Revisiting N1A and White Roses is such a Charli song. No one else could pull that off the way she did. -
6 likesI find her unreleased songs in Lana Del Rey era (+ AKA) too perfect that they should be untouched. I think she should rework anything that's unfinished like Sugary Sweet and Ave Maria (Ave Maria's production is too godly to leave it behind) or something like that (Valley Of The Dolls is too perfect to be reworked again, sorry). I think she should also lyrically re-use the pre-chorus in the first Lust For Life demo, the "but it funny how some things change..." and "wild-caged animal" part. But my favorite Lana unreleased is A Star For Nick and it would be super cool to see if it has a new production which isn't totally acoustic. Like with some strings and maybe some hazy synths + electric guitar behind. I love how passionately you love Barrie collabs, honestly as you should they're such amazing songs

6 likesThe "To Lana Del Rey" at the top has me screaning... this is insane and cringe. And condescending. To mother. And so embarrassing to make this so public. They needed to have just dm'd her all this because trust me she is not gonna react with humility and grace to having her own fans basically write a petition telling her she's ignorant and seeing it after it's already been seen by thousands of people 💀

I truly respect her wish for privacy, but I also really wish we'd get more looks into her creative process every now and then to make up for how little anyone sees or hears from her. Like, we don't need to know what she buys at the grocery store, who designs her underwear, or where she bought her latest keychain.. We just want to get a closer look at what it looks like when she's in her creative space. For someone who wants her fans to be so connected to her, she allows surprisingly few opportunities for that these days. But I guess that's the double edged sword of her career- she wants connection, but not the attention and expectations that it comes with. -

5 likesIt's interesting that the photoshot is her in the room, as the album sounds like secrets said inside. It's a personal album that she didn't need to force. She's wanted to tell these reflections for a long time, but only now did it come out in such an organic way (Blue Banisters was a beautiful bridge). We wanted to hear the intense adventures, but it's the type of album that a woman, at her age, would make. We are still so young and so inexperienced. We have so much to learn, that I think about how this album will sound when we are adults and the same questions presented are relevant to us. Another thing: it's bizarre how her discography, in chronology, sounds like a coming-of-age and discovery story, which, if she wanted to end it here, would be a great ending. At the same time, it seems like just the beginning of much more to come! It's crazy to think that she's on her NINTH album and still maintains the same level of interest from the public. We WANT to see what she does next. In the last two years, she has resurrected her career.

She already explained this whole thing in her 2020 Billboard interview I started writing After School in 2017 with the intention of it being connected to K-12 as a little bonus thing, but I kept writing and so the 3 songs I intended on releasing ended up turning into a 7-song EP. -

I don’t usually do informative posts, but this caught my eye. There is a lot of confusion about the K-12/After School sessions and what is for which project. *1 Melanie originally claimed K-12 was done around July 16th, 2016, with only deluxe tracks still being worked on. - we know this isn’t true to the final tracklist, as Recess and Show & Tell weren’t done by this time. Some claim Show & Tell was an After School concept originally, but I don’t think that’s true. *2 May 2017 - Melanie states that she’s “finishing up bonus tracks”. *3 and in August 2017, in an interview, is summed up to saying: “standard tracklist is being mastered and that she’s finishing up the bonus tracks now”. Erase Her, Notebook, and Trophy were all recorded in June 2017, making them bonus tracks to K-12 originally, by Melanie’s own word. * She did say this in 2020 on Instagram: “I’ve been working on the After School EP since 2017." However, I interpret this to mean when Notebook was recorded. - I doubt she had the direct concept of After School when the June 2017 sessions were being recorded, especially when she refers to the deluxe for K-12 as “bonus tracks” in August 2017. 1: lost the source, but is factual. 2:https://melanie-martinez.fandom.com/wiki/K-12_(album) 3:https://www.billboard.com/music/pop/melanie-martinez-interview-cry-baby-second-album-7904990/ -

Right? I cannot picture the Melanie that wrote A Million Men, Rough Love, Birthing Addicts, etc. writing shit like Class Fight or Nymphology. Just look at these(written around 28YO).. VS this for example(written when she was still a kid, with no help). We all know what made a lot of her art so special was the maturity and depth behind childish themes/titles. And her lyrics aren't all bad now, they just haven't evolved half as far as I expected them to. The leaks show that she's still capable of amazing writing if she lets herself outside of the box though so hopefully she ditches the forced concepts next time.. I can't handle another mediocre album from her. -
