12 likesBonjour hoes So, a while back I actually bought access to that Mix with the Masters website. Both Kieron Menzies and Jack Antonoff had videos about Lana, in Kieron's case about High By The Beach and for Jack it was about Mariners Apartment Complex and The Greatest. I decided to write down some of the more interesting stuff they said about Lana, since I haven't seen anyone else sharing this before: High By The Beach HBTB started with the chorus It was made when they were about halfway through the recording process, in the summer of 2015 Lana usually comes in with an idea, and Rick plays the piano trying to find the right chords (as seen in the Change video Lana posted back in 2017) Lana wrote the rest of the lyrics the same day they recorded the song The hip-hop vibes were Lana's idea All of Lana's vocals on the Honeymoon album were recorded with a U87 microphone. It was an extremly old mic Rick found somewhere in a closet of his and they never used it because it always sounded so bad, but they thought the trashy, lo-fi feel of it suited the Honeymoon tracks because it had the right amount of "dirt and brokenness" Lana usually does not record her vocals in the vocal booth, but in the control room with speakers on, which is the reason why there's always so much bleeding from the instrumental on her acapellas No autotune on Lana's vocals They call the outro a "poem". Lana wrote it after they had the idea for the music video and it was specifically written with the MV in mind. During the HM production process, recording, producing and mixing was all pretty much happening at the same time, rather than producing the song and mixing it at a later date. Lana was involved in every step of the album making process, from writing, producing, mixing and mastering it. Lana's mindset is "this is her vision, [...] this is what she wanted to hear". A lot of the mixing choices on Honeymoon were Lana's call Kieron says he thought the beat shouldve been brighter and hotter, but Lana said she doesn't like it, and he thinks they ended up with a more natural sound that way The Greatest Lana and Jack usually write songs by Jack playing on his guitar and Lana singing over it The Greatest started with the chorus chord progression Jack added flutes and horns because the song feels like a "death march" for the culture They were figuring the song out as they were going There's 40 vocal tracks in the final song They wanted it to feel like Lana is singing in a bar Lana's voice was supposed to feel like its the glue holding the entire album together, which is why its so "on top" of the instrumentals Mariners Apartment Complex There was no chorus at first, Lana started with the verses Jack thought it would be called "I'm Your Man" Again, Lana and Jack record in the same room, she's singing, he's playing the guitar The end of the song is a homage to Venice Bitch with the trippy guitars coming in

11 likesWTF is the point of releasing an album to apologize for the delay on the album you were supposed to release if you can’t release the apology album on time either? This year has really soured Lana for me. I’m not saying I won’t support or be excited for COTCC, but I’ve never been so annoyed with Lana as I have been this year, whether it’s her intentionally wearing an ineffective mask, driving recklessly while filming it, not being able to keep her word for anything, or just being messy. Goddamn.

9 likesExactly. She has a certain responsibility to her audience, just as all retailers, wholesalers, salesmen and businesses do. Once she finds out she's made a false statement, or her statement has been invalidated by some incident, all she has to do is drop a tweet or message on IG. Period. And should it be her record company making decisions or changing hers, then all she has to say is, "I don't know yet, but once I've heard from Interscope and I'm 100% sure, I'll make sure you all know."

9 likesNobody‘s saying she isn’t working hard. But it’s not funny nor cute, how she keeps us in the dark, when she announced a new release around this time. This wait/weird limbo is what’s so frustrating, it already has been with COTCC. Sure, it’ll come and there’s the 11th to look forward to, but this album is still in the back of the mind and it annoys me, that I can’t just forget about it and enjoy it, when it comes.

8 likesThere are many factors that play into role behind closed doors.... who knows what’s going on in Lana’s PERSONAL life or what her MANAGEMENT Is telling her... at the end of the day quality art is quality art...life isn’t easy, it’s one thing to be at work investing time and energy in various projects but it’s another thing to release them. Contracts and shit really put the release process at a halt sometimes... all because of the $$$ the only thing that matters in this hell driven industry ... at least we know whether through visuals, sound or words Lana’s heart will always be present in her work.. thus worth the wait.

7 likesI’m trying tu understand the silence about this album: Does she want to surprise drop it like she did with Summertime? Is it done but she forgot it still takes a couple of days to upload on Spotify and all? Or is she still working on it? the only excusable silence on her part is if she is dropping it somewhere before the end of 2020 (very unlikely though). The way this could be the cover and I would love it.

7 likesnobody is asking you to worship or make her a cult figure, but the fact of the matter is that she's always been like this since Paradise. Projects that either don't see the light of day, are delayed months because she gets ahead of herself, etc. This isn't some new behavior with her. It's literally been happening since the beginning. So if this lack of communication and "rudeness" is bothering you so much, you don't have to keep dealing with it. It's really that simple And this isn't meant to be an attack, either. My best suggestion is to just not get emotionally invested with the projects she announces until there's a set in stone official announcement, like the Chemtrails one.

7 likesthat’s what I think too!! she could have easily pushed out an album of covers in a month, but the more she dove into it the more potential she saw for it and the more she wants to do with it! I definitely think this is going to end up being more than just ‘a digital’ as she called it and it’s going to be a bigger release! And I’m completely okay with waiting, I laughed when she mentioned this being released on Christmas and the day coming and going with no word from her is on brand we aren’t starving! We got Violet audio book in July and the book in September, she’s still working hard

7 likesMy guess is it's not going to get the acclaim NFR did. I feel like with LFL and NFR, she clearly wanted to be validated by the critics but with COCC not that much. I don't think the record is going to sound like Ultraviolence but I'm thinking it could end up being a similar situation where it's received poorly by the critics while being acclaimed by the fans, since she doesn't seem to be making compromises this time around.

7 likesI don't like that she's putting her friends and family in every single visual thing ever now. They were on the NFR covers, in the 3-part mv, in the TG/FIILY mv (which was mostly her strutting about down at the docks, but still), in the LMLYLAW and Summertime mvs, and they're all going to be in the COCC mv. Of course it's fine to do that occasionally, but does it have to be everything? It reminds me of how you let your 5-year-old cousin help you with something - you know it's not gonna be perfect because they're 5 but you love them so you let them "help" anyway. I can only hope that COCC, the song, isn't too infused with them. I suppose it bothers me because visual imagery and escape used to be one of the strengths of her art, and it's disappointing that that's gone. You could argue that it's much more personal and therefore better now, but SoC was her best mv ever and used professional actors. It's unlikely that you can get that same standard with Chunk and the Cha Cha Matchas. Furthermore, it's not as if she's using them to portray personal storylines (which would be more acceptable); she's just using them in place of professional actors. It's similar to how she uses Chunk to take all her photos, although at least Chunk is a photographer. Val and Alex, for example, are not actresses.

7 likeslmao She should've announced cocc's music video + preorder today with a caption like "couldnt finished the standards album on time but here's a little something for you guys, merry Christmas" but of course that is too much to ask Honestly though I don't care, we know how she is, I mean.... We should just accept it and move on.

7 likesI think this might end up getting the Violet treatment. I feel like it’s going to come a few months after COTCC with a proper vinyl/cassette/CD/digital release (that is, if it still doesn’t come before COTCC). I don’t think anyone was expecting Violet to be pushed as a major release until she launched the pre-order in July, so I expect the delay of this record to result in something similar!

5 likesactually ultraviolence was meant to come out in may, lana's own words. she also started talking about honeymoon like a year before anything came out. anyways some of yall need to calm down about this album, yes it sucks it didn't come when she said it was supposed to but it was only meant to make up for the lack of COCC and now COCC is coming so obviously she's gonna wait a bit to put this out cause releasing 2 albums would be overwhelming and a mess. it'll probably come a few months after COCC is released it's not that big of a deal.

5 likesThat's not true, that "she's always been like this," "that this has been happening from the beginning." UV and HM were released exactly when it was announced they would be, and we've been led to believe that LFL was delayed 3 months or due to the 'Love' leak, which is probably true. So for all intents, three albums were released when they were supposed to have been. As I wrote above, the whole NFR fiasco taught me a lesson about believing in 99% of what she says, but, as another member posted, you wouldn't think she could possibly delay an album that was intended to fill the gap due to another earlier project being delayed, and then delay the second project without notice, and on Christmas. EVEN THAT is something I would think she wouldn't have the gall or rudeness to do. And since she seems to believe in 'mystical' ideas like karma, she should consider what sort of bad karma she's creating for herself, which to me is simply the bad faith she's creating in her own fanbase.

the song was titled claws originally when it belonged to dylan brady. when charli was given the song and used it for hifn she kept the name -
5 likesI think it could really go either way. I’m hoping for Chemtrails to be warmly received. She’s been on a steady incline in the critics eyes, and then shot through the roof with NFR. It would have to be really bad for them to rip it to shreds at this point, considering everybody praised the last record so much and it would call to question their own opinions I think.

4 likesThis isn't an issue of Stanning or of 'tweeting all day.' It's a matter of being honest, reliable and communicating what is important to the right audience. Being dishonest, entitled, rude and unreliable doesn't represent mystery to me. A lot of 'Stans' are masochistic, but I'm not one of them. I don't belong to any sort of 'Lane Del Rey Cult,' and never will, nor do I make cult figures of anyone, in any capacity.

4 likesBecause of her recent controversies she’s already at a disadvantage in regard to its critical reception (there are always going to be a few biased reviewers). But honestly, LMLYLAW is an objectively good song and judging from the title track it seems like she’ll (hopefully) touch on some interesting themes. I also think it has the potential to pull good first week sales considering her resurgence in popularity.

3 likesExactly, your first paragraph. Acts like this make her seem like an indifferent, arrogant madwoman. Luckily, the NFR year long + run up largely broke the LDR spell for me, but, as you say, her make-up album for COCC’s long delay ALSO gets delayed, with no comment, no notice, no apology. I do not forgive her her lack of professionalism and simple good manners.
