i have to say i love how much of the later posts in the thread are positive re-evaluations of this album. i'm def a COCC fangirl, and while i love BB, COCC has had a much bigger emotional, thoughtful impact on me (at least as of now). i agree with many others who've noted that COCC will, like HM, prob gain appreciation over time and so many of these updates prove it's so. NFR was an impossible album to follow up and she really went her own way and made the record she wanted/needed to make instead of treading water.

it’s finally here in all its glory😭

Carmen is such a well-written song. There’s the obvious storytelling about its namesake, but there are also two extended metaphors related to addiction and actual substances that make it such a genius, layered piece of poetry. The interplay between — 1. The verses + bridge (that detail Carmen’s experiences, perhaps as a user) 2. The chorus (which analogizes Carmen — the user — into the actual substance, with lines about potential effects [“cartoon eyes”, “butterflies”, a “mind like a diamond”] and “white lightning” being a likely street name for a substance that Carmen gets compared to) — is so enriching to listen to. It’s a tragically beautiful song and is just so eerily glamorous. It’s one of my favourites off of Born to Die and it’s so, so underrated. I think there is so much more to this song than people give it credit for, and what I’ve just written here barely scratches the surface. I could write a whole dissertation on this! The live version she did for NPR in 2012 is probably my favourite version. The acoustic arrangement makes it more haunting and lonesome, and her vocals shine beautifully here. The “weaknesses” are the strengths. They convey the true depression and pain of this track that I find to be absolutely beautiful, real, and raw. This fan-edited music video is perfect for this version too, and conveys its bone-chilling beauty. I recommend that everyone who comes across this post gives it a watch — I’ve seen this for years but it’s so worth revisiting.

This Monday I went drinking with 2 of my friends and in a students' bar they deadass played Blue Banisters and I started singing drunkenly in front of them and like 8 strangers. I sang it all until Dealer cuz they turned it off halfway through. It was the best night of my life

It's all fun and games until she doesn't actually announce a new album after releasing the newest one. We were so spoiled

So i'm doing kind off a lyric book similar to the lana ones, but im having trouble with the imaginary of the songs, I can't achieve to find images that fit with the songs, i don't know how to say it, and I would like your help!! I'll show you and example, salvatore it's like this image to me It doesn't have to be lana related, just what you feel! I've been saying that Chemtrails is the next Honeymoon in terms of fan reception (hated by most at first, but eventually becomes a fan favorite)

eventually chemtrails will be recognized as the marvelous album it really is

honestly i'm hoping for something different as well, i was never somebody who automatically disliked a lana song if it was a "piano ballad" but after blue banisters i'm totally here for something different, i expect that the album will feature some varied instrumentals, hopefully drums, synths, & electric guitar, a return to form, in a way, but honestly, if ldr9 was solely acoustic guitar, i wouldn't be mad about that at all, i do love the acoustic guitar!

Returning to Chemtrails after hammering BB for weeks, and it sounds AMAZING. Warm and gentle and beautiful. One thing I wasn't prepared for was how much Chem now feels like a Covid-era album. The pre-release was a huge emotional crutch throughout 2020, and now I specifically associate the music with that segment of time from October 2020 when LMLYLAW released until the tringle in May. We were still basically locked down, and it was endless hours in my apartment listening to COCC over and over. COCC songs will always remind me of those long days and all the emotions they contained.

Never been a fan of pre-1989 Taylor, but Red is the only of her pre-1989 albums I actually enjoy. This new version is good, but it's way too long. Def I'll be ditching some songs out, but I'll surely keep most of the album. And I don't feel Max Martin's absence is a mistake... as I've read somewhere else Those From the Vault songs are really good, I'd swap a few of the standard for a few of the new ones.

I appreciate this album so much more now than I did 6 months ago. It's aging very well.

There's a David Kahne produced studio version that we have confirmation of for Axl Rose Husband. There's also a confirmation for White Pontiac Heaven, but that's a lyric that's been reused by Lana before so I think there's a chance it could be a different song (although it very well could be the song this thread is for)
