making how i’m feeling now was such a good move for her whenever i think about covid and quarantine i think about that album and weirdly enough, very nostalgic and positive feelings. the whole process was just so amazing and the album sounds great and not dated at all

Yep, it's the mandatory skip. I never liked it and honestly the chorus is so rubbish lmao It was not my intention to bash the album just like that Portals is definitely a step in the right direction in all fronts since K-12/After School, but I honestly still feel a little hesitant about the project as a whole. Aside from so many intros and outros that sometimes do not add much to the tracks looking at you, Faerie Soirée and The Contortionist intros, and the vocal production in many songs, the album definitely has strong points and some career highlights imo (Tunnel Vision, The Contortionist, Evil, Pluto). I'm definitely happy we got the deluxe because in the end I love all three new songs and it was a nice addition - I can happily ditch skip Moon Cycle, Nymphology and Spider Web, keep the deluxe tracks and not fearing an extra short album. It's just it's taken me longer than other Melanie albums to fully enjoy even K-12, back in the day I bopped to most of that but now... I don't, but I have hopes that it will grow on me with time. And probably I still mourn for the loss of Needle & Thread, Fingers Crossed and the original Death, Garden and the original Void too. But that's on me because I was so avid for new material that I gave in to the leaks year and a half ago. Sorry for the essay

So we entered the “bashing the album era” Portals is good and a step up from K12, I like the alien/fairy/spirit persona she created for this era. The only thing that I dont like is the vocal mastering choices in some songs. At the end of the day she saved the era with the Deluxe songs and the masterpiece that is The Contortionist and Evil (the lowpass filter still a horrid choice tho)

as much as I like Ava and some of her songs im sorry but her label really pushed her to be “the next Gaga” with makeup, wigs, persona and songs to a certain extent and… she agreed and went for it im sorry. btw download Emotions and play her best song to this date

I'm sorry but Nymphology is the worst song on the album for me. I genuinely don't understand it. The lyrics are cringeworthy, the production is bland, and it overall sounds like it was made by and for edgy teenagers. It's just Fire Drills less interesting, more annoying little sister.

Not really understanding the Ava discourse tbh- charli would never sing something like so am I- the only slight similarity they share is that Ava’s whole career is basically Bebe rexha performing as a gaga tribute act and good ones could of potentially fitted on the fame although it’s more dark coded with some very faint 80s dark wave influence.

I don't think either of them cheated. He doesn't enjoy that level of celebrity and at the time Midnights was sent off everything was probably fine, but its complete success straight out of the gate followed by all the stuff with the tour probably made both of them realize they couldn't return to what they had like when things calmed down during the pandemic. I'm sure the ending was mutual and was on good terms. I'm mildly interested by the idea the entire album was written knowing what would happen and could be an attempt to stave off the inevitable, but I don't really believe it.

Without the interlude, there would be no Jon Batiste on the album at all. I'm also surprised that this great artist plays such a minor role on the album, he deserved more.
