NFR was way more accessible compared to OB, let's be honest. And the MVs, the interviews, the radio shows. Ofc it was going to get more streams. OB is getting more than 1st day BB streams on its 6th day.

Fingertips is the all time anti-tiktok song - you can try to take parts of it out of context, but you just end up looking like an idiot. It's also the worst album to expect people to understand on first listen, which is why I hope the genius behind the reviewer's 'listening party' in the UK gets sent back to business school by the label. Just thinking about how this record would easily be an 85 on metacritic if the label had sent out copies instead, makes me mad.

I see NeedleFlop still trash talks her early career even in a positive review. He really can’t help himself. A 9/10 though, we won He even didn’t hate Peppers, which i was convinced he would despise. I’ll forgive the slander this time.

That's his loss. Fishtail is in my Top 5. But a 9/10 is a win for the culture. I just know the incel neckbeards and Sputnik dorks are SPIRALING right now.

It would be so perfect if SWEET gets a homemade MV similar to NFR title track. With the disney animations running around. It's such a cool concept having 2D animations blend with live videos.

Girl you came in here telling a bunch of Lana fans you sold something you bought for ~$60 for $600. What exactly did you expect? Applause?

The way I decided just not to get anything as I said too expensive and who knows when it will arrive. Also I feel there is a difference between paying money like for her lighter, racer jacket, necklaces etc. those are cool & interesting, collectible items I know I won’t regret. But sweatshirts and tshirts for that price not even including shipping it’s just…I can’t justify it. I’m sad tho.

Y’all need to listen to the album in nature or on a drive around backroads, somewhere scenic. It’s completely life changing and I get chills with every song. Hearing Kintsugi with birds chirping in the background is SURREAL

Wow. I can't believe Fantano gave her a - She really fucking deserves it. I don't agree with Fantano on a lot (the Ultraviolence review baffles me to this day), but to see that after 9 albums into her career she's just getting better and better according to critics?? That's incredibly rare. I hope people know that she has cemented herself into the American singer-songwriters forever. Born To Die was lightning in a bottle, but to continue to make record after great record, when many other artists peak... she's rare. So proud of her

Fashionably late in answering this but this is an interesting comment. I do wonder if Lana’s refusal to play the promotional game has led us to believe she’s overall lazy as an artist and incapable to conjure concept albums regardless of whether she promotes them as such or not. In my opinion, Lana as of right now wouldn’t make sure to go out of her way to say this is a concept album the same way most musicians do when they have a concept project in their hands. This album is clearly narrative-driven and its structure does obey to a certain narrative of getting in and out of a tunnel: The Grants anticipate this moment (“I’m doing the hard stuff, I’m doing my time”) before the title track and Sweet display her own anxieties as she goes further into her memories and past (fear of being forgotten, the anxiety of being in a relationship and wanting to know about its longevity, as she affirms to being someone deserving of that). From A&W forward she gets into the tunnel, to harrowing (A&W), eerie (the interludes), dark (Candy Necklace) and devastating (Kintsugi + Fingertips) effects as she gets more and more lost in the misty forests of her own traumas. From Paris, Texas forward it feels like she’s coming out of the tunnel (“I just needed two seconds to be me”) which culminates in Margaret, a very bittersweet moment where, as some review points, she’s a spectator of joy rather than a receptor. And then the Fishtail/Peppers/Taco Truck coda where she’s finally embracing the recklessness and devil-may-care side of her that so many people (her mother and some past relationships) made her feel bad and inferior about. Ending the album with “signing off bang bang kiss kiss” feels like a major “fuck off, peace out” ride into the sunset. Who knows where she goes from here - at the end of the day, it’s her path to forge and her trauma seems to be left behind. This tracklist feels so meticulous and incredibly deliberate in narrative and musicianship that it kind of feels unfair to discredit it as “non-conceptual” because Lana is too “lazy” to do something like that. Just because she’s not being overly promotional about it, doesn’t mean she’s a lazy artist. The fact that she poured so much of herself in this record and formatted it in such an intriguing and confounding fashion, makes me believe she’s anything but lazy.

Caring about and judging what other people find interesting is also boring! No one is letting reviews dictate their opinions on the music, it’s just interesting to see what others, especially influential critics, have to say about an album we like? Why is that bad

i love how lyrically she is begging for everyone’s attention with this album it’s like testing the viewer/listener to actually pay attention to what she’s saying. and if you don’t, you completely miss it. it’s quite brilliant and risky in the time of tiktok where everyone wants info lightening fast.

"In the process, Del Rey’s ninth studio album became the fastest-selling of 2023 so far. It sold 9,717 CDs, 20,809 vinyl albums, 2,582 cassettes and 998 digital downloads, as well as 7,819 units from sales-equivalent streams. The album is also No.1 on the vinyl chart."

Ocean Blvd isn’t meant to be or feel immediate: it’s meant for one to sit with it for a long, long time. It keeps growing and growing. The people who keep reducing it to a piano album are just stuck in BTD/UV nostalgia and can’t consume music that isn’t short or beat driven - or both.

Pls I'm not a scalper I bought it when it was being sold when I was a teenager and had to sell it when I needed money. I didn't originally buy it just to sell. As if it didn't deeply pain me to have to sell it. Wtf are you people on...

Listening again but this time on my Amazon pink vinyl and I really do love the two interludes. They really set a mood. I love how experimental she was with this record.
