of anything else to say about it. Ps. I remember Lana mentioning something about the White Dress music video before it dropped. Something along the lines of "getting to work with a director who knows how to make real music videos", bla bla bla. I couldn't find the actual quote from Lana. Who knows, maybe I'm remembering it wrong or something. Anyway, the end result of White Dress was ho-hum compared to this. Rich Lee is the shit! Lana should have saved that quote for Rich Lee because the two of them make unbelievable art together.

Has the symbolism of the actualy necklaces been discussed here? I never thought of it till this guy (who does amazing Lana reactions btw) talked about it, from 6:00 onwards. He noticed that wearing a necklace in every scene represents being owned or being bought and not being able to make your own decisions, then in the final scene as she is wearing no necklace, she is finally free. It's almost the most obvious thing in the video and I missed it!

The faces aren't the same but their stories all end tragically And that's the price of fame A tale as old as time You'd be a pretty little fool to think exceptions to the rule just walk around like you and me - Dark But Just A Game

Did you read my post I said double entendre.. I understood the apparent blood diamond metaphor and Black Dahlia reference I was just saying I think there are more layers to this. This is very clearly one of Lana's most thought out videos ever. Every shot is thought out and has a meaning (imo)

White fire, cinnamon on my teeth And I'm sittin' at the stoplight northern town I feel lucky I drive somewhere out of range, I don't know where White noise coming out of my brain Turns off for nothing the fact that I only just now clocked that her 'driving somewhere out of range' is radio range and the white noise is the sound of a radio going out of tune because she's too far away from home to pick up the signal of her favourite radio station. Like, It's Lana, feeling lucky because she's moving from her home town to LA or somewhere similar and being unable to turn off that radio static because then that means she's alone with her own silence and thoughts.

This.. it just seems so oddly specific to the scene of Lana singing for all the people but really wanting to leave

Yes, they are! The two women in the back row are professional studio & live background vocalists Chelsea “Peaches” West (Janet Jackson, Jennifer Hudson, Celine Dion, Brandy, Nicki Minaj, Tori Kelly, Chaka Khan, K. Michelle, Kanye West) and Jasmine “Jazzy” Patton (Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Mary J Blige, Post Malone, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, JoJo, K. Michelle, Kanye West) The woman in front of them is Porctia Symone, a dancer who is replacing Ashley. Alex, her other dancer, is still part of the team. Both BGVs have won Grammys for their contributions, so they’re obviously very talented! I’m looking forward to see what they add to the show experience x

LEAK THE OTHER CB OUTTAKES... someone with Toy Chest claimed to have "King of the Arcade" too and said that it was Ball Pit and even gave lyrics: can't see eye to eye, it's like we're in different worlds his is pixel perfect, mine's a swirl of colors, hurled hopefully this is reliable and we will be getting her soon 😭

I had the chance to finally watch the video all the way through and WOW. I'll be honest the interruptions initially irritated me a bit, but watching it again, I get it. I hope she works with this director again, this was a true work of art.

I think the diamonds falling in to blood is an obvious reference to the industry, loss of innocence, and a blood diamond metaphor etc but.. to me it looks more like wine than blood. Lana might be making a double entendre referencing the bad side of the industry and perhaps how alcohol played a part in that within the lens of her career

The part with all of the necklaces falling and then the shot of her getting a Hollywood star... chills. Amazing.

the new music video is awkward and uncomfortable as fuck, her music went to complete shit in 2021 after future starts now, her lyrics have absolutely no depth or charisma whatsoever, her label has no clue what to do with her, her outfits are always questionable, and she works with the most disgusting people in the industry in a pathetic attempt to boost her fame when in reality the bunhead era will always be her most likable and i doubt she’ll ever be able to top it because she completely sold out for notoriety

fishtail would be really good if she chose someone else to produce it: the cheap beats, the autotune, and the rest of the instrumental for the most part are just not doing it for me. but i still love the lyrics so much and i think some of her vocals are really beautiful, especially when she sings “if you’re not coming home to me”
