Given that both insiders told us that the second half of the album is stronger than the first one and yet we’ve already been gagged by tracks 2 and 4, I think that we’re going to get a truly great record. So many tracks have been highlighted by them: The Grants (full and gorgeous), Candy Necklace (massive), Kintsugi (best song of all-time according to our favourite insider), Fingertips (stunner), Paris, Texas (delicate highlight), Grandfather (BOZ’s favourite), Let The Light In (singled out by both insiders), Fishtail (the potential fan favourite of the album), Peppers (a slutty vibey bop apparently), Taco Truck (an outro for the books). Even Sweet is praised for its beautiful strings, Kintsugi thinks that Margaret is actually great, and BOZ adores the instrumentation on both interludes. This album is shaping up to be one of the most important works in Lana’s career.

A&W just got the Best New Track from Pitchfork, the biggest streaming day on Spotify for her ever and a 94/100 score on AOTY (and there aren't many Lana fans on that site), but apparently it's us who's exaggerating just because this is "something new" for Lana, please.

After listening to A&W over and over since it came out I still can't get over how dark this song is. It's truly chilling. Also this puts the title track on a whole different perspective and really makes me understand what Lana meant when she said this album had no room for colour. It's VERY black, grey and white. As a long time fan (a decade...) it still feels unreal that we're getting closer and closer to her family/personal history this many years in. For God's sake, the intro to this album is titled "The Grants". And as someone said earlier in this thread, it feels like while Chemtrails was mostly leftovers tracks, the clear standout from that album "White Dress" is very much telling of this new direction in songwriting Lana had been tapping into. With Blue Banisters, I think she was just beggining to see the full potential of this new style and a lot of the new songs on that record seem superficial to me. Now, with this new album it really feels like we're going DEEP. And it's dark as hell, man.

it's not because it's brand new it's because the song is just mind blowing and I'm sorry for those who can't feel it

Ugh you guysssss. A&W is just phenomenal - I know I’ve made like, 5 different posts just saying that. But it’s the utmost truth. She did not hold back at all - sonically, melodically, lyrically, all of it. I obviously loved the last two records so much but I haven’t felt this way about a song since I heard Venice Bitch. Enjoy the music and don’t let meaningless discourse and nitpicking get in the way. Focus on what’s to love, which is that we got a fucking amazing 7 minute track!

A&W is so showstopping I feel like this is gonna be my favorite song off the album. It’s truly one of her best songs. It gave me a lot more excitement for the rest of the album. Even though the title track’s amazing, it wasn’t too different from Blue Banisters so my expectations for the album weren’t crazy high. A&W’s a total shift. And it’s not even because of the (absolutely insane and amazing) Jimmy part of the song. Even the American Whore part by itself would’ve been one of her best songs. The first 2 lines alone give me chills. The Jimmy part does take the song to a whole nother level though.

I want to take the time to appreciate that this is the first LDR album cycle in a while that feels like 95% of us are united and excited for When I first read the W magazine interview where she contrasted the album to Honeymoon, brought up Swan Song, revealed her automated songwriting process for this record, and shared the opening lines to Fingertips, a song that seems like is super special to her since she mentioned it so many times now, I knew her magnum opus/Ray of Light moment was upon us. I just didn't know it would unite LanaBoards

Can we appreciate the first part? I see everybody marveling at Jimmy and I get it - I love it too but in my humble opinion the first part is better. It's giving dbjag & dtwd for me and I'm here for it

Man Lana really came through for the fans who were heavily sexualized too young and just kind of ran with it for too long. Labeled as whores by the same people who we rejected find me at the club jimmy beam

honestly my favorite part is the "okay" at 3:45 when the transition begins. It sounds like both "okay enough with the ramblings" and "okay here we go"

Can we talk about how progressive rock the intro to A&W is It feels like a Pink Floyd track is about to begin

51200 minutes left till album release... if you start streaming A&W and Ocean Blvd on repeat, you'd have given both songs 4600 streams by March 24 now, if all of LB join the mass stream, there are bigger chances for Lana to get #1 Let's get to work, ladies!

The lyrics are "official" as in they come from her label but they are just transcribed by an intern and sent to the press, they aren't from Lana herself and not necessarily accurate.

i haven't been very active in this thread, but i just wanted to express my thoughts on A&W, firstly, this song is most definitely already one of my favorite lana songs of all-time, it is INCREDIBLE, it is dark, complex, psychedelic, 5+ minutes long, abstract, yet specifically honest, it's insane, it's something we haven't heard yet from lana at all, there are so many things i love about it, it feels like every other past album, song, and period of lana's artistry has led up to this particular song/moment in her discography, we couldn't have this track without all of the others which came before it, A&W is very revealing, yet still keeps it abstract, and wondering more about her past and her history, that's what is amazing about lana is that we know so much about her, yet she is still so mysterious and elusive, there's so many questions you'll still have after listening to this track if i'm correct, i believe the pitchfork review of this track described the second part of the song as a feeling of accepting yourself as an outcast, and i've been holding onto that, because this track is so eerie, it's not just a song detailing her frustrations and her troubles throughout her life, it feels dirty, there's a taboo undertone lingering in the energy of this song, there's a very subtle, yet palatable essence of horror and despair in this track which makes it so much more rich and more of an experience, i feel like i can relate to the grimy chaos in this track, but also the parts of this track that feel more careless and almost ironically enjoying and embracing the mess and the chaos, because if you've dealt with complicated, strange experiences, or are just a complicated, strange person, you probably feel like, or even know, that that will never change, so you just have to face the darkest parts of yourself, and try your best to view them as something that is beautiful, something that makes you who you are, and sometimes, that's how you survive

If we could stop generalizing others, putting people into categories, and letting others enjoy or critique music without labelling, we all would get along much more. Are there people who tend to instantly fall in love with new Lana music? Yes. That doesn't mean they haven't been critical towards Lana's music or aren't being objective. Vice versa! Not everyone is being edgy if they share a valid critique about a song. However, we all should work on being less judgmental towards other people's perceptions about music. It puts other people on this forum on defense mode and it leads to pointless fighting and chaos. Just because a song doesn't resonate with you lyrically, doesn't mean people are blinded by the hype. And like I said, vice versa; just because you really love a song, doesn't mean the track should be immune from criticism. We all should work on expressing our own thoughts and opinions on the music, and stop worrying about other people and putting them into unfair categories that creates wars of ego. End rant.

another thought i keep having is, the only color i associate with AW is black. like there's no glimpse of something light and bright at all. maybe that's what lana meant when she said there's no room for colors

https://www.vice.com/en/article/7k8gja/brianna-ghey-killing https://www.thepinknews.com/2023/02/13/what-happened-to-brianna-ghey-trans-death-warrington/ https://www.thepinknews.com/2023/02/14/brianna-ghey-trans-girl-killed-government/ I've not seen anyone here talking about it so I thought I'd post. A really heartbreaking story. She was so young. I have no sympathy for the two children who murdered her, they were responsible for their actions and deserve to be put away for a long, long time, but it's horrible to see 3 young people's lives completely fucked thanks to the unending hate and vitriol spread by the UK media and scum like Joanne Rowling. It's been disgusting seeing the media coverage of the story as well. The UK media, both left and right wing, has a heavy transphobic bias and rumor has it, several newspapers interviewed her dentist so they could find her deadname to use in their articles - only changing it after backlash. They made a conscious effort to deadname a 16 year old murder victim. One publication edited their article from 'teenage girl' to 'transgender teen' and edited out all reference to her being a girl when they found out she was trans. On the flip side, some newspapers didn't even mention she was trans, or at least emphasised that there was no clear motive, because god forbid they be held accountable for the results of their hate campaigns. They should really be celebrating to see their efforts finally come to fruition. Not to mention that if a trans person was a suspect for murder, you'd never hear the end of it... but when a trans person is a victim of a violent crime it's suddenly not an important fact. It makes me so fucking furious and what's worse is that it isn't even being treated as a hate crime by the police, which it clearly is. As a trans person living in the UK I'm honestly terrified.

It's interesting that people say the first part is very "folky" it reminds me a lot more of 90s indie rock/ grunge music

a&w is a good song that allows for a lot of people to interpret what it means some people like the superior first part, and some people like the very boppy second part, and both opinions are valid and some people aren't particularly fond of the song, and as long as they respect lana's intentions regardless of whether they enjoy the song or not, i don't really see a problem with it *takes a firm look at everyone *

Hello happy Thursday! I hope y’all are still streaming the fuck out of A&W. It plays on repeat for me and I just can’t get bored of it. There’s something new with each listen like going to an art museum over and over again.
