it's almost been a year since hey boy, hey girl leaked! i truely never thought we would get it and it's crazy how long it took to leak. i'll never forget the state this forum was in during the infamous January 2021 leaks. probably more iconic than August 2017.

I'll never get why she never put em "Era 1" tracks together & made it an album. Literal pop perfection, it would've been Teenage Dream's little sister

Here is a double album concept — the elusive “Pacific Blue” project with covers of classics by icons such as Elvis Presley, the Beach Boys, and Chris Isaak AND the newly-teased “Country & Western” project featuring American standards/classics and country originals.

It’s so beautiful but it’s kind of annoying how it’s the same gatefold and back cover as the standard vinyl

I think for me, and it always happens with every era, each album always clicks when the "hype" dies. That's why I'm mostly always late on trends, or checking new music. I find it hard to form a genuine opinion on a song, when everyone around seems to be like "This one is the best song!" Because as much as I love hearing different opinions, I don't want to be biased. I think the album is really nice. Is it her best? In my opinion, it isn't. But it holds a very special place in my heart, and unlike Chemtrails or Paradise, I can actually listen to most of the songs without actually having to be on a particular mood. I think this album is relatable and unique. It's different, yet arguably "more of the same" as some would say. I like that it's raw, even if it's not the direction I would have gone for. I love the lyrics, and the vocals are very interesting. The production while simple, is lovely. It's like Lana finally reached the middle-point she failed to reach with Chemtrails. It's not a perfect balance (Norman is) but she's getting there. Some of the songs I particularly dislike, aren't necessarily bad. It's not the fact they aren't relatable, or have a simple production, but rather, they just don't click. Text Book, Violets for Roses (even though I love that one!) Nectar of the Gods and Sweet Carolina. They're really lovely, but I'm not crazy about them. The rest, on their own way are incredible Anyways, I can't wait to see what she does next. While I think she should try to shake up things a little more and go on a different route, I won't be mad if she doesn't. As long as the quality remains the same!

You must admit that it's pretty revolutionary having a trans woman singing about having her genitals licked at the EMA tho

i don't......... want to say this. because i really like her music a lot. she is the 4th most played artist in my library. and also because i make music myself and would hate if someone questioned the quality of my music declining when it should do the opposite. but coconuts is a really really bad song lmao., lyrically. sounds fine and whatever sonically. but those lyrics are....... not fun or clever or cute. very cringe inducing. and it could have been fun and great and unique. it just sounds half-baked. much like FSN and the KimKimKim leak. i don't get the equation of new label + longest recording process she's undergone yet = this 5th debut album era. i love her to death, her talent is unquestionable, and even a great songwriter and live performer. but if this is trying to be a teenage dream, it's a grown man's (mine) nightmare

I'd love the new album to sound like the love child between Valley of the Dolls and Flipside tbh

Her music used to be excellent with the Era 1 singles and Turn Off the Light stuff TBH... this really explains the quality decline

I’m all here for expanding the atmospheric sound of the BB title track into dream pop territory—a Yes to Heaven vibe (like quieter Fleetwood Mac Tango in the Night dreamy instrumentals; reverbed guitars and airy synths) with spicy sprinkles of trip-hop a lá Dark But Just a Game. (otherwise just more rock/screaming Lana, my standing request)

i woke up and it hit me that the motive or at least a huge motive in this is that she's tired of being told who she was.

Remember when on her live Lana said the fact that she likes Harry Nilsson a lot would be important later this year
DO WE THINK SOMETHING ELSE IS ACTUALLY COMING? aka the Xmas covers album lol or some other project, sounds like a covers hint to me tho

i guess cause most of my best memories of my life basically revolves around the Lust for Life era. I had the best time with this album & this period speciafically. I know most stans hate it but for me, this era was a celebration of life literally: A 16-track album, beautiful out-of-this world visual, futuristic vintage (the O.G future nostalgia) concept - We were super spoiled.

Her cover of « The Other Woman » is one of the best songs ever made
a full album with such a beautiful atmosphere would be ART.

To echo the talk about K, I’ve actually always thought he was a real, living person! There is the obvious reference to him in the two “For K” tracks, but I believe the story about his death. For one, the entire record being called Born to Die is even more chilling when you add that piece to the whole pie. Lana has said before that it’s in reference to how her existence was overshadowed by awareness of her own mortality as a child — which was fleetingly eased upon experiencing true love — but given the subject matter of songs like the title track, Blue Jeans, Video Games, Dark Paradise, and Summertime Sadness, it really seems like there was a literal loss and Lana is reconciling these worlds of love and death. I think the “K” trilogy of BTD, BJ, and VG is interesting, though, because we know VG’s verses are about Josh, but the choruses are about how she wished things went with someone else (and perhaps she can only wish, because he’s no longer here). BJ suggests a tumultuous road, the result of which sees Lana vow to love him till the end of time (perhaps in a way that honours someone whose spirit lives on in your memories, in your heart, etc.). And BTD is the thesis statement that precedes these two tracks — the first verse sees Lana touch upon the afterlife, where she hopes she’ll be reunited with him. I also found it telling that in a 2012 interview, Lana was asked if the boy in question knew about these songs, to which she replied “he doesn’t know — his mother knows.” I’ll put it in the spoiler below. Now, Josh has never really fallen out of contact with Lana (as we have seen photos of them together around the early 2000s, in 2009, in 2011, in 2012, Lana posted about his engagement in 2018, and Josh has posted several times about how he inspired Video Games) — so I really do think that this person’s fate as described in Lana’s songs is legitimate and true. But alas, I think this will remain one of the most elusive Lana mysteries unless she herself opens up about it. It’s her story to tell, and if she does choose to tell it, I know it’ll be insightful and moving.

I still love Thunder, but not as passionate as its demo version. It's nicer to listen to, now that everything is all autumn-y, but I still miss it's former punch Nectar Of The God really established it's spot on my"favourite Lana songs" list Can't really decide on a third spot though. Text Book and Living Legend still rank really high and both Arcadia and Cherry Blossom grew on me a lot. Meanhwile, I still enjoy Wildflower Wildfire but it almost sounds out of place with all it's theatrical sitting between the laid-back Thunder and the ballad-lullaby portion of the record. And while I don't consider Beautiful a very exciting track (it's solid but she's done songs like that a hundred times before), it's the one that gets stuck in my mind the most for some reason.

Ok so New Shapes is incredibly well written and produced. Like this song is perfectly crafted. I truly don’t understand the people that are saying it’s basic or disjointed? My best guess is that some of y’all aren’t versed enough in the inspo(or 80s rhythmic/dance-pop in general)? Also Christine and Caroline really elevate the song, allowing New Shapes to outclass Good Ones IMO (& I mean no hate to good ones, but it is the more basic of the two). Plus I love when Charli has a girl group moment, it really ups the replayability of the song for me. Also why is no one talking about how much it slays lyrically? The song kinda ripped my heart out but made me dance whilst. Charli serves us her usual avoidant attached self, but then we get Christine & Caroline to give us the flip side experience of the anxious attached partner (which HITS for me). It’s a bop with depth y’all!

this + the fact she can't pull off tongue in cheek / funny songs as well as Doja or even Katy. Coconuts is a parody of a pop song.

That label always confused me because I read early interviews from 2011 and even EARLIER interviews from 2008/2009 and she even talks about how she writes about the way things used to be during happy times. It’s just thoughtful — and I think that speaks volumes about the status quo’s conflation of reflection and sadness. She was absolutely right when she identified how the world loves to project onto you to try and reconcile what they lack.

and who is the "good", the "bad" and the "ugly"? Interesting, because the number 3 plays an important role in this album. Three women in the blue banisters video, three humans/pets on front and back cover, three singles dropped at the beginning ...
