18 likesInspired by @Veinsineon Courtney used to be cool. I like Hole. I think Celebrity Skin is a brilliant album. But not anymore. Not after TODAY. https://consequence.net/2024/04/courtney-love-taylor-swift-not-important/ I mean imagine saying that ^ about your friend. That is just plain mean. Lana once lent Courtney her entire house so she could recover from whatever the fuck addiction she had at that particular time. Fuck HER ETA: also she's just really, really wrong. Even if the Country Roads cover was the worst cover that ever covered, it doesn't negate the artist's entire body of work. She of all people should realise this. ETA2: also saying Taylor "isn't important" is actual brain rot. Even if you despise her and her music, she absolutely IS important, she literally contributes to a country's actual economy when she tours. Important =/= having to like her music or like her.

17 likesYou have to remember a live show isn't put together for the people who watch every single performance through cell phone footage at home. Most people only see the one show that they attend in person so it's overall not really an issue that the setlist doesn't change for most people. Also the show was a lot better than you're giving it credit for from just watching a few clips. There were mic issues throughout that you could tell were rightfully bugging her, but she sounded gorgeous and there were a lot of great moments throughout the whole show. She didn't come off as lazy. A little defeated yes, but graceful and ethereal.

14 likesIt’s funny that people think the woman who has been complaining about fame since Honeymoon is really trying to bring in new fans she said she didn’t care about losing fans, period, way back in 2017 and her actions since then prove her stance. Either you like her for who she is, or you don’t. do I wish the setlist was a bit different? Yeah. But like I said while the show was happening, book Lana get Lana. It was authentically her, and what she wanted to do, even if I cringed the second Bartender/Arcadia/Grants started playing, gotta respect her vision.

13 likesI think Billboard were spot on calling her show "perplexing and profound." It was filled with symbolism and details; some were instant and shocking like the epic entrance, others were more obscure or thoughtful like a hologram. I see this show as a happy ending to the Ocean Blvd era and everything that came with it, especially its message -- mortality, fame and loneliness. Lana entered the Coachella field with a caravan of motorcycles, bikers and dolled-up dancers while unreleased "Jealous Girl" played as a trap remix. She graced the audience with her freshly auburn hair, sparkly baby blue dress and an overall elegance and glamour that only she can pull off these days. The stage design, a tall and detailed old mansion with staircases, balconies, plants and everything, was very reminiscent of the Gatsby mansion, as others have pointed out. Her ballerinas and choir singers looked straight out of a 1930s movie or spectacle, while her band members were rocking ties and smoking jackets. Coincidentially, what's also from the 1930s is a tunnel under Ocean Boulevard in California. The "subway" as it was called, went all the way under Ocean Boulevard and conducted straight to the beach. It was connected to the Jergins Trust Building, a commercial building with over 60 shops, fancy restaurants, casino and theaters where music and dance events were held all the time; all of this during the Golden Age of Hollywood. It was a privileged moment and location that only lasted a few decades as the building was demolished and the tunnel sealed. As we know, on Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd, Lana uses this as a metaphor for her fame, beauty, fertility and even her life -- Nothing lasts forever, as she admits in many songs through her discography, but at least she tries to leave a legacy and a purpose behind. She held this big Jazz Age party on the Coachella Stage, where we were all invited to have a great time and appreciate an old-fashioned show; as @yourolllikethunderperfectly stated, "Lana is a star akin to older generations—when musicians didn’t spend months training, both physically and vocally, for a show or tour, but showed up as they were, just to sing, without all of the fanfare." It's all about the beauty and vulnerability of the moment. "Without You", which Lana hasn't sung in 11 years, was chosen as an unexpected yet gorgeous opener. Describing a life of opulence yet feeling unfulfilled, Lana begins narrating the story of the show. It's followed by "West Coast", a song about having to choose between love and a normal life or pursuing a music career. She chooses the latter, proudly singing California anthem "Doin' Time" and later explores nostalgia and goodbye with "Summertime Sadness". Having to run away and following your intuition is a common theme in Lana's recent music, most particularly "Paris, Texas" from Ocean Blvd or "Bare Feet on Linoleum" from Violet Bent Backwards over the Grass. By the time we finish the first half of the show, we've gotten a great glimpse of Lana's early career, with hits and favorites from Born to Die, Ultraviolence and Lust for Life. The second half of the show explored her newer LPs, Norman Fucking Rockwell!, Chemtrails Over the Country Club, Blue Banisters and Ocean Blvd. These albums describe a decaying, modern America; the music turns more stripped-back, sometimes only piano and voice, an uncommon decision for bombastic Coachella. She sings "Arcadia" with passion, a song about how fickle an artist's reputation can be and how critics and journalists can shift the public's perception on them. Special guests are always part of a big party, and Jon Batiste, Billie Eilish and Jack Antonoff joined to play and sing. One of the most out-there things Lana has ever done live, she was absent from the stage during "Hope is a dangerous thing..."; instead, a holographic version of herself was shown singing and spinning, reminiscent of her infamous SNL gig back in 2012. A promotional billboard appeared outside the festival, which read the date of that TV performance as the death of Lana Del Rey. She comes back triumphant with "A&W" and closed with "Young and Beautiful", a very fitting ending to this story. ""Will you still love me when I'm no longer young and beautiful?", an iconic line that still stands to this day. "I know you will/I'm sure that you will." Gatsby was murdered in the swimming pool of his opulent mansion; you could also say he died for love. Marilyn Monroe, Veronica Lake and Elizabeth Short, whose stories are paid homage to in the "Candy Necklace" music video, all faced the darkness of Hollywood and suffered tragic endings. Lana Del Rey pays homage to them and decides to escape, this time in a caravan of motorcycles, bikers and dolled-up dancers. "Burned into my brain are these stolen images," she sang 100 minutes ago during "Without You". "Nobody warns you before the fall [...] If this is it/I'm signing off," she declared in 2019's "The greatest"; she prefers to keep her memories intact and beautiful, avoiding the decay, the demolishment, the sealing. A jazz rendition of "Young and Beautiful" marks the end of the show and Lana waves the audience while brass players in tuxedos and girls with champagne bottles play and dance over a giant cake. The cherry on top was The Caretaker's "It's just a burning memory" playing the background, making the scene feel somber and thought-provoking, but also dramatic and grand like the end of a movie. The instrumental piece is part of Everywhere at the End of Time, an album about deteriorating mental health and Alzheimer; the fear of being forgotten seems to be a major cause of anxiety for Lana, and I hope she knows she's cementing herself as a legend with each move.

13 likesThat's so true!!! PWYC has been done a thousand times, but when I saw her live last year with my husband (who has never seen even a snippet of a show) that was his favorite part and he talked about it for days afterwards. I do think the show wasn't as bad as the initial reaction seemed. A lot of people stayed up super late to watch it, and we were all high on Lasso delusion (and crashed immediately). Watching it and knowing what's in store makes it a LOT more enjoyable.

12 likesThe only place I’ve seen online with any negativity about the performance is Lana boards I think it’s because we fixate and get so delulu we’ll never be happy. but GOD DAMN I can’t get over her show from coachella it was absolutely incredible. Her entrance and exit alone was enough for me and I don’t mind the very little set list changes. And again, as someone else mentioned, I’m pretty sure we are the only ones that fixate on her set list and watch every single concert She’s ever done. A lot of others Are unaware of this set list being used a lot. also she’s a true artist and can do whatever she wants it’s her vision. ALSO she’s not a pop star? She has many ballads. Her voice and her aura suits these ballads well. It is her vibe.

10 likesCourtney once replied to me on IG and said that she would never collab with Lana because they were friends and it'd be weird So can we have that collab now ladies
-
10 likesoh no i absolutely agree. Everyone was so mad that the crowd wasn't very energetic, but what are they supposed to do while Lana sits in a chair mumbling Bartender I do think both albums had better songs that she could have performed, and I agree she should have shortened them like she did some earlier songs

10 likeslol i didn't even see it lmao.... Back on topic I think Lasso will be a very 1970's album in both aesthetic and sonically. So look at both the popular country music of that era but also the regular pop culture for insight to what Lana's going for. I've been feeling 70's revival in the zeitgeist since 2022 and I feel it very strongly in this album. I feel folk western blues and jazz more in this album than country.....but country doesn't feel wrong per say. It IS country it's just a throwback. Lana said Make Country Music Great Again. It is what country music used to be. So who knows if the country music GP will like it or not. It could really swing massively in either direction. This could be her biggest album since BTD or an absolute train wreck. I'm so excited.

9 likesI really appreciate how even though people are hating on Courtney in this thread they’re still acknowledging her talent. She’s a terrible person but it’s so aggravating to see people say she killed Kurt or Kurt wrote live through this etc. We can criticize her without diminishing her achievements. I do think it’s funny she would end a 10+ year friendship over one cover though.

9 likesCourtney is definitely one of those people that it feels like walking on eggshells to talk to

9 likesOn a more technical take, the band sounded extremely well. We all know Lana has sound issues with her mic, which interrupted her singing and focus. However, I don’t think it’s wrong to point out that she indeed lacked energy and wasn’t as confident as seen in shows from last year. This is probably because this was her first show in half a year I think, so it’s understandable. I hope everything gets fixed by next week and they deliver a 10/10 performance. And the setlist; Bartender needs to go, and she should add more midtempo songs, instead of 5 or so piano ballads back to back.

9 likesi do agree with this, especially for songs like btd, blue jeans, summertime sadness, and ride. those are classics that make sense to always be played. i personally only have an issue with the songs like bartender and arcadia. those songs were an issue the first time she played them tbh they aren't fan faves, she doesn't do anything interesting during them and plays the entire thing while shortening songs like nfr and ride which are songs most fans LOVE. i get that she most likely really likes these songs, but they are the perfect songs to swap out at least every once in a while, lol.

9 likessame I’m gonna cling onto the delusion that it’s coming out on September 20 until the last possible moment… this is my one chance to get a Lana album release on my birthday no one is taking that away from me
-
9 likesYeah as much as I wanted a song debuted at Coachella, now still isn’t the time. It’s not unusual to get a first single 5 months before the album (LMLYLAW, BB/TB/WFWF) but I prefer shorter pre release. Getting tunnel in December and then the album in March was almost a bit too long of a wait, but is the more typical length. Personally I hope she goes the Billie route, where she announces the album and there’s barely a month wait. also, the album isn’t even announced yet. She’s only talked about it at an event. Once she posts about it, then I consider it announced

9 likesI think you’re onto something, but just a few days before then! I conducted a little Lanailysis and here’s what I found… In the BTD album shoot taken on July 22nd her nails were pink, but two days earlier on the 20th during her photoshoot with NME her nails were the same blue with white flower designs as seen in this performance video. Before that, she last did a photoshoot on June 11th where her nails were a different shade of blue and without the white flowers (which were drawn on her ring finger on both hands), which narrows this performance closer to July. Also, on October 10th which is the day this performance was originally said to be from, she also had a photoshoot where her nails had black tips. The next day, she had a performance where her nails still had black tips, so she didn’t get them redone between those days. Before these October dates, the last time we saw her was at Glasslands where her nails were also blue, but with a different design than in the video. So, I conclude that this performance took place sometime in July up until the 21st or 22nd when her nails were redone for the BTD cover shoot. It is also possible that she did this performance, got her nails redone, and then did the BTD shoot all in one day, but it doesn’t seem likely for all of that to get done in just one day. I think it’s more likely she did this a couple days prior. I’ll update the title to reflect this! Xx

9 likesI just watched for a second time and it honestly is a gorgeous performance. The sound issues were unacceptable and you could tell that it got to her throughout the show, but despite that she really did a beautiful job. Can't believe some of you think Candy Necklace should be cut, it was the clear highlight for me. Stunning performance from both Lana and Jon and they way they riffed with one another was incredible, not to mention the pole dancing moment. Also obsessed with the spooky jazz exit. The whole show had this slightly ghostly vibe, like Lana's this old starlet reflecting on her life from her dilapidated mansion beyond the grave. Really hoping the sound is perfect next week and she's feeling more comfortable now that she's done it once. Would love a surprise Lasso debut obviously as the cherry on top, but overall I think the show is really well conceived.
