13 likesSeptember 29th, 2020: Lana Del Rey's first hardcover poetry book 'Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass' has been released worldwide. This is Lana's first hardcover poetry book release with publishing company Simon & Schuster. The entirety of Lana's advance from the book will be donated among three different organizations, including the Navajo Water Project. Hardcover ● Apple eBook ● Kindle eBook “Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass is the title poem of the book and the first poem I wrote of many. Some of which came to me in their entirety, which I dictated and then typed out, and some that I worked laboriously picking apart each word to make the perfect poem. They are eclectic and honest and not trying to be anything other than what they are and for that reason I’m proud of them, especially because the spirit in which they were written was very authentic.” —Lana Del Rey Lana’s breathtaking first book solidifies her further as “the essential writer of her times” (The Atlantic). The collection features more than thirty poems, many exclusive to the book: Never to Heaven, The Land of 1,000 Fires, Past the Bushes Cypress Thriving, LA Who Am I to Love You?, Tessa DiPietro, Happy, Paradise Is Very Fragile, Bare Feet on Linoleum, and many more. This beautiful hardcover edition showcases Lana’s typewritten manuscript pages alongside her original photography. The result is an extraordinary poetic landscape that reflects the unguarded spirit of its creator. Share your thoughts on the new poetry book below! Read the Pre-Release Thread (Those who request a free, illegal download link to the digital version of the book will receive a Warning Point. Those who post illegal direct download links to the digital version of the book will be banned. Please respect Lana & her art!)

Time for some K-12/After school appreciation bc im over being ungrateful Detention and Highschool Sweethearts are my favourite dance music videos ever. Yes, she did that. Highschool Sweethearts and Strawberry Shortcake are in her best songs. Maybe i just have this opinion because i think they go so well with Cake, which was one of her most underrated. All the After School EP songs add something unique to her discography. I like all the songs for real and with every listen I like them more. Brain & Heart is now my favourite song from her entire discography. It has already helped me make an important decision in my life. I couldn't ever ask for more from an artist tbh The Bakery might actually help some people who are working in a bakery right now because I also know stories of people who have had the shittest hardest time working in one. I don't know why those places can just be so awful and stressful, putting so much pressure on young workers to get out of their social comfort zone while still acting robotic like??? Despite what some people think, I think her aesthetic has definitely evolved. It's actually quite sophisticated, ethereal and luscious now. Crybaby aesthetic, and especially K-12 aesthetic, seem sort of rigid in comparison to what she has now. Yet she has let those old aesthetics grow, not just thrown them out. -

She really lost her ability to write good melodies. Cry Baby had amazing melodies that would be stuck in my mind 24/7. Her vocals on the new ep are amazing, but the melodies just sound basic. Did she make any effort matching the lyrics with the melody? -

6 likesjust picked up my copy! though i read the whole book yesterday (bought the ebook from an australian site). "thanks to the locals" is def my fav of the "new" (ie ones we hadn't heard or seen before) poems, really resonated with me. i love that they scanned in her typewritten manuscript, it's beautifully done book design-wise. and while we already knew most of the poems it was really nice to read them in her own formatting/line breaks– though i couldn't help but hear her voice in my head while reading the ones on the audiobook version! i love this project a lot– even the "cringey" lines (ie the end of "sugarfish") feel honest and sweet and very lana. can't wait for behind the iron gates and am so happy to finally have Violet...really hope there will be at least one more interview about it like the recent Vogue one. Would also be so cool if she did a reading/q & a online for the release (somehow i doubt this, esp bc she's prob getting ready to release chemtrails) and agree with what another user said about raffling off the hand-bound copies to raise $ for a charity.

5 likesThis is completely unrelated to the poetic content of the book, since I haven't had time to delve into it just yet. However, from an aesthetic standpoint the whole thing is really beautiful. I love the images, the costum oil paintings as well as Lana's photos in it. I wasn't sure about how I felt with the cover/sleeve of the book, but I now really like the oranges painting and golden letters. Also, might sound weird, but I like the paper they chose for the book, it's kinda thick but it has this sort of newspaper feel to the touch? It's quite the neat little package. Well done Lana. The only thing I don't particularly like is the selfie at the back, but it's whatever.
