mystique. drama. romance. cunt. undeniably indelible lyricism. 100% ass-shaking bangers. a music video where she's reining a comet w her backup dancers. lip gloss merch. like lavish. she'll announce the next album title in september before the holidays only to release the actual lead single in may. this forum'll go mad. you'll all be arguing and shit-talking about x and y. i'll stream fishtails and soak up the chaos while chuckling while waiting. probably donning a face mask and sipping fruit infused water.

feel like people don’t pay enough respect to 20 steps & dreams from the 24hr album… like those r excellent songs she should’ve finished

Fingertips is definitely a top 4 track from the album and one of the greatest things she’s ever done lyrically. None of her contemporaries is doing that. I know that it’s a ballad but the absence of a defined structure, the orchestral work with intention behind every swing, the overall unbearable and uncomfortable intimacy of it all… it’s definitely challenging and profound work that must not be mistaken as a simple ballad I generally admire Jack as a producer but some of his techniques are getting kind of stale at this point. He muffles everything and uses the same drum machine patterns - I wish he could switch it up but our mother loves it so there’s that.

I think that depends on what boundaries you are considering. Sonically it may not have broken fully new ground (though I don't see that as a criticism at all, the whole thing sounds stunning) but from a storytelling perspective I would say it was very much boundary pushing and showcased her creativity in amazing ways. She centered the album around a comparison to herself to an abandoned tunnel, and then structured the album in a way that took us on a ride through said tunnel, reaching the darkest emotional peaks of her whole career with the gut punch of Kintsugi/Fingertips before bringing us to an unexpectedly strange ending on the other side. She took so many different sounds and blended them all into a very cohesive and impactful journey. No one else could have pulled off what she did on this album and it's a testament to the different ways in which an artist can be unpredictable.

ok good for y’all…i’m happy with most of her music too but that doesn’t mean we can’t have standards. if she released an album full of hollywood bowls and beautifuls and let me love you like a womans and margaret/life lesson type songwriting i would be bored, and there’s nothing wrong with saying that. i really don’t see why we have to be at two extremes here – it shouldn’t be either criticizing everything or eating everything up. it’s normal to be in the middle and i think most of us are in that space, and we shouldn’t be shamed and constantly told “omg y’all complain about everything”, “i like everything she puts out”, “you’re being too hard on this track”, etc. you’re basically saying lana could sing “today i went to the store and bought oranges…” over 2 piano chords and you’d be happy. again good for you but most fans aren’t like this, and it’s not just lana fans it’s any fan in general. i’ve been a fan for 8 years and have her entire discography + unreleased music memorized by muscle memory. i’m not a hater or a casual fan, nor do i critique every single thing she puts out. but that doesn’t mean i don’t want music that’s above the bare minimum.

i agree, i don't really care about the genre i just want it to shock me a little bit, like when i first heard a&w

i don't think thw people saying they like everything lana puts out are implying that you have to like wverything she releases or that its bad to have any criticisms of her work. some of us just genuinely are happy with whatever she releases bc we're so emotionally invested in her work and we like a large variety of musical styles so we're not easily disappointed in her output. we all still have preferences and sometimes songs need time to grow on us. we don't think we're better fans for being happy with whatever she releases. we're just sharing that we're always happy to get new music from her. like its not that serious.

I personally don't want Lana to just deliver the bare minimum, but she's also never going to do that so it's not a concern of mine

Lana is very sensitive and cares a lot about what critics think about her music, so I think when reviewers stop eating up the music she makes with Jack, that's when she'll move on to new producers. She hit a gold mine with him and will be excavating it until it runs out

Guys remember she “recently” recorded Zodiac and that song sounds like an Ultraviolence and Blue Banisters sinister baby… she still has that aggression in her.

Ok anyway now I’m over this whole Jack x Lana discussion let’s talk about something fun and funky.. like a psychedelic slutty surf rock trip hop album for LDR10!!!

I wonder if trips or her tour influenced the sound of this new album… It seems to be the case very often with her LPs since Norman (LA to the Moon tour: there was that post about entering her blue era… which led to Norman / with the NFR tour, she has been very much inspired by the Midwest leg of the tour, tainting Chemtrails / the absence of tour or trip lead to the « quiet » BB / the emotional « trip » of losing family members inspired OB - ok, that one is a reach, I admit )

i actually wouldn't be that surprised if lana and rick worked together again considering they worked together for say yes to heaven right? from what we heard from insiders it seemed like they went to the studio again to create a new mix, am i wrong about that?

i like the drum machine... someone needs to hand him those electric guitars back though...

she worked with rick nowels for 4 albums in a row, it's clear she doesn't like to switch up that much in terms of the people she works with. i just hope the music she will eventually put out with jack comes from that new and exciting place that he mentioned, which i'm pretty sure it is. him fucking around on the piano doesn't mean we're getting another ballads album 😭

Whatever my sins may be, at least I don't beg Lana to dumb herself down and make mid pop music.

You’re quoting known shitty users/trolls (which you used to be known as one until you decided you like Ocean Blvd and now you’re annoying but in a different way) All the person being quoted before (who I was defending, I’m not defending stupid users like @barttttender @Xenoblade 3) did was say they thought it would be interesting if Lana explored a sound like Midnights and that they wished she would do a different type of piano ballad. Don’t passively aggressively comment on an argument from an hour ago if you’re just going to use examples that have nothing to do with what I said thanks! Also I find it so weird you’re even commenting on this considering all you used to do is shit on Lana and praise Jack as god, and were routinely shit on by other users.

Wait, I love this. I’ve always looked at Chemtrails - Blue Banisters - Ocean Boulevard as the trio of albums that are a slow progression from outwards (NFR) to more and more inwards with each album, with OB being her first album post the claustrophobic feeling of the pandemic (hence why it probably opens and widens open from Paris Texas forward). Now with new landscapes, new experiences, close personal encounters with fans, etc will probably inspire her in different ways. And you’re totally right, last time she toured we went from LFL to NFR. She could go to different directions.

That's been my point since the getgo though. I have literally never once brought up her lyricism or storytelling, or abilities as a storyteller. The only thing I have ever criticized from her artistic relationship with Jack is that her sound has hardly evolved since NFR. Almost all his tracks will feature a tinny piano melody, or tinny electronic beats, and/or muffled guitar, bass, percussions and vocals. People like what they like, I prefer a big, more detailed, production or a properly mixed/less muddy sound to these muffled tunes. I recognized several times that Jack has made career highlight songs with her, but I'm personally not impressed by most of his input, sorry not sorry. And newsflash, I love Ocean Blvd, but you can love an artist and not think everything they do is godsent. People are allowed to feel like, at least sonically, she's been serving réchauffé. This is not an echo chamber. Salut!
