Black Bathing Suit theory I posted this on my fanpage on Instagram, but wanted to share it here too. I rarely believe in rumors or even post about them, but I read something saying Black Bathing Suit has the same vibes as High By The Beach and something caught my attention; back in 2018, when she came to my city, she went to the beach wearing a black bathing suit, but didn’t take her clothes off because of paparazzi since felt uncomfortable, so as High By The Beach music video is focused on the way paparazzi invade her privacy and make her insecure, it totally makes sense she would sing about that day. She loves coming here and she must’ve wanted to enjoy her day at the beach, but couldn’t because of it, so I wonder if the song is a big “fuck you, I just wanted to have a nice time but couldn’t show my black bathing suit because of your cameras” and it breaks my heart…this album is so personal, it’s very close to her poetry and it shows she’s maturing and growing, so I’m proud of her for singing about her thoughts and experiences like that. Even if the song is not about that situation, I wish she wouldn’t “have” to go through this just for being who she is… Btw the picture is fully informative, I am NOT supporting their work and the way they made Lana feel uncomfortable, I’m just showing you what happened so we can relate my text with the image and we can discuss the subject. I’m glad she had a nice time with her friends and some fans despite the situation though :-)

If BTD was the exact same, I don’t think so. Occidental societies have taken a shift into cancel culture and she would be heavily criticized by woke culture for not being « feminist » enough, even though she is telling her own story and that chapter is one of 20 year-old young woman in the 2000s. i do wonder though what the musical scene would look like today if we never had Lana, especially on the alt-pop scene.

oh definitely, boz’s crown slipped heavily since arcadia and i question how reliable he is/was this era. also him pretending to know anything about BBS when he didn’t know shit still doesn’t sit right with me. that’s why i’m going with they were either just slightly altered or not changed at all to not get my hopes up. but i also believe there’s a very high chance he’s wrong again and that they were all changed/different versions than those we have. + we know she has multiple versions off each song, we don’t even know which version will end up on the album anyway

So I just have to sayyyyy, I'm honestly so excited for this album, and I was so excited, & pleased, with Chemtrails. And I know that a lot of people expected more from Chemtrails for production reasons etc, (also understandable) and were a bit disappointed, but I was very happy with it. SO to see what LANA has up her sleeve (ya ballads n yada yada, but probably more too?), I'm not even sure what to expect!!!! She is unpredictable. For some people, its easy to rank her albums, this one is superior and this one isn't (Ultraviolence is my #1: probably nostalgia, L4L: last BUT I still love it) but for me, its more about adding another amazing album to the Lana discography to listen to. Like, I remember when I was 23 and only had b2d, Paradise, and Ultraviolence (+any unrealsed I had discovered at the time) (ya I'm old) to listen to, on my Ipod. And now I have all these songs + poetry. Anyways, 4 singles have been on repeat, n LOVE u all! Blue Banisters in 20 days (and I haven't listened to any of the unreleased, so...... )

i really like @Paradiamonds theory about black bathing suit, i know a lot of us are anticipating it will be a sexy bop, but i think it could very well possibility be about something else, i've heard speculations that it could be about her high school days, which would be a reference to this is what makes us girls, maybe it's about her relationship with fame & the paparazzi, like paradiamonds suggested, or something else entirely, since this album is so deep & confessional, it wouldn't be a surprise if black bathing suit was the same way, it's length is giving me heroin vibes

I still doubt that this is true. Nothing about that song fits the UV era, neither the wiritng nor the composition. I could see this being a Methamphetamines/ Old Money situation were the melody was an early draft from around 2013 ort hat she reused some lyrics like the chorus but I can't see the actual song coming from that era

Gurl, same. I believe that the only line dating back to the UV era from that song is, well, Let me love you like a woman. I really think that song was in her phone notes and not much more, like a very early draft. A bit like Hope, that she had been writing for three years before meeting Jack. maybe If You Lay Down With Me (Lie Down?!? Not sure) was just also a rough draft…

And this is what BOZ said. He also stated that the longest track on the record was TextBook (which is not) and said that Arcadia had nothing but piano... I don't wanna sound delusive but the version we have of Nectar of the Gods is 4 seconds longer than the BB version + Rick is credited in Cherry Blossom. BOZ could be wrong again

living legend was reworked too (i forgot in which way) but it did get a makeover. cherry blossom and nectar are the ones that are supposedly the same. but since she has 10 versions of every song we don’t really know which one will end up on the album + she can still have added new vocal takes etc

This is gonna be controversial af, but what are the songs that in your opinion, shouldn't have made the cut. Not only the ones you hate, but the ones that are fillers or that just don't fit in the project they were released. In the later case, you can suggest a better fitting project where they should've been released instead. For me: MDM is too good for BTD, should've been on HM or even UV. Carmen should've been on UV, TNC on COCC, TNBAR scrapped or on LFL.

Am I the only one who likes DLMBM? It's a good cover. Also, I really don't see it as a closer, I see it as a post credits part of the album. It's like the story ended with Swan Song and DLMBM's only what we hear as soon as the big screen turns to black.

I'm not sure about BTD, but I think UV would do a lot better if she released it today. I think more people are into the slow tempo rock now than they were in 2014. 2014 was more about upbeat indie music with the sudden boom in using a ukulele for example. But then again, UV thrived on Tumblr culture which I believe furthered it's success, and Tumblr hasn't been the same in recent years so idk how that would play out but yeah. Regarding the 'controversial' lyrics, Lana would def get cancelled but I don't believe cancellation hinders an artist's success as many would lead you to believe
