celebrities out of touch? all i know is in her heart she does not have hatred or harm for anyone. she may align herself with the wrong stance, but as she always says and her fans keep refusing to listen to, her intentions are always in the right place and i trust her on that. and i do not look up to artists for being a moral, ethical or political beacon of light when they are wrapped up in a saccharine LA bubble with millions in their bank account and have their own echo chambers going on. it's more annoying to watch her fans express the same disappointment and write the same essays whenever something like this pops up. stop idealizing celebrities and expecting perfect opinions and statements from them for serious matters that most of us don't even have a grasp on to begin.

I agree that it’s definitely not black and white, and while I think the letter is poorly worded and doesn’t address the immense suffering Israel has unleashed on Palestinians, I also think Lana added her name to this with good intentions and I’m not going to drag her for it.

Damn….some of the comments in this thread about Lana are weird. im free Palestine every day but you have to realize that Lana cannot end the Illegal occupation by Israel on her own. We cannot make assumptions about why or how she signed it. So many of us have been fans of Lana for over a decade and we know that at her core, she is kind and generous and full of love and selflessness. She really has never given us a reason or acted in a way to think otherwise. Redirect your anger to the right places and let's focus on what really matters.

First of all, it's not ISIS but Hamas. Then, the vile actions of Hamas shouldn't result in the death of thousands of innocent civilians, that have nothing to do with those (especially considering most of the population in Gaza is underage and couldn't vote for Hamas in 2006). Finally, there was another letter (Artists 4 Ceasefire) that was way more nuanced and definitely hurting for both sides. Also, I can't believe I'm writing that: encouraging Israel bombings will never be a pro-peace statement.

I'm sure that she meant well and doesn't grasp the full reality of the situation. Definitely disappointing to see and I hope she learns more, but I won't hold it against her for now. My mom and a lot of other people I love would have certainly signed the same thing thinking it was the right thing to do, but I have been doing what I can these past few weeks to learn and share that information with others.

In a nutshell, Palestinian group Hamas killed a number of innocent Israelis at a concert (about 250 Israelis). They did it because over the years, Israelis, who never had their own country before, occupied their land (Palestine) and took full control of it. Today's Israel is essentially Palestinian land taken over by Europe-fled Jews and Zionists by sheer force. All of this is available in history books, on YouTube, official UN documents, etc. To retaliate against the massacre, Israel decided to commit a genocide in the remaining Palestinian land (Gaza) and they've already bombed and slaughtered thousands, mostly women, children, sick people in hospitals, and so forth. They also cut off their electricity, water supplies, etc. leaving thousands of innocent people in the dark as they're getting bombed. Israel's aim is to expel Palestinians into the Sanai desert or into Egypt (another country that Israelis do not own but have said that Egypt has to "play ball"), so they can remove them from their own territory forever and finish their occupation, i.e. extermination. Biden and America are supporting the genocide - openly with visits to Israel, moral and financial support. They've previously funded Israel's attacks on Palestine and supported them with weapon supplies. Because it's in the interest of American Jews, of course. Now, most sane and educated celebrities like Cate Blanchett, Mark Ruffalo, Roony Mara and many others have openly come out in support of Palestine, demanding ceasefire (for the genocide to stop). Countries like Russia, Ireland, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, among others, are defending the Palestinians and some want to cut their diplomatic ties with Israel. The world of social media on a global level and protesters everywhere are asking for the same thing. Especially since there are thousands of videos and images of these mass graves in Palestine, confirming the genocide. (To spare you from seeing all this footage - think bodies of babies after explosions, mothers sreaming, doctors discovering their own family members' dead bodies at the hospital, thousands of houses turning into ash, families being wiped out, ice-cream trucks being used for body storage, reporters being killed, and so on.) On the other hand, you have Natalie Portman, Gal Gadot, Amy Schumer, Quentin Tarantino and other Jewish celebrities or Jewish aficionados, asking for the "war" to continue because the Palestinians mean nothing to them and, as the Israelis say, they're "just animals". They're advocating for the whole nation to be wiped out in plane sight. Of course, they're using the concert massacre as an excuse and spinning the story their way via the western media. But it's tough because we live in an era of social. So, it seems that Lana has - once again - shot herself in the foot, not really informing herself and educating herself enough on a topic before putting her finger in it This just proves how dizzy she is at times and that her managers and publicist let her get away with anything - as long as they get paid. I feel sorry for her, in a way, because she doesn't seem to be that smart about her career and, if she keeps this up, she will surely get cancelled one day. Lastly, before anyone who's Jewish or is misinformed comes after me, you should know that I'm a Serbian Christian Orthodox guy with no ties to Palestine, Israel or the US. Let's be real. Lana isn't going to educate herself and no one around her is. No one in her circle could explain to her why people were mad about QFTC, and no one around her will explain it to her this time. Because theyre all the same as her, exposed to the same information in their position, and just double down on it with eachother. I also don't see the point in people saying she has good intentions. OF COURSE she does, yet she can still be (and is) wrong. Everyone thinks they have good intentions. Everyone thinks they're in the right. Even people deploying the missiles think that they're right. Lana probably got a mass e-mail with the subject line #nohostageleftbehind, read a 10 line 'open letter' that ends by saying "We all want the same thing: Freedom for Israelis and Palestinians to live side by side in peace" and probably clicked a "click to add your name to support" link. She hasn't spread any misinformation or ANYTHING, and the only reason we know about this letter is because of a tweet and now a handful of news articles.

Just to explain a few things: Gaza is the world's largest open air prison, they really have no government or resources, or anything close to what Isreal has so this situation is not equal in the slightest The last election Palestinians had was in 2006, and that is how Hamas came into power but they are more like a gang than an actual military group or government 40% of Palestinians are 18 years and younger, so they had no say in this election Israel was formed on top of Palestine, which stole land from the Palestinians and forced them back and back until they have barely anything now. People are kicked out of their own homes for Israeli settlers to live in, many of them coming from the United States. In their government and law system they are not seen as equal to Israelis and Israel has been killing them and causing them to suffer for 70+ years So, Palestinians just want to live and they want their land and homes back, while Israel sees them as a threat to their "state's" existence and respond by constantly bombing and killing them. Many countries around the world recognize Israel's occupation of Palestine as illegal as well These are things I wish they would teach us in school in the US, but the US is also very involved with Israel so

While the letter supports peace between Palestinians and Israelis, it unfortunately glosses over the oppression of Palestinians by Israelis. The other letter also supports the safe release of the hostages, but is much more balanced. I wish she had signed it instead.

The problem is that people venerate celebrities and their opinions way too much. It's been fascinating to witness the shock and feelings of betrayal expressed by people when their favs came out in support of Israel. "Not Sarah Paulson!" "Not Florence Pugh!" Like, celebs live comfortably and have little to no incentive to do additional research on geopolitical conflicts. It's just easier for them to jump on bandwagons and share Instagram infographics that make news easily digestible but also far too simplistic. Having been around when Lana first made controversial statements about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in 2018, I'm not too surprised by this. She's a lib through and through. If it can enlighten people as to why this letter is so criticized: It is mostly full of shit regarding the conflict. It's not only poorly worded but plain disgusting when you read between the lines. Of course it's a good thing to ask for the release of hostages and I sure hope all of them are safe and will soon go back to their family, unharmed. But: "Thank you for your unshakable moral conviction" I wouldn't qualify funding the bombing of civilians to be an unshakable moral conviction, but ok. "and for the Palestinians who have also been terrorized, oppressed, and victimized by Hamas" Totally shifting the Apartheid politics perpetuated by Israel on the enemy's side. It's a gross manipulation I can't overlook. Anyone with two brain cells and access to Internet can learn how Israel deported, murdered, jailed Palestinians and destroyed any of their infrastructures since late 40s.
